Incredibly, even after the Monica Lewinsky debacle, Clinton is still revered as an elder statesman...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Clinton as president acted shamefully, Obama has only cost me more money and my last job. Bush and the "chad" thing in florida made me feel like he cheated his way into office. Leaving God in or out is a pesonal choice. All I am asking for, is a little more honesty, and dont be slow in carring out your promisses...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Clinton's redemption cleverly orchestrated by PR and lots of favours after his dismal failure as a president does not qualify him to reccomend any one for anything. He is a sad example of how stupid American can be in the face of facts about degenerate public figures.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

The guy who looked at me and every American straight in the eye on TV and lied is tellng me who I should support. Yea OK.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

You can watch the whole speech on Youtube. I thought it was better than Obama's in that Bill went off prompter and just went with it. Even half the facts from Clinton makes more sense than anything from Romney/Ryan but that's what it looks like from here in Canada.

Best single word dig: "Arithmetic"... ouch

The largest concern though is that there is such a large following of Romney in the US at all. For such a laughable team it's a big concern to trading partners that Americans will learn to pay their bills or keep blaming others?

Can anyone tell me where I can get some "HILLARY 2016" yard signs?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"I think it was pretty obvious that the Dem's in the convention hall were attacking God"

Wolfpack....heh, WTF?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

"But okay, people think old Slick Willie Clinton gave a good speech. Hitler gave good speeches too, but they weren't necessarily laced with much truth"

Yet Mr Clinton's speech passed the fact-check, unlike your darling Ryan whose discourse went from wrong to just bold-faced lies. And as for the Hitler comparison, well - you sound desperate.

bass4funkSep. 06, 2012 - 11:40AM JST @simon Wasn't that a liberal complaint? ;-)

You might say that. The fact is that the combination of strident self-righteousness and going on about liberals as if they're worse than the Nazis, Bolsheviks and Al Qaeda together makes me think that whatever you're opposed to can't actually be all that bad. If you call people weak, disingenuous, hypocritical, unpatriotic, godless, etc etc etc, don't be surprised if their opinions become entrenched and they hurl abuse back at you. Not much of a way to win any arguments, but then again I don't suppose that's what you're actually trying to do.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Boy oh boy did clinton ever roast the repubs, made them look like a bunch of illiterate idiots, pretty truthful I wud say! HAHA!

To bad mitt had to hide bush, chaney, & rummy etc, the repubs are CLEARLY ASHAMED of those 8yrs, rightly so I suppose.

Obama in my ever so right opinion has KICKED A$$, considering he inherited a country on the verge of economic MELTDOWN & survived it. Folks THAT ALONE is a massive reason for re-electing him, the damage he avoided thankfully the US wont know(unless they elect mitt!).just how bad it cud have been & after that the selfish/twisted/UN-Amercian repubs, fought not only the democrats BUT THEIR OWN COUNTRY/PEOPLE............WTF! Simply to try to make obama look bad, well anyone of reasonable mind shud be able to see the repubs shud be kept on the sidelines for a long time for what they did to their own, FOR SHAME! And I aint even a yank!

GO OBAMA!!!!!!!

Clinton lost any credibility he may have had when he failed to fess up to having oral sex with Monica Lewinsky.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Mr Clinton delivered a very good oratory though the figures he quoted were popular fabrications.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Mirai Hayashi:

No one was attacking Christianity itself. They were attacking the idea of having religion included in the democratic platform for what is suppose to be a secular government.

I think it was pretty obvious that the Dem's in the convention hall were attacking God - and more specifically Christianity. The word God has appeared in the party platform for quite a long time and in no sense has this ever implied that government is run on the basis of any religion.

I am not a religious person myself, but it's kind of obvious that there is an anti-Christian strain within the Democrat party. Politics is about values and morality so to say that religion cannot inform government is to ignore the inherent spirituality of being human. Government leaders have made reference to God for as long as America has existed and it has harmed no one. To oppose religious points of view reveals a narrowness of perspective. You don't have to agree with it, but it is important to other people and so I am tolerant of it.

The government may be considered secular, but the values that are contain within the governments laws are informed by religion as well as custom and tradition. America's Founders were nearly all religious to some degree or other and were quite open about the influence of religion in informing their views on government. "We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created and are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights". Jefferson's words do not refer to a secular justification for separating the colonies from Britain in the Declaration of Independence. Yet the government was not then made to function from within a church.

God does not care about the political parties. The whole issue is goofy, based on the fantasy loving christian rightwing taliban types who run the republican party now.

