An opening video at the 2012 Democratic National Convention has this statement that pretty well says it all about the philosophy of the Democrats these days: “The Government is the only thing we all belong to” like the Constitution begins with "We the government" not "We the people." This is unreal. Actually, no. It doesn't belong to us, we belong to it. The founders must be rolling in their graves.

All the dems have to do is stick to the facts, which the republicans failed to do last week...

I agree. Fact #1: 8.3% and rising unemployment rate (never below 8%) Fact #2: US total Debt hits $16 trillion debt as of start of Dem Convention - up from $10 trillion in 2008. Fact #3: Energy prices near all time highs. Fact #4: Highest number of people on food stamps in US history. Fact #5: Poverty rates highest since 1960's. Fact #6: Total employed down from 62.7% of adult population in 2008 to 58.5% in 2012. Fact #7: Black unemployment rate 14.4%. Fact #8: Underemployment (U-6) rate up from 9.2% on Jan 2009 to 15% today.

That facts are not much good for Obama so prepare to watch the talking heads at the Dem Convention avoid them like the plague.

@bass

please try and find a more middle of the road center report, which will be very challenging since most 98% are overly liberal.

Seems to me that the human race is "overly liberal" in your opinion. Not much you can do about that : ) Move to Mars, maybe?

4 ( +5 / -1 )

The source of your information is a Mr. Ezra Klein of the Washington Post who is nothing more than a left wing hack pretending he's a journalist.

Sailwind, you are entitled to your opinion; it may well be true.

You are not entitled to your own facts. Those that Klein pointed out are widely available and irrefutable: New spending by Obama is not the cause of the soaring deficit.

Bush's legacy continues - and the GOP refuses to help rectify it. They do not care about the deficit in reality; they are pushing the same agenda they've had for 20 years, the Norquist agenda. That is what Romney is running on; Obama is running on common-sense, moderate solutions.

National Debt, GWB takes office, Jan. 2001: $0 $230 Billion SURPLUS

National Debt, GWB leaves office Jan 2009:+ $10.6 Trillion

$10.83 trillion in 8 years

WMR supporters must love debt because they want to go back to GWB era debt-creating taxes.

still blaming Bush - this is really getting old.

Yes, still blaming Bush. You think that the damage done by his laissez-faire idiot mismanagement of the economy is going to disappear in four years? It's going to be a long while yet....

3 ( +8 / -5 )

Posters on this board who object to placing due blame on the previous president for present problems might want to take their message to the broader populace: The majority of Americans continue to assign majority responsibility to Bush.

Also, unfortunately the choice is not between the present tenuous situation and Pollyanna; it is between the present tenuous situation and the far worse situations of Spain or Ireland. Interesting how the "A-word" (austerity) - so popular amongst the right just a year ago! - was not mentioned once at the GOP convention. Bush was hugely responsible for driving the economy into a ditch, and the Republican Congress has been hugely responsible for government's delayed efforts to get us out.

Whine all you want about the dismal statistics: they belong to the GOP, and without Obama and his congressional allies, things would be a whole, whole lot worse. This is why Romney will lose in November and the GOP will fail to capture the Senate.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Yeah, caring for debilitated vets is hilarious, isn't it, Serrano? And it isn't that those expenses are continuing - it is that funds to pay for the wars were borrowed; the largest percentage of the deficit Republicans blame on Obama is for paying down the profligacy of Bush. And that will not end anytime soon:

By 2019, we estimate that these two policies ( tax cuts and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan) will account for almost half — nearly $10 trillion — of the $20 trillion in debt that will be owed under current policies.

http://www.cbpp.org/cms/?fa=view&id=3490

You see, Obama has not added any long-term spending to the Federal budget aside from the relatively insignificant borrowing due to the stimulus (which itself was short-term, unlike Bush's tax cuts). Spin it all you'd like, but yes, the mess left by the GOP will take DECADES to fix.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Didn't watch the whole speech, but what I saw was great. She's a class act. The Obama's will be a hard act to follow.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

If you have any evidence that Gov.Romney has done anything illegal, then present it.

Oh, no, he's followed the law to the letter - except that the NY State AG has opened an investigation into taxation tactics used by Bain and other companies because the letter of the law does not always follow the spirit. Frugality is a virtue - "He throws nickles around like manhole covers" being a compliment and all that - but Romney's aggressive avoidance of taxation, while not illegal, is nothing to be proud of.

...if you are looking for a politician that hasn't flip-flopped, you are going to be looking for a looooooong time.

There is evolution of belief, and then there is flip-flopping. Give me a list of positions Obama held ten years ago that he doesn't hold now and you'd struggle to fill a handful; for Romney, the cup truly runneth over - pretty much everything is now topsy-turvey compared to his Massachusetts days.

I don't think the Obamas want to get into a character comparison with the Romneys.

I am sure that he doesn't - not that he wouldn't compare badly. Outside of his contribution to his church (admirable as it may be), what has he done? Obama's work as a "community organizer" is derided by the right, but that too was a form of public service - it was just not religiously proscribed nor religiously oriented. If the Norquist wing of the GOP had their way, the only aid available to Americans would be through their church. That is a great incentive to believe.

I don't see any evidence of self discipline in the current administration.

You obviously are not paying attention. I and many other posters have posted data showing how restrained in new spending Obama has been. The data in no way backs up your assertion.

I have no doubt that Romney is a gentleman. He unfortunately has gotten himself involved in a situation where he is incapable of acting in the way befitting his character. A vote for Romney is not a vote for Romney; it is a vote for the reactive faction which controls the House. That is the sad truth.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

"The reason Romney prefers to keep his private financial data private is that he doesnt want to give the braying hounds of the left any more reasons to demagogue him."

Heh, Sailwind's already tried "the media will be mean to him" excuse and failed just as you have.

Face it - the information in those tax returns is more damaging than the fallout from not releasing them otherwise he'd have done it.

I think Harry Reid's claims that Romney hasn't paid any tax are probably far fetched, but I'm betting Mr Romney REAMED the financial meltdown and paid a much lower tax rate than those Americans struggling right now.

