COVID, Philip's no-fuss attitude mean simpler funeral plan

Some aspects of life should pause, It’s appropriate for anyone passing, to show respect to those left behind.

Travelers from the U.S. must produce a negative COVID-19 test before they get on the plane and must self-isolate for 10 days upon arrival, but that quarantine can end early if a test after five days comes back negative. 

What are the odds, a royal won't get special treatment? Even one who supposedly does not want the benefits of being a part of that family...

As far as I can tell after tuning in a couple of times, BBC world is doing pretty much wall-to-wall coverage of this.

I don’t see the need for it. It’s not an election or an ongoing crisis. He’s from a royal background, he was in the navy, he married a princess who became queen, had kids with her, lived to a very advanced age and will have a lower key funeral than is normal for the royals.

I had to turn off BBC World after twenty minutes last night because the coverage was very cloying. I never realised there were so many "royal historians", "royal reporters", or "royal biographers" available at short notice, all singing from the same hymn sheet.

The Royal Family are not completely insensitive to opposition, and whatever form the funeral takes will have one eye on not stirring up trouble. That's out of PR purposes for themselves, not any consideration for the British public or the pandemic.

Finally, I would like to remind anyone who finds "gaffes" involving casual racism funny, this is a Japan-centric website and Prince Philip's famous comment about the Chinese is very often directed to Japanese people as well. Like my wife and children. There are far better things to be proud of if you are British.

Yep. I usually defend the BBC as one of the better outlets for news.

However, they do tend to crank it up a bit too high in these cases.

Not just the BBC, ITV also had wall to wall Philip yesterday. Channels 4 and 5 also had all day mourning, but did switch to other programmes in the evening. I think last night’s episode of Gogglebox on C4 will have record viewing figures.

Overseas visitors, including Harry would be impossible to meet the covid protocols by the funeral next Saturday. Again, I would hope no one will be excused those.

No, he can. Unless you come from a Red List country you can end your 10 day quarantine early by paying for a “test to release” PCR test on day 5.

According to reports Harry is trying to travel on a diplomats passport to avoid all restrictions.

Where has this been reported? As he is not an accredited diplomat I fail to see how he has a diplomatic passport. I small a smear story.
