This guy was a vindictive hack who used media to do as much harm as good. He was in no way more honest or sincere than Fox or CNN. He was a self agrandizing showman yearning for the spotlight at the expense of others.

@WilliB, "vindictive smearing" of Breitbart

But that's all he was known for. Look at the way he eulogized Kennedy--just one of many examples of low blows when targeting his opponents. The tough language was part of the "Punk Rock Conservative Blogger" shtick.

We would be doing a disservice to his legacy if we didn't smear him heartily at this moment. Smear away, folks--it's what Breitbart would have wanted, and just about all he was good at.

I have no doubt the blogosphere will quickly find a replacement for Breitbart who is equally, if not more, deceptive and obnoxious.

WilliB. It is hardly smearing someone who falsely condemned people and made a career of doing harm to others for not sharing his opinion. I am sad to hear the death of any person. But death does not overshadow our actions in life. A harmful person, unrepentent, is still harmful.

or on cocaine, which would also explain his sense of grandiosity. many pundits use our emotions to supply their drug habits. look at rush.

"we are all Breitbart now."

Speak for yourself. I am most certainly 100% not Brietbart, nor in any danger of becoming in any way infected by this thinking.

AiserX. really? Anti-semitism? Based on what? Haven't read a single critique of this guy that could in any way be interpreted that way. Give it a rest.

The guy was inflamitory and opinionated in life, you really expect that to just disappear because he died? I am sorry to hear that anyone has died. And sorry for the man's family. But his legacy is what it is and for a lot of us it was a legacy of hate and muck raking. Plain and simple.

He had a talent for digging up stuff. At the very least he was entertaining. Best wishes to his wife and children.

Anyone else remember the person with the alias BreitbartVictorious? Sorry about your hero, bro. There's always Lieberman2012 to fall back on.

"Orson Bean"--The son of Orson Welles and Mr. Bean?

I don't know Andrew Wiener. I just don't like this kind of journalism.

He wasn't politically correct had the gall to speak his real mind in public and had excellent taste in the people that he chose to drive insane. May you rest in peace Mr. Breitbart.

Maybe karma got 'im.......... Or just American fat food........ Regardless, R.I.P.

To morons, maybe...to morons.

Care to elaborate on that or are you alright just going around insulting people without being able to back it up? At least Breitbart could support inflammatory claims with some semblance of evidence, you just insulted my intelligence out of the blue based on my opinion.

I've seen people he has been in truely vitrolic arguements mourn his loss because, despite their heated arguements, they recognized his contributions to the public debate. Many didn't agree with his methods, I've posted on my unease with them before, but he chaged the dynamic of the news by playing a role in the creation of online news blogging tools such as the Huffington Post and the Drudge Report and by encouraging people across the political spectrum to become citizen journalists and to tell the stories they feel have been ignored by the media.

But you, you know, I'm just a moron that looks at a persons entire career of news media contributions instead of having a knee jerk reaction about how much of a jerk he could be.

tkoind,

" He was a self agrandizing showman yearning for the spotlight at the expense of others."

Isn't that the hallmark of most journalists?

TheQ,

"At least Breitbart could support inflammatory claims with some semblance of evidence"

The" some semblance" part is the lack of quality journalism. Cheap sensationalism is easy. Look at the old turd rupert murdoch.

I don't really have an opinion on the fellow. 43 is young to die for anyone though. Some of the comments are indeed a tad harsh.

Breitbart's fame was built on destroying others, he was an ugly sore on the world without any redeeming features. I only hope that he was able to forgive himself at the last.

What a touching epitaph.

Not quite what I'd call a man with integrity. Funny how he only really hit his stride after Obama got elected, but his muck-raking did no good, however. In a few more months President Obama will be easily elected for another 4 years, and it being his second term with no re-election to worry about, he's going to really bring the United States kicking and screaming into the 21st century with some good ol' socialist programs to really make the Brietbarts of the US furious!

I was never a big fan of his reporting. I mostly focus on his impact on internet news media sites. He helped launch a number of sites on both sides of the political spectrum and really got the ball rolling on the idea of citizen journalists using media tools like youtube to get the word out on overlooked stories.

TheQuestion Your posts are the evidence.

RIP. This guy added much needed honesty to the media phoniness upheld by FOX and CNN. Sad way to go, in an instant.

tokind2;

that sounds awfully vindictive smearing someone who died only because had a different political view from yours.

Many people credit Arianna Huffinton for "creating" the Huffington post, but in reality Breitart created it. He was a genius at exposing corruption on all sides and pointing out hypocrisy on the left. His Drudge Report is a solid alternative news source to the Main Stream Media and its B.S. Drudge + Zero Hedge is a must for anyone whom does not buy into state propaganda. Although it is ironic reading the liberal comments here and their hateful messages. Anti-Semetism might have to be addressed amongst these liberal bigots =).

Heh, sounds like someone's still upset over Breibart outing Andrew Wiener.

AB exposed government corruption and MSM bias. He will be missed, but will never forgotten.

He must have been on Obama's enemies list.
