The director of the American National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Anthony Fauci, went on TV Sunday morning and warned Americans that senior citizens and those with underlying medical conditions should absolutely avoid "..... large crowds, no long trips, above all, don't get on a cruise ship."

I will say this though China gave us about 2-3 weeks in warning. Abe didn’t act and wasted the time bought.

I’m reading that there are mutations and different strains of covid and that the ones in Italy and Iran are different from the ones in China.

The other thing I noticed yesterday when [Trump] was visiting the CDC - he's put on even more weight -

Which is more of threat for the job, heart trouble, cognitive decline, or obesity?

OK, so Japan's mistakes are being learnt from - that's a good start. Now we will see if the procedures taken by the Americans are any better - hopefully so, since that will show the way forward for dealing with such situations in future.

The current popularity of Cruise ships days are numbered...

Trump learning from Abe - not allowing sick people off the boat JUST so that domestic numbers of infected people don't go up.

Just what is your point? It only takes one person to start a cluster. The Lombardy outbreak started because an Italian met a friend who had previously visited China. You make it sound as if thousands of illegal Chinese immigrants in Italy are about to release viruses into the air. I hope you're not surprised at all the East Asians who have been physically assaulted in the west.

It started with China, and the most affected countries are those it does most trade and inter-migration with. There are 300,000 legal and illegal Chinese working in Italy, employed in fashion businesses whose brands had been acquired by Chinese businessmen (so most “Italian fashion” is now actually Chinese). Iran does 35% of its two-way trade with China, esp after the embargo was imposed on it. S Korea has tilted seriously to China after Beijing put pressure on it after the missile defense system it had put up to guard against N Korea. All these countries have several thousand cases each now. On March 4, China issued a commentary on its official news agency, Xinhua, saying that “the US owes China an apology (for rejecting Chinese tourists early on); the world owes China a thank-you (for closing off Wuhan to prevent further spread).” See

Why do they always give a worldwide figure when 90% of that figure comes from one country: China. It's this type of irresponsible journalism that is fueling the mass hysteria over a flu-like virus.

Because anyone can go on the internet and check out websites like Wikipedia to find out the breakdown by country. Right?

Guy in the middle, "I have everything under control".

Guy on the left thinking, "I think I will just go along my the joke."

The guy on the right, "He seems to be sweating more than usual.... Oh no!"

Well, it's good to see that someone other than the Great Orange Idiot is making these critical decisions...Trump didn't want it to dock because it would "increase our numbers" - he's so dense, he thinks the Corona virus is the same as the Nielsen ratings for The Apprentice...

Trump is looking more and more like the clown and moron he is, spouting outright lies and fabrications. He's making Pence look like a real leader.

The other thing I noticed yesterday when he was visiting the CDC - he's put on even more weight - he's starting to look like Chris Christie. He was obese to begin with but now with another 20-30 pounds, he's looking morbidly obese. I guess all that stress and desperation has him hitting the Big Macs more frequently...

We took a cruise to Hawaii on the Diamond Princess. It is a beautiful ship. However, under present conditions, we will not be cruising, or flying, or going to concerts or sports events. Maybe in a couple of years.

Because that's how many have the disease. Should they give a breakdown by every country?

Actually, if everyone is concerned about it, then it can slow the spread of the virus.

It is indicative of how quickly the disease spreads - yes the numbers are highest in China because that is where it started. By just how quickly it has spread in Italy - a developed 1st world country. If it can spread that quickly there, it can spread just as quickly elsewhere.

Italy may now have gone into shutdown, but that will not wipe out the disease and they can't stay on lockdown for ever.

It is really hard to give a forecast at the moment, but I think that we will be at a million by the end of the year.

I know two separate couples that were still holding on to tickets for the Diamond Princess for a June cruise. They weren't sure whether to cancel or not. One joked that they might even have the ship to themselves. This sealed the deal. Doesn't matter what the company promises by way of being sanitary and that there will be no repeats of the Diamond Princess, but there we go.