Business is business and that world I understand. People not affected with partisan delusion want transparency fromm their politicians. Romney refuses this transparency, therefore all the attacks on his offshore hoarding, whether true or not, are fair game on the man.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

@ Wolfpack, yes while things have not gotten better, they have not gotten worse either. Compared to the whole planet, one may consider that progress. The whole mess now is comprised of both sides fighting and nothing getting done. Sad.

@bass

...my father who is an Ultra-Conservative did what he could to help my mom succeed and most of her employees 45 of them 32 of them are women, so you are way off, please stop misrepresenting conservatives on the woman's right and economic issues.

But your confusing your own family's admirable attitude towards women's rights with the significant number of Republican cavemen who want to go back to the 50s, or mediaeval times. Your own, individual experience does nothing to atone for those people.

bass4funk,

if you call ABC as liberals as well as NBC, CBS, CNN, CSPAN, ESPN, NPR. Then you have one choice: Keep watching FOX NEWS, Rush Limbaugh, Cuttler. I have no problem. It is your choice and It is your loss, not mine. We, Americans will be moving forward without you..

Comparing the DNC to the RNC,

the Dems are outgunning the Republicans in substance

outgunning them in style, and

outsmarting them in intelligence.

And Obama hasn't even spoken yet.

November will be lights out for the GOP.

Putting the champagne in the cooler today. :-)

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Michelle Obama gave a very good speech. Interesting, well delivered, and a good attempt at re-introducing Barack Obama v.2008 to the public. It is refreshing to have two good families in the running for the White House.

What I HAVE noticed is that, at least at JT, Obama supporters tend to argue from emotion and hyperbole, and those who want change use numbers and facts. Damn stubborn things, numbers. The exaggeration of the economic is hilarious. Comparing the current blip to the Great Depression is laughable. Claiming that Romney, due to his wealth, is not qualified to be president, is laughable. Would you say the same thing about JFK or FDR, both extremely wealthy men?

The President promised 6% unemployment and to halve the deficit. Both were broken, and for that alone he needs to be added to the list of presidents who make even better ex-presidents.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Expose Romney for what he REALLY is! He's a lying, deceptive, habitual flip flopper who will say ANYTHING to win. Watch this video carefully and watch Mitt literally squirm as Ted Kennedy schools him on being more transparent with the American public -a lesson he has STILL yet to learn.

http://t.co/YgHL7g77

2 ( +4 / -2 )

If that is the question, Elbuda, then Obama loses. Mitt Romney, through decades of private charity, made a difference to untold numbers of people.

You forget that for all of Michelle's "poor us" rhetoric in her speech, Barack was raised in privilege and luxury. He lived with a bank vice president, attended a very expensive private school, and was afforded advantages that very few ordinary Americans enjoy. He and Michelle are millionaires, and good for them. Ditto for the Romneys.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Like I said before, politicians flip-flop and blow whichever way the wind goes, and wherever they can pander to get more votes. We can spend the evening trading jabs about them, but to what purpose? Both are good men, intelligent men, and also pragmatic enough to tailor their views to fit the needs of a particular political situation.

Now, back to the real issues: 16 trillion dollars of debt, unsustainable social programmes, the lowest participation in thw workforce in recent memory, and continued trampling of civil liberties. For me, the latter is the most shocking. Above all else, I expected Pres. Obama to reverse or at least slow down the worst excesses of the Patriot Act, and not to hide behind "national security" to excuse assassination and murder. I was wrong. He's the worst of both worlds; a neo-con in foreign policy and a tax/spend liberal at home.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Change doesn't just take time, it takes the right policies and incentives. Government, in general, is lousy at providing either. Bush lite and Obama have both expanded the role of government and when you toss in amoral and unregulated financial cretins here we are. Has Obama put any bankers in jail? Put teeth into the SEC? Gotten any of his policies through when the Dems had control of House, Senate, and Presidency? Well, there's "Obamacare" but that's really just a transfer of wealth that does nothing to reign in the costs of health care - the insurance and drugs companies won't stand for that and Obama is too weak to force the issue. Gitmo is still open. Afghanistan is pretty much a failed effort now. Manufacturing is down for the third straight month in the US.

Epic fail. Just epic. The only mistake that Obama hasn't made that Bush did was start an unnecessary war.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

@Alphaape, this statement confirmed to me you are not in the "Red" state. I believe you are doing just fine and I am glad for you.

@globalwatcher: I do have a residence in a red state. As I have said, there has not been any active planning by the GOP to repeal the 14th Amendment. There has been talk about not granting automatic citizenship to people who are born in America who are not citizens, and I actually agree with that. That is not denying anyone who is currently an American any of their civil rights. The civil rights of Americans only apply to those who are lawful American citizents. If that weren't the case, then whenver an American (or person from any other country in the world) traveled to another place, they would assume that the laws in their host country apply to them in the country they are visiting, and it doesn't work that way.

People coming to America illegally to have children so that they can stay and get welfare benefits is just wrong, and taking away from those poor in America who are citizens and may need assistance.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Heh, conservatives are already trying to spin their way out of the fact that their RNC was a fact-free disaster.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

In stark contrast, a GOP win will ensure America steams forward proudly and with boldness straight back to the 16th century.

1 ( +6 / -5 )

@Sushi

Your posts keep harping the same mantra of "women's right being threatened", every time, you need to stop repeating yourself. Republicans are NOT against women's rights, not at all that is a flat out lie, a total ruse! Don't confuse with Repubs stance on Pro-life and equate that, they want to ball and chain women, that is an absolute wash. I don't have a single Conservative friend that wants a woman's right taken away. My mom built an Empire corp. But my father who is an Ultra-Conservative did what he could to help my mom succeed and most of her employees 45 of them 32 of them are women, so you are way off, please stop misrepresenting conservatives on the woman's right and economic issues. Because I too, am for women's rights 100% and I and conservatives can do that being Pro-Life.

1 ( +8 / -7 )

Do you think 'We the people' refers to all humans across the globe? Of course it refers to a political unity of American people, whose political identities are represented by a system of government, including a federal one.

