Actually around 80% vaccination...
Actually it does. If you are vaccinated, you are less likely to get it and less likely to be hospitalised.
Let's hope this is true!
Who are these pharma shills you speak of? A bit early to celebrate yet, but let's hope this is true.

Lucky they have 94% vaccination….but omicron doesn’t seem to care about vaccination status!
thankfully Omicron is mild with 70% less chance of hospitalisation which puts it in line with a nasty cold…
the pharma shills won’t be happy but omicron is the pathway out of this mess allowing populations to achieve herd immunity without the hospitals being over run!
merry Christmas!

Omicron is not ideal in any way, it still produce frequent hospitalizations and even death, vaccines on the other hand are much safer, better studied and the immunity they produce is effective against all the variants identified up until now.
Not true. Pfizer and Moderna have both said that their vaccines are effective against Omicron at a lower efficacy than against the virus that these vaccines were designed for.

The numbers from Australia are staggering, when compared to those reported in Japan, yet are little compared to the American daily average of new cases, which averages over 170,000.

This sounds like propaganda. The vaccine has not been proven effective against Omicron. The ones who say it is are the vaccines makers

There have been some deaths linked to vaccine reactions.
But the amount deaths that would have happened without the vaccines is like comparing a rock to the Earth.
You have left out of your narrative an important detail: vaccinated people are more likely to have milder cases compared to unvaccinated. Deaths are overwhelmingly amongst the unvaccinated.

The logic is impeccable.
A vaccine proven to do nothing and be ineffective would mean taking more of the same is useless.
Taking a vaccine proven to be effective is a different matter. Not all vaccines or "shots" last forever.
A tetanus shot is given if you stand on a rusty nail. If you do it again ten years later you need another tetanus shot as the first one you had ten years earlier is no longer effective. The time frame is different between covid and tetanus but the concept is identical. They work for a limited period of time and then the effect drops off.

@Peter14
That is some strange logic there.

All the vaccines in use around the world work. They all reduce effects of covid, some a bit better than others but all have shown to be effective. Over time their active effectiveness wanes in the body and a booster is provided to increase effectiveness of the bodies ability to resist covid.
If they did not work there would be no second or third or fourth shot. It is because they do work that boosters work.
And yes this pandemic will last for another few years in my opinion so more boosters will be needed and if a variant of concern becomes dominant that required a tweaked vaccine, then that will happen and fairly fast, but getting sufficient new stocks will take time. The virus moves faster than we do. It does not discriminate and does not take vacations. We need to be more resilient than the virus and keep slowing down its spread and ability to mutate. Giving up is not an option.

So what are the booster shots for?

Thats the theory. We're certainly going to find out. I certainly think thats a big part of the equation the Australian government is banking on.

The virus is on the way out…

Merry Xmas everyone no matter your opinion on vaccines, or omicron or anything covid related.

Saying that the increased transmissibility (the only think we know for sure for Omicron) is reason enough to be worried about omicron is not disinformation, even if it is something you don't like to hear.
The problems from the vaccine are not comparable with what Omicron causes, vaccines are "the best of two evils" only in the same sense that life saving surgery is. As in hugely much better.
Everybody knows that already except for anti-science groups that still like to make up that false argument to have something they can actually discuss against. Rational people know very well vaccines are only one part of the measures necessary to overcome the pandemic.

Which ones do you wish they had used?

The article says: "There was some good news: No deaths were reported".
In other countries, deaths were not caused by omicron. Sick people died from something else and they happened to test positive.
The data does not say that.
Iron Lad
Good luck to Australia.
Wish they had used antiviral drugs.
Mitsuo Matsuyama
Death result is not a matter of how many tests is being doing in such place, but how people manage their life and how they care about their phisical condition. If everyone uses masks, washes their hands properly, sleeps well and has good and healthy habits, the chance to survive is higher.

Everyone is going to catch Omicron vaccinated or not. Everything in life has a risk including every time we have a medical procedure such as being vaccinated. Despite evidence from South Africa that Omicron is very mild most ‘experts’ in the West ignored this and scared people with disinformation regarding the dangers.
Preventative measures are of course the best when effective and without risks. Unfortunately the vaccines fail to prevent transmission and cause many problems. The fact that many have to describe the vaccines as the lesser of two evils displays how poorly they have worked. Yes, they stopped deaths but there is no need for kiddies to be pushed into taking them.
When this is over we need to learn that vaccines are not the only answer, lockdowns neither and certainly not vaccine passports. If the world made such an effort in promoting good health as much as it did with vaccines we would have seen minimal deaths in non seniors.

Raw Beer
This Omicron variant so far appears to be an ideal attenuated virus vaccine which will likely provide robust, broad, and long lasting immunity. So far the Omicron symptoms appear not to be any worse than the side effects of the current vaccines, they are actaully probably milder.
