The only reason Trump re-imposed the embargo is because lifting it was done under Obama. Great policy setting there. Obama did it = bad.

U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley stressed before the votes that "our reason for the embargo is and has always been Cuba's denial of freedom and the denial of the most basic human rights for the Cuban people."

Hypocrisy is high with one.

Especially in the light of Saudi Arabia thing this days...

werent a bunch of US embassy people disabled by sonic attacks with symptoms similar to traumatic brain injury? an actual attack, not just a page on Facebook that triggered someone.

but liberals don’t care about attacks like that. all you care about is poor Obama’s policy getting changed. Seems He only made it in the first place so his drug dealer rapper friend could vacation there. Hanging out watching baseball with a dictator, not good optics.

None of this has any basis in reality.

Except that he watched baseball with a dictator and approved special permission for his friends Jay Z and Beyoncé to vacation there. Don’t worry, the truth won’t hurt you just embrace it.

Only 2 countries? Where is Saudi when USA needs them?

Like universal health care ? Oh, wait... they have that !

The reason for the embargo is that Castro won over the other dictator that the US wanted there.

The US is not in position to lecture anyone on human rights.

This doesn't change the fact that this isn't the only reason Obama lifted the embargo. So, yeah, don't worry, the truth won't hurt you. Just embrace it.

Cuba's problems today are caused by the Cuban Govt. If they moved to a democracy that recognized private ownership, then investments in the country would skyrocket.

People forget that Cuba doesn't allow freedom of speech, or freedom of travel, the govt censors news and her people are greatly limited with govt handouts for staples like potatoes and rice. Protein is very hard to get. People trying to run little businesses are always under threat of being arrested. Not that a very simple life isn't a good life, but their lives are being limited by their govt.

Read that Cuba has the highest literacy rates in the world, which is something they should be very proud about. While Cuba does have "universal health care", it is nearly impossible to get any non-standard procedures.

Wonder how many Cubans read JT and can comment.

As if the U.N. matters. They condemn it, ok and?

Everyone knows the reasons for the embargo are a sham. Politicians keep it in place to win a small number of old voters. The rest of the GOP support it because they do as they are told, but I can't imagine they really care.

And nobody knows who's causing it because it happened in China too

But the United States failed to get support even from Western nations.

When ya treat friends as foes, ya lose your leverage to ask for friendly votes

Following the U.S. defeat, Haley told the General Assembly: "There are no winners here today, there are only losers."

She said the U.N. "lost the opportunity to speak on behalf of human rights,"

Did the US speak up on behalf of human rights in its summit with Dictator Kim?

Kim abuses people worse than Cuba, and yet it's brushed aside

Don't ask other countries to speak up for human rights when ya can't even speak it up with Kim

No comments from Cubans here? How could that be? Perhaps because they have extremely limited, expensive, internet and almost nobody has access there?

Speak to a Cuban expatriate to get a different view of the sanctions. I've met a few at conferences.

There are a few F/LOSS projects trying to make access to the wider internet more available to Cubans. They use email bouncers to get access to news stories from outside and to get free programs.

Attacks on Canadians and Americans working for their respective govts in Cuba speaks volumes. Cuba was probably used as a pawn by Russia, but it still happened on Cuban land.

The USA doesn't trade with NK or Cuba for a reason. Never forget with whom you are dealing. This applies to China, NK, Cuba, Russia, Venezuela, and lots of other countries.
