I'd like to know what percentage of the population abuses the welfare system in Denmark. Do generation after generation do it or an occasional slacker. And do they do it from cradle to grave with no shame?

Who knows, but the level of happiness in Denmark would indicate that they don't bother getting unnecessarily hung up on it like the Americans do.

In my country we have welfare. It's considered an important and required safety net. Some people are on it for generations, and we feel bad for those people that they don't do anything for themselves. But the other side of it is that they have to live a life on welfare.

I'd like to know why these people are so happy. According to the rightwing media, countries like Denmark are unfree socialist regimes with massive suicide rates and out of control drug addiction. They destroy choice and the happiness of the individual. The same thing is said about other Scandinavian countries who scored high on this scale.

So confusing.

Wasn't it Hayek who when pressed as to why the Scandinavian countries do so well flying in the face of his ideas replied with something along the lines of "yes, but they aren't happy".

More confusing still.

Except for those cartoons.

"Except for those cartoons."

I was amazed that those cartoons were published. I thought socialists hated freedom of speech and the people lived in a miserable country under a socialist jackboot.

Amazing what happens in these countries. I found out lots of them vote too. Lots of them. Elections! Amazing.

I'm astounded. You mean socialist countries aren't just a bunch of people all living on welfare, stifling freedom of speech, and generally just sitting around all entitled? Amazing.

Hold onto your hat! There's more! I also discovered that some people work in these countries as well. Some people are even ambitious and become entrepreneurs and start companies. Some of the companies are big! The governments even allow them to trade with other countries!

They have....wait for it....rich people.
