Peace in the Middle East

Isn't the headline missing the key clause;

eliminated IF they attack Iran.

The headline seems to imply that he wants to bomb Israel for no reason but that's not the case is it. He's simply stating what would happen if his country were attacked.

4 ( +11 / -7 )

This moron is living proof people with mental illnesses can actually come to power in the 4th world.

4 ( +10 / -6 )

I have good Iranian friends, and most do not like their government and most are too afraid to speak out against this idiot, fool moron with that nasty scrappy excuse of a beard and little beady eyes, and his name is way too long to even try to type it out, so anyway I hope Israel does not fall for this dorks traps, let that little dog who barks a lot keep on barking, yap yap yap! As the old saying goes, it is the DOG that is really quiet that dont yap yap yap and next thing you know it is like a pitbull biting your leg off that are the real dangerous ones, in my view old beady, squinty eyes is like a yapping Chihuahua and Ben kun is like them quiet but mean as hell pit bull dogs.

@NS

The headline seems to imply that he wants to bomb Israel for no reason but that's not the case is it. He's >simply stating what would happen if his country were attacked.

In August 2006, Deutsche Welle, citing AFP, reported that Ahmadinejad had written a letter to German Chancellor Angela Merkel suggesting that the victorious Allied powers in World War II may have invented the Holocaust to embarrass Germany.[73][74] "Is it not a reasonable possibility that some countries that had won the war made up this excuse to constantly embarrass the defeated people ... to bar their progress," Ahmadinejad reportedly wrote in the letter. Merkel indicated that she would not formally respond to the letter, saying it contained "totally unacceptable" criticism of Israel and the Jewish state's right to exist. In a September 2006 interview with NBC Nightly News Anchor Brian Williams, Ahmadinejad said that when he called the Holocaust a myth he was merely trying to communicate that it was not just Jews that died, but millions of people and he wants to know why it is the Palestinian people that have to pay for the Nazis' slaughter of the Jewish people.[75] In the second World War, over 60 million people lost their lives. They were all human beings. Why is it that only a select group of those who were killed have become so prominent and important? Do you think that the 60 million who lost their lives were all at the result of warfare alone? There were two million that were part of the military at the time, perhaps altogether, 50 million civilians with no roles in the war – Christians, Muslims. They were all killed. The second and more important question that I raised was, if this event happened, and if it is a historical event, then we should allow everyone to research it and study it. The more research and studies are done, the clearer the issue gets. We still leave open to further studies absolute knowledge of science or math. Historical events are always subject to revisions, and reviews and studies. We're still revising our thoughts about what happened over thousands of years ago. Why is it that researchers are jailed? Why is researching this issue prohibitited? Where as we can openly question God, the prophet, concepts such as freedom and democracy? And the third question that I raised in this regard: assuming that this happened, where did it happen? Did the Palestinian people have anything to do with it? Why should the Palestinians pay for it now? Five million displaced Palestinian people is what I'm talking about. Over 60 years of living under terror. Losing the lives of thousands of dear ones. And homes that are destroyed on a daily basis over people's heads. You might argue that the Jews have the right to have a government. We're not against that. But where? At a place where their people were – several people will vote for them, and where they can govern. At a Holocaust conference at Sharif University of Technology in Tehran on 27 January 2009, Ahmadinejad stated: For 60 years they allowed no one to question and cast doubt on the logic of the Holocaust and its very essence – because if the truth were to be exposed, nothing would remain of their logic of liberal democracy. It is the very advocates of liberal democracy who defend the Holocaust, who have sanctified it to the point where none may enter. Breaking the padlock of the Holocaust and reexamining it will be tantamount to cutting the vital arteries of the Zionist regime. It will destroy the philosophical foundation and raison d'être of this regime...I invite the dear researchers, intellectuals, young people and students, who are the trailblazers, to reexamine not only the Holocaust, but also its consequences and aftermath and inform others of their studies and research. Let us not forget that more than ever before, the Zionist network, which came up with the issue of the Holocaust, must be exposed, and be presented to the peoples as it really is. In early June 2009, Ahmadinejad described Israel as "the most criminal regime in human history" and spoke about the "great deception of the Holocaust" in a speech quoted by IRIB. At the September 2009 Quds Day ceremonies in Tehran, he stated Israel was created on "a lie and a mythical claim," that the Western powers "launched the myth of the Holocaust. They lied, they put on a show and then they support the Jews" – what the New York Times considered "among his harshest statements on the topic," and one immediately condemned by the US, UK, French and German governments.