Democrats also like to use the term “global community” as the domain of the UN, world court, etc. So I guess the US government isn’t the only thing we all belong to, from their perspective. And it is important to be honest about the ways words are used by others. I do get from context and common sense it was a kind of clunky way of saying that government is the only thing in which we all have a stake at some level, that a relationship with it is the only thing that we all share. But the fact that this statement made it all the way from the script writing to final video without anybody realizing how bad it sounds shows you how ingrained into the brains of liberals this creepy propaganda is. It’s second nature to them. The president simply equates "doing things together" as he puts it with doing things through government. He basically sees the citizen and the state, and nothing in between.

Or does it mean I belong to the government as in to be a part of on the membership roll, like I belong to my church? Yes, we belong to ("participate in") the government in that by voting and writing and talking to our representatives, we as citizens are part of government. But we don't "belong" to the government even in the way this video intones. I'm not a "member" of any government body. Even civil servants under the employ of a government agency would not argue every citizen belonging is an American value superior to love for liberty and freedom, shared belief in individualism and equality etc.

worked in the industry and NBC for more than 12 years, please don't even go there, just leave that one alone. I know EXACTLY who is full of it, who is fair and who is off the charts. You do not speak for all Americans, liberal, conservative and independents. ABC is very left-leaning, they try, really try to be center, they are NOT off the wall crazy liberal, but still there is a slight bias. That is all that I am saying, so please try and find a more middle of the road center report, which will be very challenging since most 98% are overly liberal. FYI

@bass4funk, then why don't you work for FOX?

The true career commitment in journalism is a fact finding and conveying the truth to the public. Nothing else.

I watched her speech and thought she did an excellent job pointing out the deep differences in character, background, and values between her husband and Mr. Romney, although she never mentioned Mr. Romney by name. It was a great speech. I'm looking forward to watching Mr. Clinton's speech as well. I think one of Mr. Romney's biggest problems is that he was born on third base and thinks he hit a triple. Mr. Romney will never be able to understand the vast majority of Americans and their struggles to achieve a decent life for themselves and their children.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Serrano - "Heck, it's going to take DECADES to fix the mess left by Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld"

That's the most accurate post you've ever made in the last decade!

Congrats! And BTW, when are you joining the Democrat Party? :-))

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Madverts: If you have any evidence that Gov.Romney has done anything illegal, then present it. Give it to the IRS. Otherwise, you are just joining the Demagogue Gang and parroting their empty speculation. Another distraction tactic. Plus, if you are looking for a politician that hasn't flip-flopped, you are going to be looking for a looooooong time. Take President Obama and his position on same sex marriage, for instance...

Globalwatcher, I don't think the Obamas want to get into a character comparison with the Romneys. They, frankly, would lose. Mitt Romney has a decades long history of private charity and community service that few people can match. He's just not made it public, and prefers to do his good works out of the spotlight.

Oh, and good work sorting out your life. It's a great example for your kids and your community. It's a pity the government refuses to do the same thing. I'm sure that every time you borrowed money, you had a schedule to pay it back. Obama doesn't. He plans to pass the bill to your kids/grandkids. I don't see any evidence of self discipline in the current administration. I only see overspending, broken promises, and under-performance.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

VRWC,

"Madverts: If you have any evidence that Gov.Romney has done anything illegal, then present it. "

I haven't suggested he's done anything illegal. The fact Romney refuses to succumb to a tradition started by his own father suggests the contents of his tax returns would enrage Americans finding it hard to get by. You seem an intelligent bloke, I'm not sure why any person would defend this tiny elites' "privilege" to twist the tax codes to better hoard their massive wealth (especially offshore).

"Otherwise, you are just joining the Demagogue Gang and parroting their empty speculation. Another distraction tactic." Rubbish - it is Romney that is fuelling the speculation.

"Plus, if you are looking for a politician that hasn't flip-flopped, you are going to be looking for a looooooong time. Take President Obama and his position on same sex marriage, for instance..."

Obama's stance on gay marriage is admirable in an election year. Romney's list of flip-flops on a multitude of issues have become a flip-flopping folklore in US politics. Sorry 'bout that.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

The reason Romney prefers to keep his private financial data private is that he doesnt want to give the braying hounds of the left any more reasons to demagogue him.

You are effectively stating that whatever are in those returns that he doesn't want the public to see, will end his career as a politician and kill this election for him. If he has nothing to hide, then he should show everyone his taxes.

"the weak U.S. economy"

And still we have thousands of people trying to enter and stay in the U.S. to live.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I knew from the beginning of the elections between McCain and Obama that it may take decades for the US economy to recover no matter which president was elected. The first lady isn't really telling anything new, but some groups of people expected a magic wand to be waved and all our troubles to be solved in a year or less. Talk about living in a fantasy land, but this is what we get in a "NOW" society.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

But she was talking about his other policies, so then, why she couldn't make a reference of the economy? Of course she could. It's because she knows that is the worst area Obama and the Dems want to slither by.

bass4funk, historically a wife of President or presidential candidate does not talk about policies. Did Ann talk about her husband plan? No she did not. Did Romney talk about his plan in his speech? No, he did not.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I have to agree. A president who can't even get his agenda through congress when his own party controls congress has such a lack of leadership that it boggles the mind. The economic policies focus far too much on government control and not enough on freeing small businesses. Obamacare adds even more burden on small business, but they are the ones who will pull the economy up by the bootstraps. Obama believes in government handing people things. Americans would, I think, like to be responsible for their own futures. If Obama used the government to reign in the bankers and other people who are getting rich on the backs of others ala Teddy Roosevelt then that would work for me. But this idea that government is the solution is just wrong.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

It takes a 2/3 of states ratification to overturn the interpretation of the 14th Amendment. Many states have been introducing many legislations of Anti Civil Rights bill recently. FYI

@ globalwatcher: Never have heard of any movement of the GOP to roll back the 14th Amendment, so I am not sure where you got that information from. By the way, 80% of no votes in Senate for 1964 Civil RIghts act came from Dems (from Senators like GOre's father and the late Sen Byrd). Rep votes were essential in winning final passage of the Bill. So I don't think that the GOP is out to deny people their civil rights.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I agree Obama has used the government and expanded its role to support his twisted ideas and ideals. I am very eager to see him out of office and anyone else come in.

