Sounds like there was a doge employee already fired for leaking that probably had access to every American's social security number.

The Treasury Department has maintained that the review is merely about assessing the integrity of the system and that no changes to it are being made.

And I've got a bridge to sell you.

But according to two people familiar with the process, Musk's team began its inquiry looking for ways to suspend payments made by the U.S. Agency for International Development, which Trump and Musk are attempting to shutter.

Completely illegal. I expect serious repercussions for this lawlessness starting with a subpoena for Musk to answer to congress.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

Shame on Republicans for not standing up to this lawless crap.

What’s the purpose of Congress?

3 ( +8 / -5 )

Shame on Republicans for not standing up to this lawless crap.

Because it’s not lawless

What’s the purpose of Congress?

Congress jobs are still intact, the difference is, Musk is basically an advisor, nothing more, he doesn’t have any power to do anything other than observe, make notes and report back to the President. So yes, he should look and have Trump cut out as much pork as he can. Next, DOE! Can’t wait to see the waste in that.

-7 ( +5 / -12 )

Shame on Republicans for not standing up to this lawless crap.

Same reason Dems/citizens/posters didn't stand up to Biden's lawless crap. War is Peace right?

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

Do you ever wonder if Musk isn't actually an agent working for the CCP? Does Musk really have America's interests at heart? From watching him, you have to consider the possibility.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Congress controls spending, not the Executive. If you believe in the Constitution.

Musk isn’t just advising. He’s cutting off money that was already approved by Congress.

If you want to get rid of waste, that’s Congress’s job, not Musk’s.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Democrats' efforts to push back against spending cuts that President Donald Trump is seeking through DOGE could lead to a Washington showdown with possible broader repercussions.

You need accountability. Your country is a democracy of a plutocracy. You’re supposed to answer to the people and explain the funding for the transgender clinic in India the people paid for.

Did you send money to the Hamas? If you had accountability then you might not have missed payments or lose personal data.

Get through your head. You were wrong.

Musk is on the front cover of Time sitting behind the Oval desk.

Ask Congress.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Congress controls spending, not the Executive. If you believe in the Constitution.

Yes, but the President in the meantime can issue and EO to stop the spending

Musk isn’t just advising. He’s cutting off money that was already approved by Congress.

He doesn’t have the power, and yes, he is advising on single detail where money is wasted and none of it, let me repeat, none of is justified.

If you want to get rid of waste, that’s Congress’s job, not Musk’s.

And they will do their job after we clean all the fraudulent waste out. This is a good and necessary thing.

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

Do you ever wonder if Musk isn't actually an agent working for the CCP?

The USAID is rather authoritarian carrying on as they please and not having to answer to anybody.

Musk is only enforcing the principle of a government for the people.

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

Musk is on the front cover of Time sitting behind the Oval desk.

Chum for the losers to chew on

-8 ( +3 / -11 )

It’s hilarious as a bunch of elderly Democrats chasing DOGE kids all around town and being denied entry everywhere they go.

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

If you want to get rid of waste, that’s Congress’s job

read that a few more times with a straight face.

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

Are the Dems really trying to destroy their party?

I am no great fan of Trump or Musk but seriously is this the Hill the Dems want to die on?

Even Dems supporters are asking questions about much of the crazy waste things like USAID have been up to.

Politico getting $ 8 million?

$400,000 for 178 subscriptions?

$20 million for Sesame Street episode in Iraq, a $1.5 million to advance DEI in Serbia's workplaces, $70,000 for a production of a DEI musical in Ireland, etc... when did Ireland and Serbia become underdeveloped countries needing foreign aid?

Exactly, that kind of wasteful frivolous spending has to stop immediately, it’s just beyond crazy!

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

DOGE needs to be scarped and Mr. Musk need to be returned to Texas to run his business.

"" The People Elected Trump and NOT Musk. "" some federal worker posters read.

DOGE needs to be scarped and Mr. Musk need to be returned to Texas to run his business.

Using that logic then they also need to be "scraped" because no federal bureaucrat was elected either.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

Antiquesaving

Are the Dems really trying to destroy their party?

No.

I am no great fan of Trump or Musk but seriously is this the Hill the Dems want to die on?