Describing Israel as a Germ

In a public address on IRINN TV on 2 June 2008, Ahmadinejad stated: The Zionist regime has lost its raison d'être. Today, the Palestinians identify with your name Khomeini, your memory, and in your path. They are walking in your illuminated path and the Zionist regime has reached a total dead end. Thanks to God, your wish will soon be realized, and this germ of corruption will be wiped off.

2010 criticism of peace talks with Israel

On al-Quds Day in September 2010, Ahmadinejad criticized the Palestinian Authority for agreeing to renew direct peace talks with Israel. He called the talks "stillborn" and "doomed to fail," and urged Palestinians to continue armed resistance. Nabil Abu Rudeineh, a spokesman for the PA, responded that Ahmadinejad "does not represent the Iranian people,... is not entitled to talk about Palestine, or the President of Palestine."

2011 comparison of Israel to cancer

In May 2011, after a protest over the creation of Israel in 1948, during which 12 Palestinians were killed, Ahmadinejad said on television "... like a cancer cell that spreads through the body, this regime infects any region. It must be removed from the body.

2011 comparison of Israel to a transplanted kidney

In remarks published Egypt's Al-Akhbar newspaper in November 2011, Ahmadinejad stated "This entity [Israel] can be compared to a kidney transplanted in a body that rejected it. “Yes it will collapse and its end will be near.

July 2012 statement on Zionism and destroying Israel

In July 2012, ahead of Qods Day, Ahmdainejad said that "any freedom lover and justice seeker in the world must do its best for the annihilation of the Zionist regime in order to pave the path for the establishment of justice and freedom in the world," and that the ultimate objective of world forces must be the annihilation of the "Zionist regime". Ahmadinejad added that “the Zionist regime is both the symbol of the hegemony of the Zionism over the world and the means in the hand of the oppressor powers for expansion of their hegemony in the region and in the world” and that "liberating Palestine" would solve all of the world's problems. Ahmadinejad also made allegations and repeated traditional anti-Semitic slurs that "Zionists" control the world's media and financial systems, and that a "horrible Zionist current" had been managing world affairs for "about 400 years."

August 2012 statement on Zionism and destroying Israel

In August 2012, at an annual protest against the existence of Israel,[114] Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that "the very existence of the Zionist regime is an insult to humanity" and that "the Zionist regime and the Zionists are a cancerous tumor. Even if one cell of them is left in one inch of (Palestinian) land, in the future this story (of Israel's existence) will repeat."[115] Ahmadinejad also said that Israel would soon be finished off, and that “the nations of the region will soon finish off the usurper Zionists in the Palestinian land".[114] Ahmadinejad added that "it is dangerous if even 10% of the territory is given to the Zionists." Ahmadinejad also said, "The western powers cannot tolerate criticism of the Zionist regime. They feel compelled to defend it."

I think it's quite clear what Iran is thinking and planning.

1 ( +10 / -9 )

“Iran has been around for the last seven, 10 thousand years. They (the Israelis) have been occupying those territories for the last 60 to 70 years," Maybe he was correct in stating the country of Israel but as for the Jewish people how far does their history go back in the same lands that is now the country of Israel.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

and his name is way too long to even try to type it out..

Ahmadimmabulb. Simple.

This is the kind of statements that make Israelis worry. It's one thing to negotiate, but Ahmadimmabulb keeps up this rhetoric. Does he want to be attacked? Can he be trusted with nukes? When will the Iranians be rid of this fool?

5 ( +7 / -2 )

This guy is a nutjob, no doubt. But, Netanyahoo eggs it on as well. Peace there becomes less likely every day.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

NetinYahoo?? LOL!! Herve, you made my morning! And Eric too! Thanks for helping me spell that idiot's name correctly, so it is AhMADdimmaBulb?? LOL! I am not so good at spelling all these names from funny countries like Israel and Iran, better stick to easy names in Japanese.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

I find it pretty disturbing to see the same people who are against "terror" also railing against Iran while saying next to nothing about "Five million displaced Palestinian.... Over 60 years of living under terror. Losing the lives of thousands of dear ones. And homes that are destroyed on a daily basis over people's heads."

