I think we should require evidence that the GOP's proposed rules work. So I propose that mandatory IDs, no mail-in voting, no day-of registration, and no early voting be enacted — but only for registered Republicans. This would be a good way to see if it really doesn't reduce voting. I'm sure our GOP posters on this website agree.

I disagree and millions do as well, more reason why the Dems will lose the House next election cycle, even Pelosi is worried and with good reason.

Many people are worried that a lower number of GoP voters will win more elections solely because of GoP imposed voting restrictions. It is a valid fear of voter disenfranchisement.

6 million more people voted for Biden (and even Clinton won the popular vote) than Trump. Trump strategists played a good electoral college game in 2016, but he lost bigly and got outvoted in 2020.

Biden has a higher approval rating than Trump was able to achieve at anytime.

Dems should abandon the filibuster and pass a universal mail-in ballot for federal elections. That would curdle the GoP's noodles.

In a weaker position now that they have the WH, the Senate and Congress?

And soon they'll lose the House just like they did in 2011

So the Democrats are in a weaker position because you predict they will lose the house in the future?

Looks like you’ve painted yourself into a corner again.

Best start with the ‘what about the Dems/hmm../smh/lol/Rofl approach and get the thread closed down.

Lolz How does making it easier to vote by mail make it more difficult to vote? It doesn't, you've already admitted as much.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

That is right, Bass, it doesn't actually make it harder for folks to vote,

I disagree and millions do as well, more reason why the Dems will lose the House next election cycle, even Pelosi is worried and with good reason.

Right, exactly like how you predicted Trump would win in a landslide.

I also predicted that the Dems would lose the House in 2011

It doesn't,

That is right, Bass, it doesn't actually make it harder for folks to vote, which is exactly what you claimed. I appreciate the honesty, there.

And soon they'll lose the House just like they did in 2011

Right, exactly like how you predicted Trump would win in a landslide. Your crystal ball needs some cleaning there.

stand-up.

Why does auto-correct kick in the very instant I click Post?

the Democrats want to make it politically impossible for conservatives to vote by flooding the system with mail-in voting

How does making it more convenient to vote make it politically impossible for conservatives to vote?

which no other country does

Iceland, Sweden, New Zealand, Canada, Australia, to name but a few. In the UK, where some 22% of the electorate voted this way in the 2017 general election, it's called postal voting.

which is the rational and sensible thing to do.

Of course it's rational and sensible, that's why so many countries have it. Not every voter can make their way to a polling station on a particular day.

The Democrats are in a much weaker position that they now have a slim majority

In a weaker position now that they have the WH, the Senate and Congress? Yup, obviously very weak. That Trump winning again.

bass, give up your day job whatever it is, and go on the stage. You'd do great farce and-up.

Absolutely not, but yes, if you dare to question and go against the Liberal orthodoxy, you will be canceled.

lolol Saying something isn't true doesn't make it not true. The Republican lawyer said the quiet part out loud: “Because it puts us at a competitive disadvantage relative to Democrats,” the lawyer, Michael Carvin, responded. “Politics is a zero-sum game.”

That is their lawyer. I didn't make that up. Anyone reading can plainly see they dropped any pretense of insuring election "security." This is about stopping people from voting, because people don't support Republican policies.

Ahh, that's why liberals want nationwide mail-in voting.

Yes, it certainly is disgusting that Democrats want to make it easier for people to vote. :D

That's until Trump came and now the House is next.

lololol Trump won the popular vote a total of 0 times. Well done, good point.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

They absolutely do and want to continue to do so.

Absolutely not, but yes, if you dare to question and go against the Liberal orthodoxy, you will be canceled.

Because it puts them at a disadvantage, when more people can vote they lose.

Ahh, that's why liberals want nationwide mail-in voting.

Republicans haven't one the popular vote for nearly a quarter century.

That's until Trump came and now the House is next.

They absolutely don't and wouldn't restrict voting rights,

They absolutely do and want to continue to do so. Have a look at what a GOP lawyer said in front of the Supreme Court today:

So Justice Amy Coney Barrett had a simple question for the lawyer defending the GOP-backed laws: “What’s the interest of the Arizona RNC here in keeping, say, the out-of-precinct ballot disqualification rules on the books?”

