The vast majority of GOP senators doesn’t care what kind of destructive monstrosity the party becomes. As long as it can win.

I suspect this is not what the founding fathers had in mind for the republic.

The GOP is just screwed. They don't want a guy with a sub-40% approval rating who just got trounced in a national election continuing to be the face of the party. But as the GOP base continues to show support for Trump, they are quickly seeing their opportunity to rid the party of him evaporating, and now some are changing their tune entirely.

McConnell is especially screwed. Go against Trump and feel the wrath of his supporters. Go with Trump and realize that you will not grow your base, especially with the young, minorities, and suburban women, which the GOP desperately needs to survive despite elections being rigged in their favor.

The GOP needs to take their medicine and sacrifice short-term gain for long-term survival, but unless a large enough group is willing to step forward then they will all step back. If things turn out as expected, with most of the GOP voting against conviction, then they'll all be putting on the same leash they are desperately trying to get rid of.

And have you seen this new Congresswoman from Georgia? The one posting and supporting Tweets and Facebook posts about assassinating Democrats? Just....what an absolute mess the GOP has become. It will take decades of slow decline before they finally turn thing around.

Democratic Sen Tim Kaine said Wednesday that he’s discussing with colleagues whether a censure resolution to condemn former President Donald Trump for his role in the deadly Jan 6 attack on the Capitol could be an alternative to impeachment, even as the Senate proceeds with a trial.

Jesus, Tim. Read the room. You have a Constitutional duty to hold a trial. Hold the damned trial. Make your GOP colleagues go on record as siding with the incitement of an attack on our Democracy.

It was unclear whether other Democrats, or any Republicans, would sign on to Kaine’s censure proposal, and the trial was moving ahead as planned.

If censure were considered instead of a vindictive, hastily arranged, and precedent setting impeachment for a president who would be out of office before they could hold a trial they might have gotten the votes. Now they will not. Will just have to wallow in their impeachment party hate instead. Knowing Progressives, they will thoroughly enjoy themselves.

Everyone knew this was another screwup quick to rush tactic that the Dems conjured up and would lose again. They never learn. Every sensible person knew this impeachment farce was going to go nowhere.

The rich and shameless always get away with it. Hopefully, the many other lawsuits will see him in a jumpsuit eventually. Or private prosecutions.

Remember, this despicalbe man betrayed American democracy.

Every sensible person knew this impeachment farce was going to go nowhere.

Just like every sensible person knew that Biden winning the election was "never going to happen".