Sure. Look at the numbers of protestors across the country.

50,000 private jobs lost.

Farmers losing markets.

Even Dems supporters are asking questions about much of the crazy waste things like USAID have been up to.

No, they aren’t.

Politico getting $ 8 million?

$400,000 for 178 subscriptions?

Just like MTG.

$20 million for Sesame Street episode in Iraq, a $1.5 million to advance DEI in Serbia's workplaces, $70,000 for a production of a DEI musical in Ireland, etc... when did Ireland and Serbia become underdeveloped countries needing foreign aid?

It’s all money well spent in projecting US “soft power” abroad.

Demo what? I believe they have all been purged thanks to Elon.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

"" The People Elected Trump and NOT Musk. "" some federal worker posters

And Trump appointed Musk to do one of the jobs the people elected him to do

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

It’s all money well spent in projecting US “soft power” abroad.

it’s money spent on psyops abroad and it’s a funnel for grifters

-3 ( +5 / -8 )

the President in the meantime can issue and EO to stop the spending

So in the future you would be fine with a Democratic president canceling spending already passed into law?

Imagine if Clinton, Obama, or Biden had done this. (I predict some MAGA believer will claim that they did.)

Again, what is the point of Congress if the Executive can simply erase the bills passed into law?

—If you want to get rid of waste, that’s Congress’s job

read that a few more times with a straight face.

Zing.

except for the minuscule DEI budget,

That minuscule DEI budget could have been use for North Carolina flood victims who were told the government doesn't have enough money to adequately help them.

The military allows you to sleep at night.

What does gender affriming health care in Guatemala do for the American people.

-5 ( +4 / -9 )

The only "grifting gravy train" is the one going from the White House to Silicon Valley...

I see you've not seen the list of USAID spending...or funnelling rather

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

The military allows you to sleep at night.

Therefore it shouldn’t be audited.

What does gender affriming health care in Guatemala do for the American people.

I don’t know. Ask Congress. They have the power of the purse and they approved the funding.

Besides, why cut off ALL aid, including food and medical just because you’re opposed to one program (that I’m sure is being exaggerated)? Sounds like throwing the baby out with the bath water.

Which is, again, the point. It’s all designed to inflict pain, not cut waste.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Nah, I don't read the far-right sites that so easily manipulate the uninformed...

Therefore it shouldn’t be audited.

yet the Pentagon is also being reviewed.

https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/5133375-trump-orders-musk-review-federal-spending/?tbref=hp

kinda ruins that argument doesn’t it?

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

Great. All the money saved can go towards the ‘garden of American heroes’.

A single statue of religious figure Bill Graham, added to the National Statuary Hall at the US Capitol in 2024, cost $650,000.

How many hundreds of millions will get spent making this garden?

3 ( +8 / -5 )

DOGE- Democrat, Overreach, Grifting, Exposed

I don't think you know what "grifting" means. A girft would imply the money that goes to these NGOs is diverted and used for someone's personal gain instead. But in the vast majority of cases, the money from USAID was indeed used by the NGOs to do exactly what they set out to do (like "sex changes in Guatemala", or any other example you can make up). You can call it a huge waste if you want, but it's not a grift.

A great example of a grift is Trump using his charity to bolster his campaign and settle business debts.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

Besides, why cut off ALL aid, including food and medical just because you’re opposed to one program (that I’m sure is being exaggerated)?

they clearly aren’t cutting off ALL aid. Because some employees remain to do the work that aligns with our values.

nothing was exaggerated. The spending and the amount was clearly identified.

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

How many hundreds of millions will get spent making this garden?

don’t worry, it’s not waste when it’s “just 0.6% of the total budget”.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

Therefore it shouldn’t be audited.

Agreed. Audited...not cut

-5 ( +4 / -9 )

A girft would imply the money that goes to these NGOs is diverted and used for someone's personal gain instead.

Yes...that's exactly what "grift" means.

Go look at the list...and the excessive expenditures for each...then pretend there is no grift involved

Have at it

-5 ( +4 / -9 )

don’t worry, it’s not waste when it’s “just 0.6% of the total budget”.

