It seems Tonga by allowing this ship to dock is choosing to go with the Australian COVID policy of letting, even encouraging some would say, the virus to spread through the population
The Avenger
Seems now someone will have to get aid to the ship.

Umm, no. Did you even read the article?

What a dilemma for Tonga. Let's hope that the no contact delivery works, and that parking all the supplies for 3 days is enough to inactivate any virus.
WilliB
I would think the Tongans prefer to live with the virus rather than dying without it. Ridiculous lack of perspective in articles like this.

So 29 people with COVID on a 600 person ship with 100% vaccination rate?

So you didn't read the article. OK. The Tongans won't get covid. Try reading next time.

But actually, your thoughts about the Tongans are wrong. Not sure how you arrived at that conclusion. They would rather be virus free.

Yes I agree too and I can understand how that takes priority over the fear of the virus and this this is worth following the Australian policy of letting, some would say encouraging, the virus to spread to everybody

Yes well pointed out - another vaccination "success" story that no one seems to take notice of

It appears some people are trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill !
Its difficult to say your virus free if you dont have any symptoms.
Anyway i assume Tonga is very appreciative of the help.
And what about the Japanese aid thats on its way or the water that was previously delivered via C-130 to Tonga ? Was that delivery virus free?
Desert Tortoise
It is. 29 people out of 600 is 4.8% That means the vaccine has protected 95.2% of the crew. No one has ever claimed any vaccine is 100% effective. 95% effective is very good.

Covid-19 is a lot worse than a simple runny nose. I have some first hand experience. Do not try to dismiss how severe it can be for many who contract it.

Depends on the variant. Omicron, which is taking over the world now, is extremely mild. I just had it, and had zero symptoms. Hospitalization in Omicron areas have completely de-coupled from infections. Look at the data.

They would rather be virus free than ALIVE? Seriously, that is what you think of them?

@WilliB
Clearly the Tongan's, like everyone else would rather be virus free AND alive. Any other description is false.

I just had it and it wasn't zero symptoms. My wife too. We are still coughing all the time to the point of being worn out from it and it caused me to loose my voice so speak for yourself.

trying to contain a virus is like trying to hold back the tide.

Has worked against the Ebola virus a number of times and just as well.
