I am so glad I don't live in such a sick authoritarian place!

California has that law before pandemic, after pandemic just add covid vaccination to existing list.

Is it necessary ?

Happy Day
When will the politicization of COVID end?
Arizona did a study on masks in schools. Schools requiring masks had a student infection rate of 16 in 100,000. Schools not requiring masks had an infection rate of 35 in 100,000. Keeping in mind this is not Japan, forced use of masks provides essentially no health benefit, but huge socialogical and psychological damage.
California's forced vaccination requirement of kids will be many times more damaging.

Didn't we just talk a few days ago about forcing you to take the vaccine?
Here you go...
To make it mandatory for kids to take this NEW vaccine is completely crazy.
I understand that for mumps, ... and other things, because they are already long time implemented in the society and we have experience with long term side effects.
But not with the new Covid vaccine.
If parents refuse that their kid take the vaccine, is the kid not allowed to go to school???
Thanks God I am not living in California.

Excellent law.
Also nice to see 84% had at least one shot. But, we’re the illegal workers included in the polls?

You don't understand anything actually so ..

good. should keep the repubs away

Excellent news !

Wonderful.
Unlike Florida and Texas, California actually cares for it’s children!

As soon as there is an approved vaccine for our 7yo boy he will be vaccinated regardless of any state mandate. it is the responsible thing to do.
ulysses
I suggest moving to N.Korea, they apparently don’t have COVID there, so no need for vaccines!
Desert Tortoise
The mandate will not take effect until the FDA has given full approval, not emergency approval, for the necessary vaccines. Our kid has to have a laundry list of vaccines to attend school. Once the drug manufacturers have done all the testing necessary for a normal full approval by the FDA there is no reason to not vaccinate.

@Monty, please read the majority opinion in an old US Supreme Court case Jacobson v Massachusetts. It was way back in 1905 but the court ruled that states can require all residents to be vaccinated against a disease causing an epidemic. This was in 1905 and involved a smallpox epidemic. The majority opinion is a very good civics lesson.

vaccinations in schools has a long tradition, it's only because of Repubs that they are suddenly an issue
Desert Tortoise
No, I think you have it backwards. China is in fact prohibiting unvaccinated people from using any public space including schools. In fact in some parts of China local officials are physically forcing people to be vaccinated.
virusrex
The problem is that your argument got completely falsified when you accepted you are perfectly fine with enforcing changes of conduct for many other things, and that your only problem is that people should accept the safety of vaccines better (which still means they can be enforced).
Having double standards, when you accept forcing people to do certain things because it has been proved by science that their actions increase risk for other people, but then you don't accept doing the same for other things (even when the risks for others are also proved by science) makes it obvious your rejection is not based on logic or reason, just on emotional personal feelings, which are irrelevant.
Your argument about "long time side effects" have no importance either, COVID has much more long term or even permanent effects right now and the list keeps growing every week or so with something new, there is no realistic possibility any of the vaccines will ever be comparable in risk to not vaccinating. Increasing the risks for others of these known and unknown long term health problems just because you want to imagine the vaccine will magically become dangerous in the future is what is "completely crazy"
ulysses
Dobreyo.
Considering this is totally false information I wonder where it came from.
Schools in most developed countries insist on vaccinations. Though There are quite a few underdeveloped countries like Russia where it’s not a requirement !!!
Desert Tortoise
In any event, unvaccinated people are not particularly well received but the great majority of Californians. The recent attempt to recall the Governor of California boiled down to a referendum on vaccination requirements and other Covid rules with the leading opponent promising to end all covid related requirements upon election. The voters chose by an overwhelming majority to keep the Governor we have. Very few in California wish to emulate Florida, Texas, Alabamy, Mississippi or Louisiana. They have nothing to recommend.

Add to the list of proven safe and effective vaccines required to attend public schools one more proven safe and effective vaccine.
Funny how this wasn’t a big deal with smallpox vaccine, or polio, or measles, or...
Don't like it? Home school your kids
takeda.shingen.1991@gmail.com
They also keep Muslims and other minority groups in forced labor camps. I don't particularly care what China thinks about human rights.

California allows for private and home schooling options. Students and parents who don’t wish to vaccinate have options outside the public schooling system and are urged to use those options. Nothing wrong or unfair here.

Don't be anti-vax, just be pro-choice, throw it back on them!