So now you are saying the Republican party engages in suicide bombings and beheadings?? That's a new one. Never thought of that one. LOL

Quite a speech. Dems are on fire right now.

Well, I agree! You know the old saying, "liar, liar, pants on fire."

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

@seren

If Republicans don't realize how much Clinton's speech damaged Romney's already slim chances of winning, they have more problems than ever!

I don't think Republicans have a single thing to worry about. The polls show a TIGHT NECK and NECK race Obama 47% approval and a 47% disapproval, Romney at 46% When in 2008, he was campaigning with McCain, Obama led with an 8% point lead, that was a giver that Obama was going to win, this time, not so fast. Remember, polls are always subject to change.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

I'll give it to you the man was bright, and not a bad President. And I'm certainly no moral majority type what-so-ever. But I don't cheat on my wife and lie under oath about it. Perhaps I have a different definition of the word 'hero'.

That's because Liberals have follow different standards and play by different rules. Conservatives CAN'T do what Liberals do, Obama or Clinton did drugs in college it is called experimenting, Bush does it and alcohol , he is an addict, Liberal hypocrisy no matter how they can try and spin it, go figure.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Just to be fair, the title of this article should be "Bill Clinton mocked for Democratic convention apprearance."

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Funny thing though, the (Democratically controlled) Senate hasn't passed a budget in 3 years, in spite of it being a legal obligation. But the GOP is the party of 'obstruction'.......... riiiiiiiiiiiight............

What always tickles me is that, Liberals live in their own bizarre warped world of reality. For the first 2 years, 2 years, the Dems could have passed anything they wanted, pissing all over the Republicans without a single worry or Obstacle. And what do they have to show for it? Passed a stimulus that barely put a dink in the unemployment and it still kept rising, ignored the Keystone pipeline, strengthening the public sector, spent the American peoples money.

Nice guy, but he just doesn't understand how to run a government.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Democrats turned Wednesday to a hero of the past, Bill Clinton

Sorry, my heroes don't abuse their power by convincing an impressionable (and yes, stupid) girl smitten with the man's position to perform sex acts in the WH on my tax dime. If this is a liberal 'hero', well then that says volumes. I'll give it to you the man was bright, and not a bad President. And I'm certainly no moral majority type what-so-ever. But I don't cheat on my wife and lie under oath about it. Perhaps I have a different definition of the word 'hero'.

But that seems to be a liberal trait - many of your political heroes are base womanizers - well, all we need do is look at your gods in the Kennedy clan to get a more clear picture of that. Perhaps a shot of 'God' wouldn't be such a bad thing after all.

Can't wait until they roll out the Hollywood types - because we all know what they say and believe is so earth-shatteringly important. I've often based my life compass on the teachings of Sean Penn. Yeah, yeah I know - the Republicans used Clint, which was equally lame. At least I liked his westerns. The movies with the monkey sucked, but there it is.

Bill Clinton said enough more than what I could say. That's the reason I am for Obama. Please read it, it only takes 48 minutes to understand every issue in this election. Clinton did delivered it well. Do not stay close minded and I encourage you to read it.

Politics is very serious and personal as your life depends on it. Voters have relatives who are unemployed (walfare), no health insurance, no higher education access, sick families and disability,or they themselves are already in this mess.

Your 48 minutes you well spend for reading will solve many unanswered questions you have raised.

I watch Fox News, listen Rush Limbaugh and others as well. I am very open minded and welcoming what the other side has to say. I am a truth finder and I am doing my share to be just and fair. That's what I believe. I want everyone to succeed in process. I want America to succeed. That's American's way and I am proud to say I am American.

Well, stay open minded and good luck to your reading,

We will be moving FORWARD, not back. We will be a TRUTH finders, not fake.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Yeah, I can't wait to hear Obama's "give me four more years to prove that the socialist policies that failed in Europe will magically work here" speech. Obama has no clue that the economy is driven by people with jobs in small and mid sized companies, not by government spending. That's not a surprise, really. Obama never spent a day in the private sector, he's been a left wing drug abusing (unlike Clinton, who didn't inhale) rabble rouser all his professional life.

Just to put this in perspective, the Dems controlled the house and senate for the last part of the Bush lite years. They also controlled both during Obama's 1st two years. So whatever they want to blame on Bush lite - hey, you guys (including Obama) were there too helping to make the mess.

It's amazing that there isn't a third centrist party but the rules are bent to favor the present two parties. In other words, it's really all about the money and who gets it. Cut the federal budget to next to nothing and watch how many of these leeches drop off the public.