And the funny thing is, it's usually the same people for which the key reason they "support" Israel is a bunch of words in a holy book they cannot prove, which also states - very clearly - "love your neighbor as yourself."

Faux anger, faux "support" for Israel. faux "Christians" who only obey the parts of their Bibles they like and ignore the bits they don't.

All welded together with 100% hypocrisy.

It's quite a mix.

-3 ( +7 / -8 )

Ahmadinejad is a performing monkey tethered to a leash held by Iran's mullahs.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

And to point out a little more of the hypocrisy of the Israel "supporters" - they rail against Iran's "nukes", although as yet there is no evidence Iran has developed useable nuclear weapons.

(And no, a large explosion inside a mountain that USGov says is a "nuclear test" is not necessarily an indication of the existence of a nuclear device.)

Meanwhile, the same folks say nothing - except in hushed whispers - that Israel already has nuclear weapons.

Can the Israel "supporters" out do their own hypocrisy?

-6 ( +4 / -9 )

@Snarky

how you are trying to counter neversubmit's statement about Iran's reaction if attacked with junk about >Holocaust denial is beyond me. Talk about apples and oranges.

Junk eh'? Hmmm.....I see.

Israel has been threatening Iran too you know. Bringing up the Holocaust is out there like friggen Pluto.

Really? Israel is a tiny, tiny country 6 million pop. Iran has about 74 million pop. There is absolutely NOTHING that Iran has that Israel wants, NOTHING! They just want peace, not be threatened. I just showed you facts that Iran and how most radical muslims think about the Jewish state. Israel is NOT seeking ANY confrontation with Iran, but the threat is there, Ahmadinejad and the Mullahs repeatedly stated about the need to destroy Israel, so why should Israel just sit by and wait for Iran to Nuke them, that is insane! So the threats came from Iran first and Israel promised to turn Iran into a wasteland and bomb it back into the stone age and if I were Iran, I really would listen to that threat or promise if you want. In that case, especially when you factor in the nuclear component, Israel has to do what it must to protect itself. If Iran can promise peace, Israel will do the same, of course.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

SS3, we're on the same page regarding the western hypocrisy in that region. The Palestinians have been terrorized for decades since their displacement. The UN really stirred the pot to begin with.

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

shut the hell up Ahmedinajad! No sense! George Bush is not around...go, find and play with him!!!

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Herve Nmn L'Eisa, I think there is an error in your post.

The Palestinians have been terrorized for decades since their displacement.

The Palestinians have had several offers for peaceful coexistence alongside the Israelis, unfortunately Yassar Arafart, Head of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) continually refused this, calling for 'right of return', 'Jerusalem as the Palestinian capital', and other far-reaching, lofty demands. Then the PLO then started terrorizing the Israelis by using suicide bombers in cafes, on buses, in outdoor markets, and wherever else innocent civilians gathered in large numbers, with the intended aim (and success) of killing hundreds of them. The Palestinian have BEEN terrorized for decades? I think you've got it backwards!

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Bass - "Israel has to do what it must to protect itself."

Why are you against Iran doing exactly the same thing?

You want to have it both ways with jelly beans on top?

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Facts should be cross referenced with other sources, no one ever said a "preemptive" strike.. they said if israel pretty much as launches on missile on iran, that jet would return back to israel with no base to land on.

oh.. btw... while he was in New York, he received an award from the Jewish community there for his work in helping the Jewish People all over the world.

He asks a lot of questions to make you think outside of the box... MAKES YOU THINK FOR YOURSELF... rather than his counterparts who forces their ideology on you with fabricated facts.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

actually the way to stop iran cold would be to sabotage their oil refineries. not hidden so easier to target, less heavily defended,.no oil, no money for investment in nukes, no need to wait for sanctions to have an effect. end of story.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

and after sabotaging their oil refineries you should go down to the local bicycle shop and pick yourself up a nice cruiser... or watch out for the backlash from China and Russia. You believe Iranian's oil is only used in Iran?

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

@Sushi

Why are you against Iran doing exactly the same thing?

I'm not, of course they have every right to protect themselves. But you DO NOT hear Israel talking about destroying the Iranians because they are Muslims. It is totally inarguable to think that Israel wants to attack Iran for no reason whatsoever. If you think otherwise, then you don't know anything about ME politics. I suggest you to go to Israel and you will see firsthand who the aggressor is.

