Because the media is very selective in what they cover. There are lots of things going on in the world, but only a few places get attention from the legacy corporate "mainstream" media.

What a paradoxical earth ! While huge floods and wild fires are causing great harm to many people in a number of countries all over the globe, the ravaging drought is devastating central Asia.

Yawn, hardly the only place suffering from drought. The drought on the Colorado River Basin has the potential to affect the water supplies for 40 million people vs a Kazakh population of about 18.7 million. Not to mention most of the winter produce in North America is irrigated with water from the Colorado River. If you enjoy a salad in the winter in North America the greens came from either the Imperial Valley or the valley outside Yuma. But drought elsewhere gets most of the press even as the impact of drought on the lower Colorado River basin is potentially far greater. And, obtw, if the water level behind Hoover Dam gets much lower the powerhouse will have to stop producing, cutting a major source of electricity for the city of Los Angeles. That is a big deal.

Look at their drought-hit neighbor Kazakhstan.