I'd rather stick with Obama than this new incarnation of the Republican Party

0 ( +2 / -2 )

"stick with Obama"

No thanks.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Watching Bill Clinton reminds me of Professor Marvel in The Wizard of Oz.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Funny thing though, the (Democratically controlled) Senate hasn't passed a budget in 3 years, in spite of it being a legal obligation. But the GOP is the party of 'obstruction'.......... riiiiiiiiiiiight............

Say what you want about Bill Clinton, he WAS a masterful politician. He could work successfully with Republicans not normally known for being reasonable. Newt Gingrich, for example. Pres. Obama simply doesn't have the chops for the job. He just isn't interested in retail leval politics.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Do not knock Bill Clinton; he was the only President that ever accomplished anything in the Oral Office. With that said, as I have said before in my comments, until the USA changes the power of the House and Senate, you can put whoever you want into office as President, but nothing will change.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

"a hero of the past, Bill Clinton"

In what way was this man a hero? Oh that's right, he was in office during the dot com bubble, never mind.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Interesting how the Democrats interpret their slogan "Forward"...

They trot out:

Jimmy Carter, failed President from a quarter century ago.

Teddy Kennedy, dead Senator and lecher who let his girlfriend die in a car (while his pregnant wife waited at home)

Bill Clinton, impeached adulterer.

Having said that, Bubba still has his chops. He gave a great speech. However, Obama better be careful that the Ol' Dog doesnt steal the spotlight. This is NOT the Democratic Party of Bill Clinton- working class whites plus minorities. The new Democratic Party is far left, extreme, and has more than its share of loonies.

You know, protocol dictates that the sitting vice president officially nominates the sitting president. Wonder why that was ignored............

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

Y'know Sailwind, I actually agree with you and I mean that. Mr Bush has shown far more class since he retired to obscurity. Anyone watching the 10 year memorial for 9/11 could see what happened between himself and Obama.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Mr Bush was as welcome at Tampa as a dose of AIDS on a porn film set.

Madverts,

Fact of the matter is that George Bush hasn't uttered one word of criticism towards President Obama since he has left office. And refuses to do so. Say what you will about partisanship or what have you, it does show a lot of class on his part in his respect for President Obama and for the job that he now holds as President.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

@bass

Yep, he sure does, that's why people love him, great orator, but Obama is NO Bill Clinton!

If by which you mean he doesn't spend his time being sucked off by fat-titted interns in the Oval Office, then I'd have to agree.

Moderator: If you ever post garbage like this again, you will be suspended from the discussion board.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

"Speaking of Bush and why he declined the invitation to the Republican convention."

Yeah, well, it all sounds admirable, but anyone without the partisan blinkers knows that despite the "invite", Mr Bush was as welcome at Tampa as a dose of AIDS on a porn film set.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

"I think it is essential that he be helped in office."

I seriously doubt he managed to use the subjunctive properly without help from his minders.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

"a hero of the past, Bill Clinton"

Bwa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

@craca

Yep, he sure does, that's why people love him, great orator, but Obama is NO Bill Clinton!

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Speaking of Bush and why he declined the invitation to the Republican convention.

Former President George W. Bush said on Tuesday that he won't criticize Barack Obama because the new U.S. president "deserves my silence," and said he plans to write a book about the 12 toughest decisions he made in office.

"I'm not going to spend my time criticizing him. There are plenty of critics in the arena," Bush said. "He deserves my silence."

"I love my country a lot more than I love politics," Bush said. "I think it is essential that he be helped in office."

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29743567/ns/politics-more_politics/t/bush-says-obama-deserves-my-silence/#.UEe695bcC3c

2 ( +2 / -0 )

@Pamelot That is the funniest thing I've heard all day. Absolutely brilliant, not least because it contains Bush and class in the same sentence.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Pamelot,

"It says a lot more, when he has the class to decline the offer, and allow the new presidential candidate and his party, to take the lead..."

That has to be the funniest excuse for Bush's absence is Tampa. Truly.

What about Cheney? Come now, what's Mr Deficits Don't Matter reason for going fishing?

7 ( +8 / -1 )

From Bill Clinton's speech, the Republicans on debt:

"Don't you ever forget when you hear them talking about this that Republican economic policy quadrupled the debt in the 12 years before I took office and doubled the debt in the eight years after I left because it defied arithmetic"

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Like Madeline Albright said a week ago, when asked, how long would they use the old boring Bush mantra (since, they don't have anything else to run on) she said, FOREVER. I thought, well of course, it's all they got. Bush must be laughing his his butt off, I know I would. Keep blaming me and make yourself look bad. ROFL

-10 ( +1 / -11 )

Heh, I think nobody can doubt Bush's more likeable in hiding. Especially as it would seem not one of JT's conservatives actually voted for him.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

It says a lot when you can invite your party's last President out in public.