0 ( +10 / -10 )

@Lizz--I don't understand what your point is. A Democrat stated that 'government is the only thing we all belong to'. So what? Isn't that true (besides being members of the human race) in that Americans are at least somewhat united in a political entity in which they are also participants? Americans are not all members of the same local community, hunting club, church, Boy Scout troop, etc. The statement was made to counter the tea party / libertarian hysteria about the government's role in almost anything (except law & order, military spending, and moral dictating).

Remember, this is an election for government representatives, including head of state.

The president simply equates "doing things together" as he puts it with doing things through government. He basically sees the citizen and the state, and nothing in between.

Is that why he started out as a community organizer (something that is often derided by the right)?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

If Obama were a good president -- one that has done a lot of good for our country -- you would think that he need not campaign for re-election for the past 2 1/2 years.

You must remember he has to deal with an electorate half of whom thought it was a good idea to give Baby Bush two terms.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Again I implore you to read up for your own sake because ignorance is really not something to be proud of. This is what keeps countries from progressing and people in the stone age. Knowledge is power, and facts are stubborn my friend.

Yes, That is why Liberals need to educate themselves and understand that a few fringe crazy radicals cannot speak for the whole Republican party. Yes, ignorance is bliss and knowledge is true power, which is more reason as to why Obama is the worst choice for our country. Facts are stubborn my friend.

Wat are you talking about? Do you not know that those are actually bills that have gone through congress on happening now? Please tell me that you're not that ignorant.

So you are saying that the taxpayer should foot the bill and Conservatives should just give up on their principles in order to sign those bills? That would never happen, like Obama would never cut spending, wise up.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

@bass4funk

that article was written by Thomas Sowell. Shall he take a look at what Sowell is all about:

advocates laissez-faire economics and writes from a conservative and libertarian perspective

Sowell compared President Barack Obama's actions to Adolf Hitler's in a June 2010 editorial for Investor's Business Daily titled "Is U.S. Now On Slippery Slope To Tyranny?"

Scholars generally believe a laissez-faire state or a completely free market has never existed.

Sowell quotes:

What the welfare system and other kinds of governmental programs are doing is paying people to fail. In so far as they fail, they receive the money; in so far as they succeed, even to a moderate extent, the money is taken away.

Thomas Sowell says we should pay every member of congress $10 million/yr.

*If we pay every member of congress $10 million dollars a year that would not increase the federal budget by one percent. Chances are that it would reduce the federal budget considerably, when members of the Senate or the House of Representatives no longer needed campaign contributions or the personal favors of special interest groups and their lobbyists.

One term in the Senate would bring in $60 million, which most people could live on for life, without being beholden to anybody and without having to seek a job afterwards for special interests, much less having to sell their soul to continue a political career. Members of Congress have not only trillions of dollars of our tax money in their hands, they also have in their hands our lives and the lives of our children and our nation. Are you going to worry about their incomes or about the caliber of people we can attract to make the monumental decisions that have to be made? Yes, it would be nice if all public officials were self-sacrificing individuals who had no other thought than doing their best for their country. In would also be nice if voters watched elected officials 24/7. But the best is the enemy of the good. The road to Utopia has repeatedly turned out to be the road to hell, in countries around the world.

* Yeah..sounds like a picture of perfect mental health...(sarcasm)

A Democrat stated that 'government is the only thing we all belong to'. So what? Isn't that true (besides being members of the human race) in that Americans are at least somewhat united in a political entity in which they are also participants?

Except that less than half of the country have a relationship to their government as productive, responsible, caring and contributing members of society. The other half quite obviously and literally"belong" to the government as wards of the state whether it is through non-voting or as unskilled, non taxpaying, (liabilities to the government), welfare recipients. These are professional wordsmiths writing this material. If they meant to say "We are a part of government because we participate in government," they would have written it that way, and said it that way. The fact that no Democrat saw the clip and screamed "We can't say 'belong', it sounds like we think that we own the voters rather than the other way around," speaks volumes about Democrats' attitude toward the citizens, in the same way that Obama's hostile, disdainful tone when saying "You didn't build that" speaks volumes about his attitude toward private business.

1)Losing the Civil Rights.

@globalwatcher: Which of my civil rights has the GOP said that they want to do away with? I seem to miss that point. If any civil rights have been lost, it has been done at the hands of Homeland Security, with their invasive inspections of people going through airports. I can understand screening people, but now some TSA agents are going through the gated areas and checking your drinks after you have already bought them. But remember, this is a "Big Sis" policy.

Hell no to that!!

Even civil servants under the employ of a government agency would not argue every citizen belonging is an American value superior to love for liberty and freedom, shared belief in individualism and equality etc.

Anybody understand this??

@lucabrasi, I am now scratching my head and trying to interpret what it means as well. Maybe it is coming from Russia?

TattooVampireSep. 05, 2012 - 12:42PM JST

For Barack, success isn’t about how much money you make, it is about the difference you make in peoples lives

NO $HIT...REALLY, WHAT KIND OF DIFFERENCE?

@TatooVampire, it translates "People should not be judged what you have accomplished ($$$) , instead should be judged "Who You Are". Moral character is a critical element in leadership. Politely, Michell was attacking Romney who changed his political position back and force. FYI

He was the guy whose proudest possession was a coffee table he had found in a dumpster, and whose only pair of decent shoes was a half size too small"

REALLY? INSTEAD OF TRYING TO FIND A JOB OR START A BUSINESS, HE SCAVENGED THRU JUNK?

Again, she was connecting to the Middle Americans stating that they used to be like them and they are still among them, She was connecting to the Middle Class Americans who are struggling today.

If you read her speech today, she was not offensive to Romney/Ryan, she covered everything she needed to say diplomatically and politely. She did not miss the beat. Job well done.

Change takes time eh? Nah, change is happening pretty fast. So far under this administration there have been a record number of deportations, a dramatic increase in the number of raids on dispenceries, an increase in the powers of the TSA, the premium on my insurance has gone up, and the US lost it's AAA credit rating.

1)Almost 800,000 jobs were lost before and right after Obama took office in 2008. Obama has created over 1.5 million jobs in the past 3.5 years that is more than what Bush did during his 8 years in the office.

Hard to get worse than rock bottom. The data is also shakey as to what sectors of the economy picked up those jobs and why. One of the driving reasons behind the return of many businesses is that the fuel costs of sending raw materials to china to be processed and sent back became unprofitable combined with the fact that US workers are willing to do more work for lower wages than they were a few years ago.

