I just think there's a better way to describe a transplant that doesn't involve the images that that phrase creates. I'm all for the beauty of saving a life but in a situation like this I think you need to choose your words carefully.

I guess my problem is with the word 'creepy' and your description. 'Sad' or 'tragic' fits better than creepy. Opinions do influence others. There is a serious lack of organ donors and some people wait years for organs. Some don't last the wait. This is a family's way of taking a horrible tragedy and using it to make two children's lives better. I salute them for this.

Whether you mean to or not, you are making this girl and her family's amazingly selfless gift something other than what it should be represented to be.

Whatever my reaction is or whatever I say should not and does not effect how others percieve the organ donation. Donations are alright, I'm mostly apathetic towards them. When I donate blood I'm not particularly happy about it, it's just fact that someone else can get better use out of it at this particular moment, same goes for organs. I'm not saying its monsterous or disgusting or immoral, merely that I have a less than enthusiastic reaction to the article. I'd say its thats a reasonable position.

While they mention the corneas, I find the term 'cut open for usable parts' creepier quite frankly and I am hard pressed to find such words in any article about this. This is not about listing body parts, it is about showing how this wonderful girl has given a gift to others. There is enough misunderstanding about organ donation without getting grotesque about it.

It is a bit creepy to list off the body parts, if you ask me. But that's just my personal opinion. I'm glad she was able to help others but I really don't need to know about specific body parts being removed from a child.

But then again I can see others using her entire corpse to fuel their gun debate position so I guess there are worse ways to talk about her...

Well that's exactly what organ donation often entails and while this piece only mentions the cornea but I'm sure they attempted to recover whatever parts, and thats exactly what they are, they could. I realize the benefits of the process and I'm an organ donor myself.

It's not negative, the concept of the procedure being done on a child creeps me out but I don't disapprove. I can say the same thing about a whole lot of practices, especially in the medical field.

What happened to the Eye for an Eye philosophy? The shooter should be giving up his eyes, his heart etc..and let the good people who really need them organs enjoy not this horrible idiot criminal.

If current excecution methods didn't damage so many useful parts than he could...once he's executed. The gallows would be a fine tool for preserving organ vitality, shame those chemicals ruin everything.

Like I said, nice for the kids who get to keep seeing. So sue me if the idea of a child being cut open for usable parts is a little offputting for me. When I was in high school I occasionally cleaned equipment for the mortuary near my home, I got used to dead adults pretty quick, but children are another matter entierly. I maintain my position as being kinda creeped out.

The USA has way too many drugs, too many guns, and then too much violence. RIP little girl from Arizona and may the NRA burn in hell!

What an attitude to the parents of this girl. I commend them for making this decision to help others.

we had a standing rule that the kids could not go play at any house that had firearms" I can completely understand that, I had that rule as a kid. However, until you guys come up with a valid idea of lowering crime, doing your best to guarantee that I would never be a victim of a gun crime from someone who has one after fire arms are made illegal, if you please don't mind, I'm gonna protect myself even if I have to make one by hand.

Now, back to the topic, guys, I've seen more than a few dead kids and parts being pulled. Its sad when you see parents go through this and its really hard for the staff to ask the parents for these parts just as their kid has died.

cute kid and Arizona has way too lenient gun laws as I understand but making guns illegal would not solve the problem of violence...it all starts in the home and values...sadly there are some cases like this where the shooter is just plain nuts!

Sadly, the US is taking steps backward instead of learning from this tragedy. One of the only two states that does not allow concealed fire-arms is, now that they have a gun-happy right-winger at the helm, going to reverse the ban and allow more people to carry arms freely. What a sad nation the US is in this regard.

It's nice that those kids were able to retain their vision but the idea of a 9 year old being stripped for parts still kinda creeps me out. Especially with her picture right next to the headline.

tkoind2 -- agree completely. When my ex- and I were raising our kids, we had a standing rule that the kids could not go play at any house that had firearms. And, yes, we asked any new parents we did not know. But, unfortunately, not even that would have saved this sweet girl. How many people have to die senseless deaths so that the NRA-types can keep their guns?
