The UN and Climate change activists are talking about how to curb CO2 but they are not doing 1,2 3 order to improve the world climate. First the world needs to stop deforestation. Without stopping deforestation, any attempt to curb CO2 and stop the global warming will be failed. We need to rehabilitate the forest which were deforested in the past.

I don't buy human extinction theory from extinction rebelian. Human will survie whatever the world condition was. The time when human and animals will extinct from the earth was the earth destroyed itself or destroyed by some unexplained force from outside.

P. Smith

Democrats are irrelevant to why huge subsidies for oil companies are good, but bad for safe renewable energy.

Do you have a reference for where huge subsidies are given to oil companies? If "safe renewable energy", whatever that is, is economically viable I am all for it. (Not holding my breath for any proof though.)

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

If you're not afraid, then answer the question: why are government subsidies for dangerous oil companies good, but for safe renewables bad?

It can't be because you believe that all state aid is bad, because if you did, you'd support removing state subsidies for oil companies.

It can't be because you believe in long term sustainability, because if you did, you'd support government investment in renewable energy.

So what is it?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Not at all afraid, I just think the Democrats are nuts if they think we will be off fossil fuel in 4-8 years. Not for a veeeeery long time.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Fossil fuels are unsustainable now. Why are you afraid to answer the question of why you're in favor of state aid for something destructive but against it for something safe? If your answer is, "as a right-wing ideologue, I don't believe in climate change, and I think renewables will make the world better for no reason", I will accept it. It's a bad answer, but I will accept it.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Is this a joke? Fossil fuels are unsustainable

Not for the next 20 or 30 years so we have a lot of time to come up with better fuel alternatives and until then, cars will still be here as well as motorcycles, boats and planes, now if the Dems want to kill thousands of jobs, go for it and put their party out of commission.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

It's not about being in favor or not, it's about long term sustainability.

Is this a joke? Fossil fuels are unsustainable and extremely damaging to the environment. Only renewable energy can deliver a sustainable future. Yet you want to cripple safe, efficient energy and prop up destructive, poisonous energy.

We have cars and there is no way you can replace 120 million cars within the next 20-30 years at the very minimum.

This is the problem with the right wing. You guys have no ambition and no imagination.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Why are you in favor of destructive oil companies getting government handouts,

It's not about being in favor or not, it's about long term sustainability. We have cars and there is no way you can replace 120 million cars within the next 20-30 years at the very minimum.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

As we all need to drive as it is an necessity, not entirely sure.

Why are you in favor of destructive oil companies getting government handouts, but not renewable energy companies which we actually need?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

This isn't true. Renewble power is effective and sustainable. Nuclear power is efficient, too,

Sorry, for cars there is nothing. There are no cars that can drive over 300 miles on a single charge that is under $30K

but it is too late now to start building reactors. We should have been building them 40 years ago.

We could, but we didn't and complaining about it won't stop the use of fossil fuel consumption.

Do you think government subsidies for the fossil fuel industry should but eliminated?

As we all need to drive as it is an necessity, not entirely sure.

It is obvious that some political leaders, notably the powerful ones, are extremely selfish. Not that they are taking care of their people, but on consolidating their own power over the people. How to expect them to be cooperative on matter of real urgency that would counter their own interests?

Moreover, they have very little knowledge of the climate change threat, refuse to acknowledge whatever highly likely consequential disasters there may be in the near future. If UN can't do anything to bring the blur leaders to their senses, who can?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

And will continue because at the moment there is nothing that is better sustainable, longer lasting than fossil fuel at the moment and nothing will replace it for at the very minimum for another 40 years realistically.

In time, but it should always be done and funded through the private sector.

Why, when the fossil fuel industry has been eating government subsidies to stay profitable for decades? Do you think government subsidies for the fossil fuel industry should but eliminated?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

A 'green' future looks pretty unrealistic given China, the US and the Russian Federation, the three states having greatest power, are run by fossils running fossil economies.

And will continue because at the moment there is nothing that is better sustainable, longer lasting than fossil fuel at the moment and nothing will replace it for at the very minimum for another 40 years realistically.

Trump's in the owe of big oil (among other bigs) and Russia's economy is dependent on sales of oil, gas and coal. China needs to keep burning oil, gas and coal in its quest to become the globe's dominant empire.

Not just them, all modern nations, whether they get their renewable energy from us or Russia, Saudis, Iranians etc.

Wars for control of gas, oil and their shipment are necessary for the fossils to maintain their wealth and control; until those fossils are replaced it could well be the rest of us are in fact doomed.

Replace the fossils.

In time, but it should always be done and funded through the private sector.

you want to start a movement, you first dude.

The actions of individuals will not work. Climate change is an industrial problem. Just 100 companies are responsible for 70% of all global emissions.

We need bigger and better solutions than "why don't YOU try cycling???"

4 ( +5 / -1 )

These leaders like to talk, but I wonder if they are willing to do the walk

I wonder how much pollution per day he generates to keep up with his standard of living.

I wonder how many private flights he takes.

I wonder if he is willing to give up 25% of his income to help subsidize said renewable energy.

These guys always lay out plans with the assumption that someone else pays. The buck just gets passed around and that is why these things never gain momentum.

you want to start a movement, you first dude.

World powers must pull together and retool their economies for a green future or humanity is "doomed"