It says a lot more, when he has the class to decline the offer, and allow the new presidential candidate and his party, to take the lead...

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

Mads, bush "wants to keep out of the spotlight," remember? :-)

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Just watched at least half of Clinton's speech. Great speech - anyone who is interested in public speaking can learn from him. If he weren't a politician, he would have made a great preacher.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

"Their failure to invite GWB"

They did actually invite him Sush.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Which speaker followed Clinton?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Bill Clinton is one of the great political speakers of our time. Intelligent, impassioned and uplifting. Compare this to the semi-literate disgrace who followed him. However, this doesn't excuse Clinton describing anti-semitic, racist, religious ripoff artists like Billy Graham as 'a man I love'. The primitive religious views held by many US citizens, which infects Republicans and Democrats alike, will keep the medieval views held by the likes of Akin alive, will ensure discrimination against others and will contribute to an unequivocal support of Israel which will see millions continuing to live in misery.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Yongyang - "It says a lot when you can invite your party's last President out in public."

It sure does. But on the GOP side, it says even more.

Their failure to invite GWB sends a message loud and clear that they KNOW full well and acknowledge he was the architect of the economic crash.

If the GOP were proud of GWB's achievements, they would have invited and lauded him.

As it stands, the GOP. Is clearly deeply, deeply embarrassed at their former president, and the polls clearly reflect this.

And yet there's still some conservative folks out there roaming the mental wastelands who say bush shouldn't be blamed for the current state of the economy.

What are they talking about?? The majority of Americans DO lay blame for this crisis at the feet of none other than GWB.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

"Interesting I do have to say to have Bill Clinton be the big speaker at a convention that is really focusing on woman's rights."

What part of "consensual" don't conservatives understand?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

President Clinton! (although President Obama is no slouch, as I am sure he will demonstrate tonight)

3 ( +4 / -1 )

President is a masterful speaker!

4 ( +5 / -1 )

It says a lot when you can invite your party's last President out in public.

Mirai - "What if we elect someone who thinks god actually talks to him/her (like god talks to Pat Robertson). ...It means the end of the world, and they finally get to be sucked up by the giant vacuum cleaner in the sky."

Exactly. Appalling, isn't it?

We all stop believing in Santa, and yet so many keep on believing in "God."

I probably shouldn't talk. I spent over half my life believing in the Christian god.

Then I found that everything (all the unanswered prayers, the disasters, the 'badness', bad people, etc.) all made sense when I considered god doesn't actualy exist.

Internal tension, stress and questions only arise when one looks at the world while believing a 'loving' god exists.

Mitt Romney and his conservative Christian "supporters" should probably think about this.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

What if we elect someone who thinks god actually talks to him/her (like god talks to Pat Robertson). The closest we came to this was W., and when his supernatural being told him that going to war with Iraq was the right thing to do.

What will the sky god tell these religious zealots to do next? Wage nuclear war with Iran? Remember, some of these fundamental Christians believe that the Apocalypse is near, and that the second coming of Christ is immanent. In the bible, that means the destruction of Israel, so 'some' fundamentalist are ecstatic about the prospects of war in the middle east. It means the end of the world, and they finally get to be sucked up by the giant vacuum cleaner in the sky.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

The US is going to take a Long time to recover from our past presidents policies. I still can't get over G W Bush's excuse of trying to recreate the US into a service industry instead of a manufacturing industry. Bush's idea gave companies up to 1.4 million dollars to have their products made in China. Instead of creating jobs in the US, he created jobs in China. It's this type of intelligence that the US does not need. Pres Obama, Thanks for putting and end to Bush's nonsense.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Bill Clinton is a great orator, 'There they go again', brilliant. Suck it up GOP. You're ZEro.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

What is funny to me is how the Republicans and the Democrats (and their voters) are constantly attacking each other instead of sitting around the table to get America out of this large debt, it doesn't matter who will be president as the opposition will do anything to undermine his rule.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

The job growth percentage during Obama's term (+0.84%) is still higher than that of George Bush before him (+0.51% first term, -0.84% second term). He is even doing better than Bush's father, George H.W. Bush (+0.69%). Of course, they all pale in comparison to job growth during the Clinton years (+2.60 during his first term and +1.60 during his second term).