It's kind of like saying you jumped a hurdle after lowering it to an inch off the ground, technically it's a victory but it's not much to celebrate over. We're still riding the mid 8 percent range in unemployment.

2)American auto industry is out of recession today. They are now in full gears. Cars are selling.

The data behind the auto-bailouts is sketchy at best and even then I still strongly believe GM should have gone through restructuring. As it stands the can has been kicked down the road. The problems that led GM to bankruptcy are still there, festering under the bailout bandaid.

She did not miss the beat. Job well done.

Yes, she gave a good speech. Now here's something else I noticed. I don't see any 'conservative' posters making personal attacks on the first lady. A few people took issue with some of the things she said but I don't see any of the angry vitrolic statements that were aimed at Ann Romney when she spoke.

I recall her being called ignorant and an idiot. While others claimed she had no right to address the American public while leveling personal attacks which I find highly distasteful.

In the reality, whoever win the next presidential election, jobs losses from good old days will never come back to USA. The reasons are market has matured. The cost of running business are uncompetitve. Unless abolishing the minimum standard of wage, Labor and environmental regulation and Tax holidays to business, no firm will risk their bank balance.

There are some high end manufacturing can still exsist like making super quiet jet engine. So am offshore natural gas exploration! However there will be limited job opportunities from that sectors. They are highly skilled jobs and need many years of training for workers. China can not survive without soy beans therefore mid west farming industry is promising. However they needed to be more competitive because China economy is slowing too.

Higher and higher unemployment rate is unstoppable momentum because older people will rejoin the workforce due to lack of sufficient life time saving. Another factor is lack of consumer and business confidence. There will be limited business expansions for next four years. At the end, President of USA is not a God. They will give many promises before they get the jobs. However they have no money or capacity for fufilling their promises! George Bush Snr campained for re- election as "Read My Lips".

Yardley - "Mr. Romney will never be able to understand the vast majority of Americans and their struggles"

I disagree!

Whenever Mr. Romney experienced hardship, he always had to struggle to decide which one of his holiday homes to retire to,

What part of that difficult hardship can middle- and lower-class Americans not identify with??

LagunaSep. 05, 2012 - 04:27PM JST

@Laguna, thanks for the weblink listed above. This is a non biased Govt. stats. There will be no more objections from sailwind and Serrano..Bush Tax cuts and two wars by Bush are the big cause for this mess. I hope everyone reads the entire official report on this.

Great job, Laguna.

"Claiming that Romney, due to his wealth, is not qualified to be president, is laughable."

Of course, but you do realize that regarding his wealth he has refused to be transparent with the people he's hoping are going to vote for him on the tax returns and his lurky offshore dealings?

Then there's his proven track record of flip-flop after flip-flop on a wide range of issues, and of course the nail in the coffin for his willingness to sell out to the fundie right to get the nomination.

Neither do I agree that a successful businessman necessarily equates to being a good president or leader.

There will be no more objections from sailwind and Serrano..Bush Tax cuts and two wars by Bush are the big cause for this mess. I hope everyone reads the entire official report on this.

On your http://www.cbpp.org/cms/?fa=view&id=3490 link. You do understand that the CBPP is a liberal think tank.

The Tax Foundation think tank established in 1937 took a look at the CBPP report and concluded:

Conclusion

The CBPP has chosen a provocative set of budgetary items and policy alternatives which imply that projected deficits through 2021 are largely the result of the Bush-era tax cuts and the economic downturn. It is more instructive, however, to look at the bigger picture by reading the underlying CBO report[13] or perhaps trying a handy tool[14] from the New York Times, based in part on CBO data, which allow users to switch in and out various budgetary items to fill the deficit.

The CBO report gives us two critical facts which should form the basis of any future budget debate:

1) Tax revenues have fluctuated largely with the economy, dropping precipitously in the aftermath of the 2008 recession, but are projected to remain close to historical norms with or without expiration of the Bush tax cuts in 2012.

2) Entitlement spending has roughly doubled in the last 40 years as a percentage of GDP and is projected to remain there through 2021, pushing total spending well above any historical precedent. Thus, the CBO projects deficits as far as the eye can see.

Should we blame Bush (or rather, all that happened during his presidency) for this? In a sense, yes, but not for the reason the CBPP would have us believe; the role of Bush-era policies in the projected deficits is mainly on the spending side of the equation, not the tax side.

However, only the future can be changed, and to paraphrase the CBO, if we are to reduce the deficit we must either accept an unprecedented level of taxation or significantly reduce projected growth in spending.

all of volunteers will be watching on TV together

Well, not all. Some will be busy with driving in all the students and people from black churches to try and fill the stadium and hype it up. And some of you will be busy hitting twitter etc to try and build up more hype about..what was it? Oh yeah, hope and change and yes we can and all that.

of course, we will put pants on"

Why? Because its says so in the "Grass Roots Campaign for Obama" manual? Good for you.

@yasukuni, totally you misunderstood the content of my post. We are offering driving services if they are willing to joint us, but most voters want to watch Obama's speech on Thursday at 8 pm after long days of work (midweek) and want to be left alone at home. And we understand and respect that. We have a specal website for people to register for the gathering. If they have no transportations, we will pick them up on Thursday. The system is already in place. We were providing transportations when Obama was here three weeks ago, and we will provide transportations on election day who are in need. Over 500 volunteers are driving their cars as of today. We are ready.

What I meant was volunteers do not have to do a door to door campaign. Some volunteers still make telephone call campaign. Some seniors and women with little children prefer this function in campaign. Any problem with that, yasukuni?

And I say all of this tonight not just as First Lady...and not just as a wife.

You see, at the end of the day, my most important title is still "mom-in-chief."

My daughters are still the heart of my heart and the center of my world.

But today, I have none of those worries from four years ago about whether Barack and I were doing what's best for our girls.

and we must once again come together and stand together for the man we can trust to keep moving this great country forward, my husband, "

For a minute I forgot what country this is. Hear that Grass Roots Campaigners? Being American is all about standing together for The Man? Maybe they can make an Obama song?

Americans don't need to stand together for a President. In their best days they stood together for their families and for each other.

