[sigh.] Like the suicide bombers in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Somalia these guys just dont know when to quit. Islam is beginning to trouble me a little. Don"t they understand Barack doesn't need this sh_t? How are we progressives going to overhaul America as we know it if these stupid 'freedom fighters' (I cant believe I actually thought that was a good line when Michael Moore first used it) continue to be such a distraction. Don't they understand that if OUR party can have 8 years control of America 'terror' wont be necessary???

Peace gone with Saddam, this region is destabilized (permanently) in the name of Democracy, freedom of Speech...!

Its a bummer, isnt it? The whole coordinated bombing thing has spread to Pakistan, Afghanistan, the border region of Iran, even Somalia and North Africa.

I teach a few Iraqi guys (only arrived in the country 10 weeks ago) and, based on what they've told me, the Iraqi people as more than sick of this as well. It is a very small minority of crazies responsible for this and most Iraqi people just want to rebuild their country and leave all this violence behind them. It has the potential to be a very civilised country if just given half the chance.

So let's get this right. The Sunnis, (purest and superior form of original Islam) who were in control of Iraq when Saddam was around, now feel marginalized by the Shiites (secondary sect of Islam started by Mohammed's cousin/nephew Ali) who have taken control of Iraq's new Parliament. The Shiites feel relatively grateful to the coalition for upholding their rights, and fairly eager to take part in the political process.

The Sunnis, who sulked and pulled out for a while, grew alarmed, formed some kind of alliance with Al Q'aida, and now may be (in)directly responsible for bombing and undermining the new government.

Remember the Sunnis control Saudi Arabia and surrounding countries, (but not Iran) and remember that Bin Laden is a Sunni.

How's this so far?

Looks like Obama`s Iraq policy is one big failurer, just like the man himself.

Massive coordinated attacks are possible whilst he makes our military hide in their bases. The Iraqi ar my are either inept or secretly on the side of the bad guys.

Civil war beckons as the US shows weakness in this important battle for liberation. Obama, how many more deaths can you be responsible for?

Obama intends to 'finish the job' in Afghanistan.

Does he believe the job is 'finished' in Iraq?

Coming from the new voice of the "blame America first" crowd.

The courgette eating, champagne quaffing Liberal elite try to make traditional Conservatives look stupid, but they look like fools!

This escalation in violence is due to Obama and his cut and run policies. The Saddam followers are emboldened and have joined Bin Ladens mob to wreak terror and mayhem across Iraq, because they know they have a free reign with our military stuck in their bases.

The liberation is turning into another Vietnam due to dithering and lack of leadership by Obama and his advisers.

Conservatives appear to manage that well enough all on their own.

Does that mean we can leave now and in 25 years the place will attract tourism and industry? All without having more American dead and wounded?

The American people don't really care how many Iraqi people die. The majority of Americans just wants their soldiers to come home.

These people really like death.

The wackos won't succeed in toppling the elected Iraqi government.

Just a quick dispatch from the Dearborn Kabob House - - I'm withholding judgement on this one until more information is forthcoming. Two points that need to be made:

1) All religions have extremists. This could happen in any country.

2) With its infrastructure in such bad repair for all we know these simultaneous explosions were caused by leaky gas pipes - probably foisted on the Iraqi people by Halliburton.

Nice to hear about the splended success of Western intervention in Irak.

Prof Juan Cole:

" 1) All religions have extremists. This could happen in any country. "

Yes, they do. But Christian extremists can go to a monestary, and Buddhist extremist to meditate in a cave.

What all religions do NOT have are jihadists who think they go to paradise and get virgins for going a jihad.

One would expect a professor to know that.

That was the campaign rethoric. But of course campaign rethoric is only meant to, well, win a campaign.