3 ( +4 / -1 )

there are other people that are Buddhist like myself, it is too bad that they leave us out of their equation.......................

3 ( +3 / -0 )

@Sushi

When the Dems were in power they did the opposite, what on Earth are you talking about? You and Global make it like there is some sort of victimization of this President, That is just the nature of politics, deal with it. When Bush was President, Dems were always filibustering Bush, it's how politics are played, but now the shoe is on the foot, you guys have a whiny attitude as usual. Why would the Repubs go along with Obama on most of the issues that they are against and don't believe in and that is NOT part of their ideology???! I just don't get it. They will NEVER go along with this President when it comes to Fiscal responsibility, healthcare, immigration, energy and Vice versa, if you can understand that, you will lose less sleep. But if you think Conservatives will give up on their principles, then you are sadly mistaken. Even John King on CNN said, the exact same thing, the party NOT in power is always the obstructionist.

-14 ( +1 / -15 )

We will pass the balancing budget act by End of 2012

But won't reign in spending, that'll never happen.

Do not under estimate American voters. Historically, Aggregate American is smart and go for party that speaks the truth.

Then that means without a shadow of doubt, they need to rebuke Obama and his policies if that's the case. BECAUSE the American ARE smart, as you say.

America will be moving FORWARD

8.3% unemployment (and climbing) if that is moving forward, I don't even want to know what moving back is. Unbelievable!

America is already dangling, NOT to mention $16 T in the hole

Congress is at a time, but overall it doesn't look like stack of roses for both parties

http://www.gallup.com/poll/156959/gop-favorability-matches-2008-pre-convention-level.aspx

-11 ( +1 / -12 )

One of the eye-opening things about these political threads is the desperation and fearful tone of those posters who hate the possibility of a better America because it's inclusive and fair.

It's probably time to just move past these lost souls and move America forward.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Had America not had two years of complete obstruction on the part of the Republican Congress, the country would be far further along its' recovery. The Repubs clearly said they would do anything to block this president and to heck with what it did to the country. It was more important to defeat Obama than to care for this country and We The People.

It's past time American obstructed the Republicans and got the country moving by putting people into office who won't redistribute wealth into the hands of The Elites, and who don't care about the overwhelming majority of Americans.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

After 2,000 years it has become abundantly apparent that God is made in man's image (of Him) and not the other way around, regardless of whether you believe in him or not. That's reality. Remember what John Lennon said, "if enough people believe in the same thing, then that's reality". It seems to many people in modern-day capitalist America that G.O.D. = Greenbacks Or Dollars.

Personally, I don't see all that much difference between Obama and Mitt. Yes, their policies on the surface are different but deep down in side they are both politicans who will look after themselves first and the people second as politicans truly are another species.

Obama inherited a bad legacy without a doubt from George Dubbelya and so may indeed deserve another four years. Personally, I've been disappointed about his lack of action towards a solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict - that should be one of the key issues to help root out terrorism but I guess the average American voter only cares about their own backyard.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Bass - "Forward off a cliff. We already have 3 wheels hanging on the edge."

Interesting observation.

Why has the Republican-controlled Congress done absolutely NOTHING about it?

Besides saying "No!" to absolutely everything.

Looking FORWARD to your feedback.

More proof that Clint was really talking to an empty chair.

Gosh, it must be comforting for Mitt to receive full-throated support from his surrogates like Obama is getting from his.

Um......sorry, Mitt's not getting full-throated support from anyone (except Ann, of course, but she doesn't count.)

Even Mitt's 'supporters' don't really like him.

Sob...., um....sob. :-)

ROFL

-12 ( +2 / -14 )

What's funny to me, Obama is neck and neck in the polls with Romney, Obama/Romney 47% / %46 disapproval for Obama is the same 47%. in 2008 Obama had an 8% lead over McCain, not a landslide, but you could tell McCain didn't have a chance, not to mention people wanted something new. 8 years of Clinton/Bush, people had had enough. This time around the enthusiasm of the people, not to mention the youth is low this time around, there won't be the youth voter turn out like in '08, we all know there is no real love loss between Clinton and Obama, but Obama needs a serious boost and Clinton would be that person. Shame though that Obama is trying to ride Clinton's coat tails, different time, different economy, different people, different personalities. Obama doesn't a record to work on and with 32 million people out of work, of course the people are NOT in the slightest happy.

