US bring all forces home. The invasion of Afghanistan was a mistake. Tens of thousands of lives have been lost, and to what end? The corporate pursuit of claims on another nation's resources while claiming to be defending the world against religious extremism. Russia stop supplying arms to the Taliban. As horrible as it may be, as long as the fighting can be contained within Afghanistan's borders, let the Afghani people determine their own future without interference from the US, Russia and China.

Somewhere around 1979 the Russians invaded and conquered Afghanistan. After 9 years of rather ruthlessly trying to hold on to it, they picked up their marbles and left. Ditto previous efforts by the British (twice), Mongols, Sikhs, and others. Some lasted a few years longer than the Russians. Now, after 15 years, we are in about the same place. Is their a lesson here?

There is nothing there worth anything militarily, and any resources they have we can buy without much issue on the market.

As long as the USA is there, a massive failure. The right thing to do is get the hell out and let the chips fall where they may. The Taliban will keep ISIS out of the country, just like Saddam kept control of Iraq before Bush screwed that up as well and created ISIS.

Leave

Oh wow. I bet the Afghanis are giddy with expectation.

Golf courses. What Afghanistan needs is more golf courses. And maybe a few casinos.

Mujahideen forces fought against the Soviet invaders. Trained and funded by the CIA; these guerillas included many who would go on to wage war against the West. Lots of different nationalities. Including a Saudi Arabian - Osama Bin Laden.

long-running Afghan war launched by then-President George W Bush after the Sep. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States,

Despite the fact that the terrorists were mainly from Saudi Arabia - the world's number one state sponsor of terrorism - this endless war in Afghanistan began. Why was the war not launched against Saudi? Was it because of the huge monetary ties between the US and Saudi? Was it because of oil and gas pipelines to be run through Afghanistan?

White House national security adviser H.R. McMaster and other advisers favored accepting Nicholson's request for some 4,000 additional U.S. forces.

McMaster currently coming under sustained fire from Breitbart. What a surprise. To be fair; that er, media outlet is a head wrecker. White Nationalist magnet and pro-Zionist at the same time. An ugly combination. Bannon will be doing all he can to continue to discredit his nemesis and he will use the ongoing tragedies of Afghanistan and Israel to do so.

rumsfield wanted a pipeline so america illegally invaded Afghanistan. killed many, smashed the infrastructure and killed american soldiers. then america found rare metals! i don't agree about religion, but at the time, the taliban took control and stopped the plight of heroin addiction, and opium exports. peace prevailed. I've never been there, but it seems like the place had a chance.

he will send contractors. hallibutter? whats that name again?

Just get the hell out of there already, enough with this American Imperium bs!

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Expect little substance, a bunch of catch phrases (Yhuge, you will get tired of winning, fake news, bad hombres) directed only at his base, and blame for Obama, the current general on the ground, senate, and anyone not a Trump.

Oh, and prime time is another opportunity for his inadequacy to shine through.

Trump will be visiting semi-hostile territory on Tuesday in Arizona, the land of anti-Trump Senators Flake and McCain. He's holding a bigly huge rally in Phoenix where he is expected to pardon the lead birther Joe Arpaio.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

A Craigslist ad about the Phoenix event is asking for actors to get paid to play Trump supporters. Odd times.

We can expect another insane speech from Trump on Monday? When will it end? Be afraid, be very afraid.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

It's a sign of how toxic Trump has become when you see that Arizona governor Ducey, a fellow Republican, is planning to be out of the country--in Mexico of all improbable places--during Trump's visit to his state.

Trump tweet: "We will re-name it Avghanistan. A beautiful name, and it puts America first."

Incoming chief of staff Kelly was the one who told Bannon it was time to scram. If Kelly and other top advisors (three NY real estate moguls also told Trump to axe Bannon) agreed that Bannon was undermining Trump, then who should Bannon go after if he was the main problem as most of the Trump team believed?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

He's going to go after every single politician as hard as he can and call them out who opposes the president or undermines him

Trump's bulldog, eh? Savage those who dare oppose the stupidity coming out of the circus/swamp/potty.