A glimpse of the future education/employment/ social prospects for those who deny basic science and objective truth in a pandemic.

It'd be a real shame if that were the only thing you were sick. mmmm

@virusrex
Let me repeat your own words from some of your past posts;
Nobody, even scientists, have a time machine and can not see in the future.
And I agree with you.
Nobody on this planet can see the future! Nobody!
So, how can you agree for a NEW vaccine to make it mandatory, if you can not see the long term side effects for the future?
You are commenting against your own words!
Or do you have a secret time machine, which we don't know about?
To recommend to take this vaccine, keep it volunteer, let the people decide by their own, and especially let the parents decide for their kids, not the government, to take a NEW vaccine, this is absolutely OK for me.
And after a few years monitoring this vaccine, and the experience from these few years monitoring shows us that there are no serious long term side effects, then I would also agree to make it mandatory.
And one more;
We are discussing here about making a NEW vaccine mandotary for kids or adults, whith threating them not allow to go to school or to lose their jobs!
We are not discussing about smoking, or wearing clothes or anything else...
A NEW vaccine which is just a few months on the market, should not be mandotary, especially for kids, without a long term monitoring and investigating of the long term side effects.
That is my opion.

Cannot read the article because of a payment wall.
Other articles says China is encouraging vaccinating under 18, however they have quality issues with the vaccines so are going slow!!!
Monty
And one more thing @virusrex
I do not say that the covid vaccine will have long term side effects.
I really really hope, that this vaccine is safe and do NOT have any side effects for long term.
I mean, I took the vaccine, and of course I dont want to suffer any health problems in the future from taken this vaccine.
Nobody wants that!
But do we know it? No!
Because, to repeat your own words again, We have no time machine and can not see the future.
proxy
Waste of money and stress. The pneumococcal vaccine is only given to babies and people over the age of 65.
Although, healthy 12 year olds can certainly get and spread pneumonia they are at such low risk of a bad outcome that they are not given it. The same for children and COVID.
Desert Tortoise
Again, for the umpteenth time, the state is not going to require kids to be vaccinated until the FDA completes testing and grants a normal full approval, not an emergency approval but an approval through their normal process for vaccines. What that means is probably there will be no requirement before fall of 2022.
Desert Tortoise
Ever had pneumonia? Just asking.
virusrex
And that is completely irrelevant, seeing the future is not necessary to say it is clear (as in with scientifically proved certainty) that not vaccinating is more risky for anybody for whom the vaccine is indicated.
This makes your whole argument again irrelevant. There is no requirement to see the future to justify measures to avoid risk for others.
Once again, try to use your own (failed) arguments if someone is trying to justify smoking for hours in the same room as your kid. If this person says "nobody can see the future, nobody!! maybe in the future scientist will find out the smoke is better for your health!" would this make it ok? it is the same argument you are trying to use.
We are discussing about making things mandatory thanks to scientific justification making it valid. This include many things, you are of course desperately trying to ignore all those other things, because considering them, even for a second, makes obvious you yourself do not believe in your own argument.
Is something proved scientifically to increase risk for others? then it can be regulated to avoid it, it does not matter at all how long this have been proved so, the only important part is that it has been proved.
And again, long term studies are not necessary to compare the risk between vaccinating or not vaccinating, because against what are you going to compare those studies? imaginary long term studies of problems caused by COVID? the disease already has been proved to produce permanent problems, it is not necessary to prove vaccines are less risky than being uninfected, the need is to prove they are less risky than not vaccinating and likely getting the infection. Big news, vaccines were proved safer since almost a year by now.

Gruesome Newsom living up to his name. Spreading fear where ever he goes...
The Avenger
On pretty much every issue, California does X. The red states scream and cry about how terrible X is for a while. Then California pulls further ahead of them. Then the red states quietly do X.
The red states could just skip ahead like 25 years in their development overnight if they just copied everything California does.
bass4funk
If people are so adamant about you always have a choice. Leave California if you think Newsom is overstepping his constitutional authority (and he is) and find place where you don’t have to worry about big government attacking or disrespecting your 1st amendment rights either relocate or take your kids out and home school them.
Busby
Thank goodness for Blue State governors trying to keep their people safe with prudent, common-sense public health measures...
On the other hand, you have Red State governors who engage in nothing but theatrics, and send their residents in startling numbers to ICUs...