-13 ( +2 / -15 )

Clinton's was just another typical democrat speech shrieking about the republicans because he, along with all of the liberals taking the podium, can not talk about Obama's accomplishments as president because the empty chair has none.

I expected so much more from Bubba. But, I did like his extended pause after he said he had someone in mind for the presidential nomination. Now, that was funny.

RR

-11 ( +1 / -12 )

I will post Clinton's speech once it becomes available-48 minutes long.. Hope you read it to find the truth.

Romney and Ryan have been telling you guys that 2 plus 2 is ten. No, 2 plus 2 is 4! Clinton is right on. It is arithmetic!

Lie, lie, lie. Their pants are on fire!!

Tomorrow, Ryan will be here, but I do not know how many supporters will show up after this Clinton Bomb.

Obama an we will be moving FORWARD, not back.

Both these conventions have made something abundantly clear to me: the critical importance of education.

Sadly, the GOP only survives and lurches on due to the lack of it.

Heh, real FORWARD thinking.

Seems like you are suffering from the Chris Matthews aka Mr. Tingles syndrome.

You gotta love Bill Clinton. He explains things so well even Republicans can understand it. :-)

12 ( +13 / -1 )

I have just came back from fomer President Clinton Speech. Did you guys watch and listen to his speech ? It was so powerfull;

Clinton burned every lie Romney/Ryan team has been telling to trash.. I do not have to say anything more.

I am very confident that Obama will be elected for another FOUR MORE YEARS!!

8 ( +10 / -2 )

Bubba!!! Man, that creep can roll!

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

O.M.G!

Michelle Obama put a a-bomb under Ann Romney.

Bill Clinton just put a thermonuke under Mitt and the Republicans.

I have grave fears about President Obama being able to beat either of their speeches.

I see Sushi didn't leave God out of it after all.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Heh. Bill Clinton just ran over Republicans with the same bus the Republicans want to throw the middle class under.

LOL!!! :-)

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Michelle and Bill hit the ball out of the ball park and it's still flying.

The Republicans in Tampa looked so lame, so fake and just soooo pathetic after this.

@SushiSake3 "A good bunch of them showed they actually believe in separation of Church and State.

You knkw, as stated in the U.S. Constitution - the one you and most conservatives would rather tear up and throw under the bus."

The First Amendment states that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," which, as far as I can tell, isn't what's happening. Not saying I'm in support of or against what the Democrats did, it actually seems kind of pointless to me (the whole concept of bringing religion into politics at all does). Also, G-d ordered the genocide of the Amelikites because they attacked Israel while they were on their way to Canaan, also, because He is the Supreme Being... He doesn't need justification, because if He really does exist, we are subservient to Him and His will. @Jaymann I'm sure you're already aware of this, but that was an incredibly rude and offensive statement.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

@Rowan

have to remind you that congress, not Obama, control US spending, and that the House of Reps has a significant Republican majority. Don't lie and say that all of the debt is Obama's fault. He doesn't make budget decisions. And besides, Romney hasn't addressed how to reign in the debt any more than Obama has.

I didn't lie about anything, you just want to believe that Obama is NOT responsible for our $16T debt as of now, as The current sitting President, of course, it's his economy, high gas prices, 8.3% unemployment as of now since 2008, it's his, whether you want to accept it or not. Of course, congress makes the budget decisions, for the first 2 years, he and the Dems had "green light" all the way, total control, as for Romney, I really don't think you want to compare CV on that. Obama doesn't even come close to knowing how an economy functions, obviously.

-19 ( +1 / -20 )

The strangest part about all of this is that the Democrats could have just ignored the Republicans. Some battles are better left unfought and you'll only dirty yourself if you get involved.

By changing the platform halfway through the convention the Democrats have taken the wind out of their own sails and sent a lot of mixed messages. Who's idea was this anyway? It's not to say I don't find it hilarious but come on, the Dems could at least try to act in an organized fashion.

16 ( +17 / -1 )

What if we elected a Muslim or Buddhist president in the future and he/she wanted to pray to Ala or Buddha or whatever their sky god may be.

You have got to be kidding. They already tried. And I didn't hear any objections from the atheists and other so-called “separation of church and state” organizations when Republicans opted to reject a Catholic bishop's meditation and opened their convention with 2 hours of prayers to Allah led by jihadist imans with connections to terrorism. Monica Lewinsky's former rabbi is also set to deliver prayer after Bill Clinton's speech tonight. These people are seriously slit your wrist politically suicidal.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

@Sushi

You seem to have the answer to everything, lol. Will you please talk to the Blacks and Latino community that they are wrong or out of touch with being religious. Please try and impose your secularist views on them.

