The airline blames its spotty record on a lack of parts and airplanes because of the U.S. trade embargo against the communist island.

OK I know things have improved in Cuba but has no one tried to lease with the US government over this issue? since these plains are flying all over the world, could they have not brought some parts back with them? either way its a sad day down in Cuba.

The plane was built in 1979 apparently. Coming up to 40 years old is pushing it a bit, especially if maintenance was an issue.