@yasukuni, you and Michell are saying the same. I am pasting her end of speech last night as listed below:

And I say all of this tonight not just as First Lady...and not just as a wife. You see, at the end of the day, my most important title is still "mom-in-chief." My daughters are still the heart of my heart and the center of my world. But today, I have none of those worries from four years ago about whether Barack and I were doing what's best for our girls.

Because today, I know from experience that if I truly want to leave a better world for my daughters, and all our sons and daughters...if we want to give all our children a foundation for their dreams and opportunities worthy of their promise...if we want to give them that sense of limitless possibility – that belief that here in America, there is always something better out there if you're willing to work for it...then we must work like never before...and we must once again come together and stand together for the man we can trust to keep moving this great country forward...my husband, our President, President Barack Obama.

@globalwatcher: Which of my civil rights has the GOP said that they want to do away with?

@Alphaape, sorry for delay.

The best answer is to contact your local congressional district office or Senator. I do not know where you live, so I cannot answer to your question. It takes a 2/3 of states ratification to overturn the interpretation of the 14th Amendment. Many states have been introducing many legislations of Anti Civil Rights bill recently. FYI

historically a wife of President or presidential candidate does not talk about policies. Did Ann talk about her husband plan? No she did not. Did Romney talk about his plan in his speech? No, he did not.

I am aware of that, because Obama didn't talk about any specifics about what he will do to the faltering economy, maybe Michelle should elaborate, since he won't.

@global

Oh, I will! This should be very, very interesting. I would have more respect for Obama, if he would admit and apologize for not doing the best he could, but everyone knows Obama has a huge ego problem, that's his problem. The man needs to be humble.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

@globalwatcher:

We are doing a lot better today than what it was since Obama took office in Washington 3.5 years ago.

Tell that to the millions of Americans still out of work.

Dems just keep making excuses for the failure of their policies. When Reagan was elected he faced an economic disaster that he inherited from a Dem President and Dem Congress. The unemployment rate was higher, that was the devilish problem of stagflation, and interests rates in the double digits. Reagan took responsibility for the economy and began the largest economic expansion in post-war history. Unemployment plunged and the trajectory was downward.

Obama's record is different. He passed a huge stimulus program and expansion of government that has resulted in the fastest accumulation of Federal debt in US history. The recession ended in the Summer just 5 months after he took office and before any of his policies could have any affect on the economy. He essentially did nothing to help the recovery - and has done everything to prevent the typical bounce back in GDP that normally follows a deep recession.

All Obama has is excuses. He takes no responsibility for anything - that's not leadership - that's passing the buck and a failure of leadership. America is tired of hearing what everyone else has done - but want to hear what he has done to help the economy. The reason for his silence on economic issues is that he has done nothing - he has failed.

America is going through it's third 'Recovery Summer' without a recovery to speak of.

Obama is a failure and he must go - for the sake of America's future. Come on Liberals, think of "the children"! How much debt and lack of opportunity should they be expected to shoulder?

@globalwatcher:

bass4funk, he has not said anything yet. He will do that tomorrow. He will deliver his clear vision of America and American people. Stay tuned.

We've already seen Obama's vision for the future. It's trillion dollar per year budget deficits and structurally high unemployment for as far as the eye can see. He will still have at least one Republican chamber of course and very likely two. He has shown his inability to work with Congress. He couldn't even work with Congress when he had a Democrat super-majority. He still failed to pass an economic agenda that would lead the economy to recovery.

America cannot withstand another four years of Obama and his economic destruction.

@Wolfpack, Bill Clinton said enough more than what I could say. That's the reason I am for Obama. Please read it, it only takes 48 minutes to understand every issue in this election. Clinton did delivered it well. Do not close minded and I encourage you to read it.

Clinton gives a good speech but he also said that Obama should be carrying his bags instead of being president. Clinton gave a highly partisan and misleading speech - as he usually does. He is much more effective than Obama only because he doesn't use the constant straw men to assign some nefarious views to his opponent in order to make unfair attacks on them.

Politics is very serious and personal. Voters have relatives who are unemployed (walfare), no health insurance, no higher education access, sick families and disability,or they themselves are already in this mess.

Yes, politics has gotten so personal because it has come down to who controls the choices, liberty, and wealth of each individual person based on their class, gender, race, age, or some other demographic. America is not a free country under President Obama - though he is just the most controlling going back to Wilson.

The number of people working in America today is lower than at any time since the early 1980's - that is despite the much higher population. With so many people out of work, it is easy to see why there are many people with no health insurance, fewer higher education choices, and more on food stamps and public assistance than at any time in American history. Obama has had four years to turn the economy around and he has failed. FDR won a world war in less time! Heck, the recession even ended a mere six months into his term and well before his stimulus spending could affect the economy. Yet the recovery has been practically non-existent. His policies are wrong for the problems of the day and he is unable to adjust them as even Clinton was willing to do.

Well, stay open minded and good luck to your reading, Walfpack.

I am open minded to ideas that actually work. However, hasn't Obama's collectivist ideology been ill suited to the challenges of the current economic situation? Annual budget deficits of more than $1 trillion are unsustainable and are destructive to future economic growth prospects. If Obama's has been to to create a poor performing economy and growing poverty in order to justify greater government control of peoples income so he can distribute it to his favored constituencies, then he has been a success. If however, you define success as allowing all people to increase their wealth and ability to achieve their own hopes and dreams with the minimum of government coercion, then he has undeniably been a colossal failure.

We are sick and tired of the upstart pseudo President and his silly family trying to act Presidential. I was active in american Politics years ago and considered myself a liberal, but never in all my years have i seen a sorrier excuse for a president trying to rule the country like a little king using Executive Orders when he can't get his way by bullying Congress and the nation playing the race card over and over and by building his private army of "paid" voters by passing acts and orders directly against the will of the people clearly expressed on Immigration, and allowing illegal aliens to stay in the country and benefit from social services again against the will of the majority. I hope and pray that the Obamas get not ONE more day of our precious time and resources than they have already squandered. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

They do however take out of their taxpayer paid salaries more than $100 million this election to re-elect the Democrats who have hired more than 300,000 of them in the last six years that they have controlled the Congress. Globalwatcher,

The source of your information is a Mr. Ezra Klein of the Washington Post who is nothing more than a left wing hack pretending he's a journalist.

