Illegal charcoal? Just using my imagination here, but if everyone slashes down the jungle and burns the trees to make charcoal, the forests would dwindle pretty fast. Probably Congo govt. policy to outlaw unregistered jungle felling and charcoal manufacture.

would someone care to explain what exactly illegal charcoal is?! and how is it different from legal charcoal, if there is such a thing. i'll try googling charcoal law and see but... if I'm not too off the topic that is... :)

I posted yesterday, that there are 9 confirmed genocides going on with one being debated whether to call it a genocide or not. Either way, Africa is home to the large amount. I would propose, as drastic as it may seem, but carving the place up further from what the Colonists did as most of these are not country against country, but tribe against tribe which probably only live a few kilometers apart. Cut the place up to satisfy the groups and let them make peace with each other.

Probably the French. In the Indo-China War between Uncle Ho and France, the French Foreign Legion (who at that time had more than a few former SS members) used to dissaude frontal assaults by putting the heads of their opponents on stakes. Rather crude, but apparently effective (despite the French finally loosing the war).

Now, did they learn this beastly tactic from the French or from the Belgians?

Theres always genocide in Africa. Sad as it is to say it, the best thing that could happen to the continent, would be to reimpose colonialism. At least before the Europeans left, there were decent hospitals and roads. A halfway decent system of laws and justice, and the standard of living throughout Africa was rising. Now, most of these countries can barely feed themselves, and theres a civil war, and new dictators every few years all over the continent.
