I'm pro-death penalty when it comes to acts of heinous murder(s) - particularly against children. But execution for financial crimes? I can't get my head around that. I guess Communist Vietnam have their reasons.

Perhaps many of the top Communist "leaders" lost the $millions they had themselves stolen from the public, and this is retribution.

I mean, can't they take all her money and also sentence her to death? How is she going to reimburse it? Did she invest it all in crypto or something and hide they keys? Just tell her you'll commute the sentence and then after she turns over the funds kill her anyway. Criminals don't deserve it.