You want to have it both ways with jelly beans on top?

No, I want Iran to stop thinking of some idiotic prophecy that is basically telling them in oder for the prophecy of the arrival of the 12th Imam to be fulfilled, it calls for the destruction of the Jewish state.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

The guys a nutjob if he believes what he's saying, although I wonder how much of it is designed to garner support among radicals back in Iran; it's not the kind of regime where anybody can be seen to be overly interested in reaching out for peace if they want to remain in power.

Having said which, until the day that Israel stops seizing Palestinian land, bulldozing Palestinian homes and replacing them with "settlers" (ie thieves), then this kind of rhetoric is going to be supported, or at least tolerated, by all kinds of people all over the world.

I'm all for Israel's right to exist, but "exist" and "expand unlawfully into a neighbouring area" are very different things.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Bass - "I suggest you to go to Israel and you will see firsthand who the aggressor is."

And I suggest you to go to Palestinel and you will see firsthand who the aggressor is.

They are WALLED IN for #%^} sake. They are blockaded and Israel controls what goes in and comes out by road.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

SuhiSake3

They are blockaded and Israel controls what goes in and comes out by road.

What goes in is less material to make rockets and what comes out is fewer suicide bombers. Justification enough.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

“Where is he now?” Ahmadinejad asked of Rushdie. “Is he in the United States? If he is, you shouldn’t broadcast that for his own safety.”

Pretty creepy......you don't often see world leaders directly threatening private citizens.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

SushiSake3: (And no, a large explosion inside a mountain that USGov says is a "nuclear test" is not necessarily an indication of the existence of a nuclear device.) Meanwhile, the same folks say nothing - except in hushed whispers - that Israel already has nuclear weapons. Can the Israel "supporters" out do their own hypocrisy?

This is your famous North Korean argument. Why are you using it in a thread about Iran? You know that "Israeli supporters here" don't talk about Iran already having nukes. Just a strange post overall.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

@Sushi

Like I said, you have no idea of what the Palestinians do. Do you know how many weapons they smuggle into Gaza to attack Israel, do you know how many suicide bombers that came in and killed people? Not to mention that Hezbollah refuses to recognize Israel as a legitimate state, so you think they want to take a chance and negotiating with someone that doesn't even recognizes its very existence? That's the reason for the blockade. The less materials they can get it in, the safer Israelis can live. The West Bank is fine, there are many Palestinians that work, live in Israel have citizenship and under Abbas are much better than the fanatics in Gaza. No one wants to see anyone hurt of suffer, but the fanatics in Gaza will never change their ideology. The Gazans need to take the first step.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Superlib, thanks for pointing out my wayward comment.

An unintentional slip. :-)

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

He said that he condemns extremism. Eliminating Israel from the face of the earth is a modest statement? In what reality does he live? Iran will have the bomb, then everyone will say, "Mistakes were made."

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Ahmadinejad just said that capitalism creates gay, and Israel will be eliminated from the U.N.podium? He is the face of Shiite Muslims with apocalyptic belief , and controls major oil supply! Certainly a big mess for himself and the U.N. as well. There are too much hatred across M.E. and is too hard to see the light out of darkness. They play with fire, and fire will consume them all. Freedom of expression, basic human rights, same sex marriages, religious freedom....are decadents value for the West in the eyes of most Muslims, especially Iran and Saudi Arabia. The Iran's regime defenders should move to Iran thus enjoying their liberalism with Ayatollah, and see what the outcome may be.......

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Well, the Iranian leader doesn't know history. He also denounced extremism the other day???

Every time he speaks, I am reminded of Hitler and how he must have sounded somewhat crazy and somewhat truthful, and people mistakenly believed Hitler was too far fetched to go anywhere.

Plus, this guy is the mouthpiece. He is speaking for a group of religious zealots controlling Iran and who believe this stuff.

In regards to history, many different people lived in the land called Israel. For the most part, the Israelis lived on the coast, and the Palestinians lived in the hills overlooking the coast. Israel controlled the port and trade with other nations, and the Palestinians controlled the greatest commodity at the time, lumber. So, Israel played middle man to the Egyptians and others who needed Palestinians wood to build their empires.