Good luck.

Personally, I will say a prayer that Obama will address on $16 T debt that he ran up and how he proposes to reign that in. He already tossed the debt clock out, changed the name of the stadium.

-17 ( +1 / -18 )

Religion doesn't belong in government, not a single mention of any deity. People's relationship with god/s should be built in their private time, if they want at all.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

You cannot exclude religion and try to marginalize a very strong segment of the American population, be it Democratic and Conservative.

How does not saying the word 'God' MARGINALIZE anyone?

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Romeo - "The "progressives" showed who they really are."

A good bunch of them showed they actually believe in separation of Church and State.

You knkw, as stated in the U.S. Constitution - the one you and most conservatives would rather tear up and throw under the bus.

Good luck with that.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

The "progressives" showed who they really are. The democrats adding God back into their platform was to cover their butts, but it was too late. The entire world got to see their Godless followers booing and hissing at the very mention of God. Remember when Jesus was being led to his death and had to carry his cross through the streets? People lined the streets and threw rocks at him, cursed at him and spit on him. Those people are the ancestors of today's liberals.

Republican Christians - exactly where in God's platform - the Bible - does it say to take away from the poor and give to the rich?

It doesn't.

So why are you supporting exactly the same concept in the GOP platform??????

5 ( +7 / -2 )

It's important to realize the GOP is not a Christian party.

When you scratch deeper, you see they use their god like a an all-powerful Big Brother to push their hate-based agenda, much of which was formulated in Biblical times when women had no rights (note how; even today, conservatives would wish they could strip women of their rights, taking them back to a status silat to that which existed in Biblical times.)

Re: Big Brother: "God gates gays/abortion, etc" sounds so much stronger than "I hate gays/abortion, etc."

The use of a godly Big Brother, of course is a crutch - a weakness the 'Christians' will never admit to.

I put 'Christians' in quote marks - why? - because most modern day Christians only follow the Biblical laws they want to follow. They dismiss or ignore the rest.

Jesus told his disciples to sell all their possessions. Any Christians with any possessions today is breaking this command.

Jesus said love your neighbor as yourself - Christoan conservatives barely know the meanig of the concept and you can see it on the blogs, Fox News, etc. 24/7/365.

Jesus said care for the poor. The current GOP platform preaches the complete opposite. The current GOP platform says take away from the poor and give more to the rich.

The litmus test of a genuine Christian? Genuine Christians should be outraged at the current GOP platform. And yet even the purported Christian conservatves (they know who they are) on Japan Today - not a peep. They - actually - support the antithesis of the commands of the god they claim to believe in.

And watching the GOP faux uproar over this is beyond hilarious.

Jesus slammed hypocrites - he would have a field day slamming the GOP.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

This is a joke! There is NO separation of church and state! Just a farce!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cncbOEoQbOg

The video of delegates shaking heads and screaming was certainly eye opening. Or are they booing the procedural sham by which Villaraigosa railroaded this through even though there obviously wasn't 2/3 support? I'm thinking that this is going to surface again in an ad very soon...

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

SS3, I agree with you about the hypocrisy of the GOP regarding their platform and claims of Christianity.

Here, the Dems are towing the line set by their financiers. Gotta get enough votes!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

"Romney said that “suggests a party that is increasingly out of touch with the mainstream of the American people."

Meanwhile, Mitt and his cohorts keep struggling every day to strip protections and safeguards away from the poor and vulnerable, the very people the god they pretend to believe in said should be protected!

Too funny. :-)))

3 ( +5 / -2 )

@Wolfpack

The Democrats booed God at their Convention today! Amazing. I am agnostic and even I find such religious bigotry disgusting. What's wrong with JFK's Democrat party?

No one was attacking Christianity itself. They were attacking the idea of having religion included in the democratic platform for what is suppose to be a secular government. Religion in politics does not work! The many wars in the middle east and in ancient Europe prove that!

9 ( +11 / -2 )

Mirai - "For this, the government should not be bringing religion into politics as it may conflict with other people's beliefs."

Precisely.

But it's concepts like this that fly waaaaaaaaaaaay over the heads of many conservatvez.

The religious brainwashing started early for many (myself included) and it's a mistake to underestimate how strong it can be.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

God wants you to release your tax returns Mitt, he just told me.

5 ( +10 / -5 )

Can one conservative poster please point out how the republican platform embraces the teachings of Christ?

The current GOP is about as reflective of Christ as Ghenghis Khan on a rampage.

