COVID vaccines saved 20 mil lives in 1st year, scientists say

Think of how many more lives could have been saved had the anti-vax people not had conspiracy theorists in power in huge countries. In the US, probably 200K people died needlessly. Probably similar for Brazil.

Had those 2 leaders lead by example and actually been pro-vaccines, think of how many more people would have become vaccinated. There should have been PSAs and videos showing the ex-Prez getting vaccinated and working the vaccine lines. Plus, not pushing pseudo-science crap would have been nice too.

And had China and Russia not cared about saving face, other countries would get more effective vaccines.

Vaccines saving lives is very good indeed. People being mandated to take vaccines is very bad.

So the study is accurate and Trump saved millions of people during his administration?

or the study is fake and he didn’t save anyone?

He is nothing if not incompetent.

yet he personally saved millions of lives, if this study is accurate that is.

because his supporters are not a cult and can realize when he is wrong (which he is on this issue)

Plus we also know he HAS to say this, to prevent Dems from whining that he doesnt support the vaccines.

So instead he says take it, and nothing liberals can complain about.

Then you have to thrash about trying to blame him, with the facts showing it was not only developed during his time in office, but that he encouraged everyone to take it. So leaves you with nothing to complain about.

Difficult to not interpret this as, in fact, less than 40% immunized...unless one is in a hurry to criticize for whatever reason they can imagine and doesn't pay attention...where "reduction" and 40% occur together here is not clear...and it's likely that the milder forms have been tossed into this data pot which would be a MAJOR confounding factor in accurately interpreting the survival data versus cases vis-á-vis vaccines.

I think it's a valid point. He was talking about vaccination numbers. The article says more than 4.3 billion people were vaccinated by the end of 2021. It also implies that the 40% vaccination target coverage had not been met by the end of 2021.. But it seems that 40% target had been met.

Getting an updated shot in the fall seems obvious. 

If monkeypox keeps spreading, we may need a smallpox shot as well in the coming year.  

People who hand wring and fear vaccines should do their research and realize what a modern medical miracle vaccines have been, contributing greatly to improved health and longevity.  

They should also remember that we should look to credible virologists, epidemiologists, and infectious disease specialists for the best science on the immune system and vaccines, and not to friends, relatives, or nonsense spread on the internet.

We can head off a lot the miserable seasonal illnesses, including colds, flu and COVID this fall, with good masks (preferably N95). At a bare minimum, masks should be mandated and enforced in enclosed public spaces, like public transit, and for grocery stores and pharmacies which vulnerable people cannot avoid.

And not only a glitch in the data presented here, but the exclusion of the largest single national entity because of 'uncertainty' when we know that if 'uncertainty' is the issue, the greatest 'uncertainty' is what OUR health officials tell us, or DON'T tell us such as the 250,000 people a year dying of iatrogenic causes in America's industrialized healthcare system.

The report do not include China because their numbers are not considered reliable, also because their vaccination is low and with a vaccine of reduced efficacy, that has been replaced by lockdowns instead of something actually effective against Omicron.

One very important thing for scientific reports like this has been taken from computer science and that is "garbage in, garbage out" which means that if the authors include biased, unreliable data in their study their conclusions would become also biased and unreliable, so the only way to get proper results is not to include that unreliable data in the first place. In this case the actual number is impossible to know because of censorship from the CCP.

People can distrust medical recommendations for many causes, in the US because of the lack of quality of their medical "professionals" that frequently are scientifically illiterate for example, that would not make the people anti-science.

This label applies to people that systematically reject what science says, and instead give more reliance to personal opinion and irrational thinking. Even when it can be demonstrated as wrong.

Very interesting report that took a lot of work to be made, obviously nobody can say exactly how things would have been without the vaccines, but the authors make a very good job controlling for everything they could think off and to justify their assumptions, so the numbers they got are very likely to be correct.

Scientific advancement allowed for an unprecedent effort to result in safe and effective vaccines and for 15 to 20 million lives being protected thanks to them. Pandemics will keep happening (more often even thanks to human intrusion on wild animals territories and the climate change) so preparations should be done to repeat or improve these accomplishments for the next one.

These kind of news make everybody happy, except of course for the anti-science groups that will always fail to accept when something good happens because of scientific advancement and feel actually angry about being proved wrong about their predictions of useless and dangerous vaccines, for them more deaths would have been better because then they would have been right.

Just think, even more lives will be saved once babies and children start getting jabbed. If only the lockdowns and mandates were more strict, think of the lives saved.

Golly, the PhD experts were right! Vaccines are safe AND effective. They have saved millions of lives!

It's almost like expertise might actually mean something..... Go figure.