"I used to have political aspirations," Klein, a former campaigner for Howard Dean, told the Washington Monthly in 2004. "But over time, I found that I enjoy writing far more. More to the point, I think that the creation of a media environment that can sustain and propel progressivism is more important than any single elected official," he said. "The media is as effective and important an agent for change as the legislative bodies, and I think it's where I'm happiest and most effective."

I am happy that the Dems appear to be fully embracing "Obamacare" - even going so far as to refer to it as "Obamacare," which the Repubs first utilized pejoratively. It was a legislative triumph, and though it requires some serious tweaking (public option, etc.), it will eventually evolve into a pillar of American society equal to Medicare and Social Security.

It will also turn into a pillar of economic freedom as entrepreneurs find themselves freed from the necessity of big-company employment to obtain necessary insurance.

Republicans - who came up with the idea in the first place, let us not forget - have certainly found themselves on the wrong side of history here.

Globalwatcher, I don't think the Obamas want to get into a character comparison with the Romneys. They, frankly, would lose. Mitt Romney has a decades long history of private charity and community service that few people can match. He's just not made it public, and prefers to do his good works out of the spotlight.

Yes, a character becomes very important issue in leadership of this country. US is a country of Principals value and belief. US is a country of Law.

When Romney was a governor of Mass in 1994, he successfully introduced a state mandate health care for all people of Mass. He stood up for Anti Gun and Pro-Choice. Now 2012, he is against Obamacare and Gun Control and Pro-choice.

We voters want to know who he is, what he truly believes. We do not want to elect a president who understands the difference. Very simple.

Led by President of Obama, the troops of "Truth" will be marching into Wasington. We will be moving FORWARD, not back. That "Chair" has been already taken by Obama and Romney cannot take it over. Four More Years.Hope is still well alive for the Middle Class Americans..

Fact #9: DENIAL: Conservatives will never admit it was the guy they put into the WH not once but twice that put the economy in the tank.

Fact #10 TAKING RESPONSIBIKITY Conservatives.....no..., forget it.

-2 ( +6 / -8 )

@Walfpack, I am pasting a well summarized economic chart compiled among economists.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/ezra-klein/wp/2012/08/28/republican-national-convention-the-one-graph-you-need-to-see-before-watching/

ABC News tonight has suggested as listed below:

1)Almost 800,000 jobs were lost before and right after Obama took office in 2008. Obama has created over 1.5 million jobs in the past 3.5 years that is more than what Bush did during his 8 years in the office.

2)American auto industry is out of recession today. They are now in full gears. Cars are selling.

GM production is up more than 10% since Obama took office.

Ford production is up more than 16% since Obama took office.

Crysler production is uip more than 14% since Obama took office.

We are doing a lot better today than what it was since Obama took office in Washington 3.5 years ago.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

Wow, the opening day of the DNC, and the U.S. national debt hits $16T

How appropo

I guess it costs a lot to pay all those folks to go to Charlotte and put their lazy a$$es in those seats, not to mention the entitlement checks to pay for their suits and dresses and getting made up.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Hillary Clinton/Michelle Obama 2016!

Michelle nailed it, and nailed the GOP to the wall.

Fantastic speech.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

In stark contrast, a GOP win will ensure America steams forward proudly and with boldness straight back to the 16th century.

America was founded in 1776...

Republicans stayed on the offensive, criticizing Obama for telling a Colorado television reporter that he would give himself a grade of "incomplete" for his first term.

Do high schools give out diplomas after 4 years of study, for "incomplete" ?

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

"We are boots down to the ground and are conducting a door to door campaign in my state. I am one of them."

And I think the good folks of America need to be aware that all these thousands of people that the campaign mobilizes won't just be going from door to door, but will be going from website to website. So stay tuned for lots of propaganda (oops, I meant insightful, objective comments) on this site and others.

Here we go...

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Completely agree with SushiSake3! Mitt must have had a hell of a hard time trying to decide which country to open his offshore accounts in, not to mention how to invest his $250MM - stocks? bonds? derivatives? I'm sure every American can identify with that and kind of hardship. A Romney win will take the US back in time. Maybe that's why they brought in Clint Eastwood - to remind voters which era the Republicans want to take the US back to.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Mirai, that is the classic "prove you're innocent" argument that so often was used in despotic and criminal regimes. No, rather the onus is on those who accuse Romney to show evidence that he has done anything illegal, or to shut up about it. Now perhaps could we get back to the real issues?

Another Obama flip flop;

In 2008, he visited the Saddleback Church in Orange County, Calif., where the pastor Rick Warren asked him to define marriage. “I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman,” Mr. Obama said. “For me, as a Christian, it is also a sacred union.”

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Heh, you want to compare Obama's position changes with Romney's, Sailwind?

Bring it on, Romney's had more positions than one of Prince's "one night stands"

Happy to oblige:

Voted against increasing the debt limit; then supported raising it. Campaigned against the Bush tax cuts; then extended all of them. Promised to cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term; then proposed trillion dollar deficits. Vowed the unemployment rate would be below 8% if his stimulus was passed. Promised shovel ready jobs; then admitted they weren’t shovel ready. Promised to have health care negotiations on live TV, but then reversed himself. Kept Guantanamo Bay open. Voted against the Patriot Act, but then supported its extension. Said lobbyists wouldn’t work in the White House; then gave them waivers to work there.
-2 ( +2 / -4 )

His biggest Flip-Flop and it will be front and center during this Democratic Convention, was his once professed desire that he might extend the same presumption of good faith to others that a doctor once had extended to him in regards to opposing views on abortion.

From his book “The Audacity of Hope”:

Two days after I won the Democratic nomination in my U.S. senate race, i received an email from a doctor at the University of Chicago Medical School.

"Congratulations on your overwhelming and inspiring primary win," the doctor wrote. "I was happy to vote for you, and I will tell you that I am seriously considering voting for you in the general election. I write to express my concerns that may, in the end, prevent me from supporting you."