Oops, the OT god was good at murderous rampages - just ask the Amelikites - oops, the all loving Christian god did the genocide thing on them!

Too funny.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

@bass

The pressure was coming down hard on the Dems, Mirai, the Repubs are not there or have anything to do with the Dems in Charlotte, Nice try, suck it up

Maybe you should read the article and not just the title:

Democrats under fire from Republicans amended their convention platform Wednesday to add a mention of God and declare that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel.

There are conservative Democrats and religious Democrats, I know you guys want to pin this on the Republicans, it's in your nature and you can't help it, when people have nothing else to argue, they resort to name calling and personal attacks.

You're missing the point. US is suppose to be a SECULAR government, and exercise the freedom of religion under the first amendment. THAT means, we also have the right to other beliefs or not have a religion at all. For this, the government should not be bringing religion into politics as it may conflict with other people's beliefs. What if we elected a Muslim or Buddhist president in the future and he/she wanted to pray to Ala or Buddha or whatever their sky god may be. The republican's would go ape-sh!t over it. This is the reason why religion has no place in politics or on any party's platform.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

Good work. As with extremist Muslim nations, religion plays a big part in governing the country.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

@Wolfpack

Totally agree!

-14 ( +6 / -20 )

The Democrats booed God at their Convention today! Amazing. I am agnostic and even I find such religious bigotry disgusting. What's wrong with JFK's Democrat party?

-11 ( +7 / -18 )

Obama called for a return to the 1967 border the day before meeting with Netenyahu, and then abruptly walked out of a meeting with the Israeli leader...he is the weakest US president ever in terms of support for Israel. Another reason why Obama decided and came to this decision, Florida! 4% of the Floridians are Jewish and of course, if he wants Florida, he wants to corner this voting block!

-14 ( +4 / -18 )

@Mirai

Democrats appeasing republicans (again) is not a very good message to send to the public right before an election.

The pressure was coming down hard on the Dems, Mirai, the Repubs are not there or have anything to do with the Dems in Charlotte, Nice try, suck it up, the Progressive Anti-religious Atheists, lost on this one. Remember, the majority of Blacks and Hispanics ARE religious, regardless being Dem or Repub, you will not eradicate that. But again, nice try. Take it up with Antonio Villaraigosa and Obama

-16 ( +4 / -20 )

Liberals crack me up, you guys always whine, always whine. There are conservative Democrats and religious Democrats, I know you guys want to pin this on the Republicans, it's in your nature and you can't help it, when people have nothing else to argue, they resort to name calling and personal attacks. This all is falling on the laps of liberals and the fanatical ANTI-religious wing of the Democratic party and liberals hijacked the Democratic party and brought it down from what it used to stand for. But keep on blaming Repubs for something so idiotic that everyone knew would bite you Dems back in the butt! You cannot exclude religion and try to marginalize a very strong segment of the American population, be it Democratic and Conservative.

-16 ( +6 / -22 )

So the Republicans call foul and Democrats backpeddle? Christ, after four years of this shit, you'd think the Democrats would have learned that every time you go closer to the center, the Republicans go further to the right. What the Republicans now call "extreme liberalism" used to be "moderate politics" twenty years ago.

2 ( +7 / -5 )

I truly despair. As long as the Democrats continue to bend under pressure from the God botherers the US will continue to have to factor in outrageous nonsense on subjects such as intelligent design and god's opposition to gay marriage to its thinking. The more extreme religious nutters see support for Israel as necessary to create the preconditions for the second coming while never mentioning virtual apartheid for Palestinians in occupied territories, land stealing and crippling blockades. I hope to see in my lifetime a Democrat who clearly states that he or she clearly upholds the precious idea of church/state separation and NO religion will inform public policy.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

God has no place in earthly government because we are not all of the same faith. Keep your God in your homes and your places of worship with my blessing though.

And why does American need to support Israel to the point of making a snap decision about Jerusalem? What happens if we don't? Israel will refuse our gifts of tanks, jets and attack helicopters? Oh, my!

Romney said that “suggests a party that is increasingly out of touch with the mainstream of the American people.”

Romney does not seem to realize that a country split nearly evenly in half has no mainstream! He is just trying to paint himself as for every man, when we know that he is just a con.

-6 ( +12 / -18 )

will they be bringing the tooth-fairy and santa claus into their speeches as well?

6 ( +10 / -4 )

Democrats appeasing republicans (again) is not a very good message to send to the public right before an election.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

you would think that there are far more serious issues confronting both the Democrats and Republicans than God and Israel.....