As a non-partisan, you on principle should opposed to such behaviour.

Including, by all accounts, Trump's own daughter, son-in-law, the other "West Wing Democrats" and a whole bunch of Republicans. You would think anyone could see that wasn't especially smart.

But yeah, Afghanistan is a lost cause we should leave...

Right, fair enough, but then...

or at the very minimum leave a small contingency force behind.

"At the very minimum" kind of suggests you would be in favour of having more than a small contingency force there. What about "at the very most?"I think everyone is prone to typos from time to time, but if I were writing this kind of stuff all the time I'd be a bit concerned about myself.

Oh, you think so? I really don't agree.

Trump's tested tactic — Distract, Deceive and Deny.

This is just another attempt to distract from his mishandling of Charlottesville just like the Russian investigation, and just like the Obamacare repeal. Every time he fails, he always makes some quick announcement to distract then he tops it off with a rally in some place where won the most votes talking about the good ole days during the election. At those rallies, he only talks about how bad he beat Hillary, and she is corrupt and how unfair everyone is treating him. During his pity-party, he doesn't talk about his presidency because he hasn't accomplished anything. He tries to take credit for the economy which all the financial experts have mentioned that the success of the economy is entirely due to measures put into place by the previous administration (Obama). He is trying to run the country like a reality TV show.

A Craigslist ad about the Phoenix event is asking for actors to get paid to play Trump supporters. Odd times.

A family member in the States facebooked a screenshot of the advertisement. Another sad pity-party where the audience doesn't ask him any real questions like at a press conference being held for him, so he can lie without being questioned by anyone. His Charlottesville response like most of his press conferences was a sad joke. That is why he had to do it 3 times.

LOL! You have won the internet today!

Anyone can post a craigslist ad.

@SuperLib

Anyone can post a craigslist ad.

This is true, but considering who the rally is for, you never know. I want to remind everyone that Trump is a competent crook but an incompetent politician.

Also, there is precedence.

For the defeating on Taliban and other Islamic extremist Al Qaeda and ISIS in Afghanistan is not depending on the US and alliance and it was depending and responsibility of Afghan men and Afghan military and their Government.

Many Afghan men have left their country and many are trying to leave their country for to seek asylum and for better life in Europe, US, UK, Canada and Australia instead of fighting for their country. The war with the Taliban, Al Qaeda and ISIS in Afghanistan will never win because corrupt Government, complicated tribal tradition and lack of patriotism in Afghanistan.

I laughed back in 2001 when I learned about the Bush Rumsfeld plan. The "war" has turned into the quagmire I accurately predicted.

The al-Qaeda were driven out. Mission accomplished. Oh, wait, now it's nation building time. Oh, wait, now we have to fight the Taliban. The Bush "strategy" created an endless mess.

Afghanistan can never be influenced by any single power, a fact I learned way back when after reading a couple of good books. I wish people in the White House had read the same books.

Right, so what have we got? From www.telegraph.co.uk:

Donald Trump was due to announce a new strategy on Monday evening for how to tackle the war in Afghanistan, which is America's longest military conflict.

Several White House officials said the president would deploy up to 4,000 additional troops to the country to combat a resurgent Taliban and the growing number of Islamic State fighters in the country.

There were reports last night that the US was putting pressure on Britain and other Nato allies to join America in increasing troop numbers in Afghanistan.

Still think Afghanistan is a lost cause that America should only keep a small contingency force in? Trump evidently doesn't. So who's wrong?

> Of course not, you're probably in denial. But getting back to that point about Afghanistan, the lost cause you think America should get out of...

Get out, yes! Keep a few hundred residual forces there, most definitely.

Still think Afghanistan is a lost cause that America should only keep a small contingency force in?

Yup.

Trump evidently doesn't. So who's wrong.

He listened to his generals. You guys should be happy, you guys kept saying he doesn't listen to anyone and now all of a sudden he listens and you all are still unhappy. There is no pleasing the left. Smh.