“Because it puts us at a competitive disadvantage relative to Democrats,” the lawyer, Michael Carvin, responded. “Politics is a zero-sum game.”

Because it puts them at a disadvantage, when more people can vote they lose. Republicans haven't one the popular vote for nearly a quarter century.

Republicans know to gain more seats they need to further restrict voting rights.

They absolutely don't and wouldn't restrict voting rights, they don't need to, now on the other hand the Democrats want to make it politically impossible for conservatives to vote by flooding the system with mail-in voting which no other country does which is the rational and sensible thing to do.

Republicans are becoming increasingly anti-democratic.

Hardly, questioning election irregularities is the responsibility of every law-abiding American, in denying them that would be anti-democratic, imagine if the GOP would have blocked and thwarted the Democrat opponents of Bush, we know what would happen...

They remain a minority

For now.

trying to limit who can vote so they can gain control. To increase their support R's have accepted wack groups like Qanon and violent groups like the Oath Keepers, Proud Boys and dozens of other far right, white nationalists. These groups bring with them the fire power the Republican upper caste need to bring about a tyranny of the minority. That the R's are supported by 'foreign' state's keyboard armies shows how little regard the GOP have for the US.

All that is just laughable and total nonsense. The Democrats are in a much weaker position that they now have a slim majority and that margin is gradually getting smaller. Biden is in office, the GOP need 5 seats to retake the House, and then it's pretty much over for the Dems and they need to watch out for investigations, especially Harris and at this race and as of now, the GOP could easily pick up 4 seats without batting an eyelash. The Senate would be next and this is why you never want a slim majority because it's so easy to loose in the next election cycle. If the Dems truly cared about democracy they would stop this crazy silence and cancel culture, playing the race card and dividing us on the basis of race and identity politics.

That's what the Republican Party has turned into under Trump - the GOP now shares the same values as the CCP....

That's not fair.

The Chinese Communist Party looked after their citizens when Covid was peaking there.

The far right like to rant about their "faux wars", i.e., "War on Christmas", "War on Religion", etc. It's all about reveling in victimhood...

But the real war being waged today is the far-right "War in Democracy"...the most clear manifestation being seen on the assault at the Capitol on Jan 6th...

But other examples are these clear attempts at voter restriction, disempowerment, and denial of basic rights...

That's what the Republican Party has turned into under Trump - the GOP now shares the same values as the CCP....

The state Republicans are trying to restrict absentee and drastically cut back early voting. At the state level, they will probably be successful, unfortunately. It passed the state house. The bill also restricts the locations and times when dropping off an absentee ballot is allowed. Now, they can be outside, available 24/7 after early voting begins with video surveillance. The law would place them inside early voting locations and only available while early in-person voting staff is present. That's 8am-5pm weekdays under the new law.

The are trying to remove the SoS role as the election board chair.

They are making a flawed system much worse if the state senate passes this. Our idiot Governor will probably sign it. It s clearly a partisan last attempt to stay relevant for 1 more election, before we've had enough.

Let’s be clear, there is no evidence of wide-spread or even small-scale voter fraud. Zip, zero, zilch. None.

This is a solution in need of a problem.

This is an attempt by red states to suppress minority voting because when minorities vote en-mass, Republicans lose. They lose at the presidential level and at the Senate level.

In an era of increasing diversity, the GOP has made itself radioactive with minorities and whites who strive for equal rights. It could change with the times. Instead it seeks a new Jim Crowe era in order to keep its xenophobic base satisfied.

That is all this effort is.

RNC attorney (Michael Corvin told the S.Ct. that the reason for the restrictions was to help Republicans win elections.

Fair elections put them at a competitive disadvantage.

No mention of the gerrymandered voting districts.

No mention of moving voting day from Tuesday to a move convenient day.

No mention mandatory opening and closing times for voting sites.

No mention of a mandatory number of voting booths per resident per district. (Look at the photo above)

And there are many move simple reforms that can make voting easier and more secure as it is in almost every other country than the U.S.

These reforms have been introduced by one side of politics to strenghten there position, not to truly reform and democratize the voting system.