You don’t know the cost or where the money is coming from yet. But of course you’ll be fine with it whatever.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

You said it was in 2024. That’s Joe time.

and I know it wasn’t part of USAID.

so it’s basically irrelevant

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

But in the vast majority of cases, the money from USAID was indeed used by the NGOs to do exactly what they set out to do (like "sex changes in Guatemala"

So…how many people got sex changes for 2 million dollars? Was there that much demand? Did the USA pay for 100% of them, and why?

”the vast majority” disclaimer. lol

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

I don’t know. Ask Congress. They have the power of the purse and they approved the funding.

Besides, why cut off ALL aid, including food and medical just because you’re opposed to one program (that I’m sure is being exaggerated)? Sounds like throwing the baby out with the bath water.

Which is, again, the point. It’s all designed to inflict pain, not cut waste.

Like Trump said, his killing all the UNNECESSARY programs (which are a lot) and keep the ones that are not scams, and there’s absolutely nothing that the Dems can do about it. Maxine Waters and Warren can scream at 180 db it won’t change anything, it’s going to get cut and it should as for pain, I’m sure it’s causing the Dems a lot of pain that they were caught, but they’ll be ok.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

Congress won’t allow it. Then you’ll cry harder about pottery classes for trans Syrian sesame street cast members or whatever else you can make up to avoid talking about the cost of eggs which you wouldn’t shut up about last year.

Department of Government Efficiency within every aspect of Federal government department is an essential necessary change, total transparency of how US taxpayers money is spent and in many instances wasted.

Especially access to Treasury's payment systems, its functions, its decision making processes

The question is whether mandated elected political accountability should lead?

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

or whatever else you can make up

this phrase keeps being used to deflect: “made up”

what the money was spent on and how much was spent was accurately and clearly communicated after looking at financial documents.

wasnt “made up”.

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

The lawmakers sent letters Friday to Treasury's deputy inspector general and the acting inspector general for tax administration, as well as to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, that laid out their concerns over a lack of transparency and public accountability about the access being granted to the federal government's financial plumbing.

Oh, the irony, to learn the Democrats are concerned about lack of transparency here, when the transparency brought by the Trump administration is showing the fraud, waste, and abuse perpetrated and perpetuated under the Biden administration.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

"Democrats ask for investigation into DOGE's access to Treasury's payment systems."

What are Dems afraid of? I'm sure it's scary to many because following the money is not very complicated which land some of them you know where. The cell they had built for President DJT. Keep on rolling heads Elon!!

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

You don’t know the cost or where the money is coming from yet. But of course you’ll be fine with it whatever.

Democrats, I’ll bet my life on it, given their meltdowns over the past week….

First direct deaths recorded from Trump's initiatives.

Feb 7 (Reuters) - A Burmese refugee with lung problems died after she was discharged from a U.S.-funded hospital on the Myanmar-Thai border that was ordered to close as a result of U.S. President Donald Trump's freeze on foreign aid, her family said.

Pe Kha Lau, 71, died on Sunday after becoming short of breath four days after she was sent home from a healthcare facility funded by the U.S. through the International Rescue Committee.

The IRC closed and locked hospitals in several refugee camps in late January after receiving a “stop-work” order from the U.S. State Department, according to residents and aid workers.

An IRC spokesperson told Reuters: "To hear of this loss of life is devastating and we offer our condolences to the family and friends of Pe Kha Lau."

The U.S. embassy in Bangkok did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

hand…straw…grasp

-2 ( +6 / -8 )

First direct deaths recorded from Trump's initiatives.

Sad, but it didn’t have to be if the Dems wouldn’t have been so sneaky and spent our money in secret frivolous ways. So if anyone is to blame, it’s their actions that led up to this result.

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

Bingo

-3 ( +5 / -8 )

Now do deaths due to the open boarder policy of the Biden Harris administration. I’m sure you’ll find more than 3 backed up by more than “her family said”

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

Geeter Mckluskie,

What are Dems afraid of?

"Being exposed."

Nothing but the truth Geeter Mckluskie, now we are going to know where money went in Ukraine, Iran among other nations, long time ago we used to call it paper trail now I guess it's called digital foot print. These Dems should be really worried, and I mean really worried.