The area basically got overrun a number of times, from the Persians and from the Egyptians. When that happened, the Israelis retreated into the desert and lived with the Palestinians and other nomads of the area. It was here that Muslim religious stories made their way into the Israeli, and Christian, bible, e.g., the tower of Babel, Noah's ark, etc. There was also plenty of opportunity for the cultures, and blood, to mix.

There has always been one war or another in this area and different people have held the territory at different times. There is a real historical dispute of who owns the territory, but Iran itself cannot say that Israel doesn't belong there. Iran certainly doesn't belong in Israel unless Iran wants to count the times the Persian army rolled in with massive armies (and elephants, which often caused more damage to their own troops if the battle wasn't going well) to overtake Egypt and the middle east. However, Iran is not the Persian empire, and the Persians eventually lost the territory.

If you think ownership of the Sankaku islands is convoluted, the middle east turmoil almost makes it all look tame and inconsequential.

Ultimately, there will be no solution to Israel that will satisfy Iran. It is a country with an amazing people that is ruled by despots greedy to maintain their power. If Israel disappears, their will be another great devil (U.S., UK, France, any non-Muslim person) for them to demonize and use as a scapegoat from their own demagoguery.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

You don't have to support or defend a man like Ahmadinejad to support the Palestinian statehood.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Most Arabs I know Iran more than they hate Israel and as for Russians?? Chinese?? They already have problems with Muslim minorities, etc... I'm sure they don't want Iran to be helping Muslim terrorists INSIDE of Russia nor China, just a wild guess!!

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

sounds like hitler with his "kill the jews, kill the homosexuals" life-mission; but he is very innovative, he adds to his list "stone adulterous women to death".

ah, i forgot, according to this amadinnerjacket-sicko-monster, hitler never killed any jew; therefore amadinnerjacket-sicko-monster will be the first to try to wipe the jews.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Superlib... You don't see world leaders threatening private citizens? Maybe you're right... Obama doesn't threaten private citizens.. especially his own.. he just assassinates them as he sees fit.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Readers must be careful that English speaking mainstream media (MSM) lies a lot on the the news about Iran, Ahmadinejad, his threats to eliminate the Israel state, etc etc.

Ever notice that the original Farsi is never ever ever included in any such mainstream media? That the mainstream media (MSM) just twisted the original version to deliver the false impression or to create the bad guys of the ME or to portray Iran as the threat or enemy of the Western people, as the Axis of Evil as George Bush called.

It's advisable to also check the Iran's english media such as Press TV http://www.presstv.ir/ ( or Russia Today http://rt.com/ ) to verify the news accuracy!! Iran's media surely will quote its leader's speeches.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

I'm afraid Iran's media has about the same level of credibility as the Chinese media.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Maybe you're right... Obama doesn't threaten private citizens.. especially his own.. he just assassinates them as he sees fit.

Both China and Iran need to realize that making random statements with neither support nor intent to follow up is not something that will garner them respect on the global stage. That sort of "smack talk" is best left between tiny groups trying to intimidate each other.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

"Is insulting other people not a form of crime?”

nope, people with intelligence, a sense of humour and security in their own convictions - religious or otherwise - don't start condemning people to death for blasphemy or rudeness or a lack of respect. They simply ignore them, or laugh.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Sorry folks, but, "Yawn". This guy will never quit his garbage talk. It amazes me that he can actually enter the United States. Who lets him in?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

this person reminds me of hitler, his life mission being "kill the jews, kill the homosexuals". in fact, he has improved upon hitler's legacy by adding such things as: "stone adulterous women to death". since he doesn't believe in the holocaust, it seems he wants to be the first to implement it, or at least to outdo hitler.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Sorry Tom, he is not just entering the USA but he is going to the UNITED NATIONS, so the USA has the responsibility to ALLOW all the heads of state, of both countries the USA likes and of those that the USA dislikes, because the USA vowed to uphold the United Nations charters and treaties, we want to protect freedom of speech?? We can not dictate who can speak and who can not like Fox News or that slob Rush Limbaugh, right??

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Sure America will be dragged into the the conflict with Iran and that may delay her recovery maybe more than two decades! Tahts why Obama was timid to response! By the way, Mr Obama has much sympathy over islamic countries including Iran, right?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

How so?