The reason the doctor was considering voting for my opponent was not my position on abortion as such. Rather, he had read an entry that my campaign had posted on my website, suggesting that I would fight "right-wing ideologues who want to take away a woman's right to choose." He went on to write: "Whatever your convictions, if you truly believe that those who oppose abortion are all ideologues driven by perverse desires to inflict suffering on women, then you, in my judgment, are not fair-minded. ... I do not ask at this point that you oppose abortion, only that you speak about this issue in fair-minded words."

I checked my website and found the offending words. They were not my own; my staff had posted them to summarize my pro-choice position during the Democratic primary

Rereading the doctor's letter, though, I felt a pang of shame.

The next day, I had the language on my website changed to state in clear but simple terms my pro-choice position. And that night, before I went to bed, I said a prayer of my own—that I might extend the same presumption of good faith to others that the doctor had extended to me.

@Mad

You didn't seem to mind this absence in Tampa.

Hmmm, the way Obama Never talked about the economy? There was a kind of hush today and, Oh, yeah, where was the debt clock?? It was absent, surely Obama would want to make that the first priority issue, but no....

What for? And besides, Willard does. Mitt dodged the Vietnam war in a palace in Bordeaux.

So when did Obama serve? Does he even know where France is, he did say, we have 57 states.

@Sushi

LOL! How about asking your guys.

They had zero ideas.

Obama has a lot of ideas as well, too bad they vast majority of them failed, like the Economy.

@global

The debt crisis and the solution were not in her speech as she is not a president of United States of America. French? You have lost me here, bass4funk. French.......hmmmm, any connection to Michell Obama?

But she was talking about his other policies, so then, why she couldn't make a reference of the economy? Of course she could. It's because she knows that is the worst area Obama and the Dems want to slither by.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

“Four years into a presidency and it’s incomplete? The president is asking people just to be patient with him?” Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan said on CBS’s “This Morning.”

With a hole the size of the one bush and the GOP dug for the current president, 'incomplete' is praiseworthy.

But expecting conservatives to take responsibility for their own epic failures is like expecting Romney/Ryan to tell the truth: never going to happen.

-3 ( +6 / -9 )

@Bass

Fetal personhood anti-abortion anti-contraception unequal pay for men and women employers right to dictate what a female employee's body

are just SOME of the republican initiatives that infringe on women's rights.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

If Obama were a good president -- one that has done a lot of good for our country -- you would think that he need not campaign for re-election for the past 2 1/2 years. A great president would just keep his nose to the grindstone and have one simple slogan for his re-election: "America, look how I have been working SO hard and acclomplished a lot for the good of our country, If you agree, then vote for me."

But noooo. Only thing he has accomplished was spending record amounts of taxpayer money, play record amounts of rounds of golf and pissing off record amounts of Americans. His "campaign" has mention zero of what he has accomplished (because there is nothing to mention) and can only whine and cry about his opponent.

Clint is right: We gotta let 'em go.

RR

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

if you call ABC as liberals as well as NBC, CBS, CNN, CSPAN, ESPN, NPR. Then you have one choice: Keep watching FOX NEWS, Rush Limbaugh, Cuttler. I have no problem. It is your choice and It is your loss, not mine. We, Americans will be moving forward without you..

You mean liberal Americans

I worked in the industry and NBC for more than 12 years, please don't even go there, just leave that one alone. FYI

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Funniest line of the night was when she said her hubby doesn't believe in "us versus them."

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

"the Dems are outgunning the Republicans in substance"

Hee hee!

Heck, it's going to take DECADES to fix the mess left by Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld - Michelle and Barack are just getting started!

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

To democrats "a war on women" means you oppose abortion the day before the baby is born, perhaps even after labor starts, and be against free birth control for all even the rich.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Madverts. The reason Romney prefers to keep his private financial data private is that he doesnt want to give the braying hounds of the left any more reasons to demagogue him. He didn't write the tax code. Of course he and his accountant took advantage of whatever was available- he'd be a fool not to. Again, it's a side issue in the big picture of hte campaign. The economy and the failed efforts of President Obama to help the situation are more important.

Obama's stance on gay marriage was dragged from him by his gaffe-machine VP, Joe Biden. He would have preferred to maintain his silence on the issue until after the election. The reason that Obama has less flip-flops is that he entered the presidency with a woefully thin resume. Two years in the Senate, plus................... You could also cite his "evolving position" on closing Guantanamo Bay, funding for NASA, the Patriot Act, extending the Bush tax cuts, etc. He has an impressive list of flip flops for a man with such little political experience.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

"all of volunteers will be watching on TV together"

Well, not all. Some will be busy with driving in all the students and people from black churches to try and fill the stadium and hype it up. And some of you will be busy hitting twitter etc to try and build up more hype about..what was it? Oh yeah, hope and change and yes we can and all that.

"of course, we will put pants on"

Why? Because its says so in the "Grass Roots Campaign for Obama" manual? Good for you.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

"and we must once again come together and stand together for the man we can trust to keep moving this great country forward, my husband, "

For a minute I forgot what country this is. Hear that Grass Roots Campaigners? Being American is all about standing together for The Man? Maybe they can make an Obama song?

Americans don't need to stand together for a President. In their best days they stood together for their families and for each other.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

I assumed the last thing Obama would say was "Four more years of this!!"

I expected to hear attack after attack on Romney and nothing else.

His first term has been a failure but I still think he will be re-elected. Dear Lord I hope his second term is nothing short of spectacular.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Pretty amazing - the RNC was little more than a Get To Know Mitt convention

Mitt's been running for president for , what - 8 years?

And the voters STILL don't know him??

That'd be because Mitt's held every possible position on every major issue on the political map.

So many RNC convention speakers were describing Mitt to the people that they ran out of time to outline the policies they haven't drafted and ideas they don't have to fix the economy.

Thanks to that monumental balls up, Obama and the Dems can now define to the American people what GOP policies really are.

They won't be pretty.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

@Tatanka

Of course, they have NOTHING ELSE to run on, so the ONLY thing that they CAN do is run against Bush again (ROFL) that is their only hope. So if I were a desperate Dem at this point and time, I would do the same. Blaming Bush is easy, can help Obama slip out the back door, "oops, gotta feed the cat!"

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

@Mirai

ROFL You need to stop reading Daily Kos and Think Progress, really, it's starting to get scary. These people are off the chart, but seriously, you are better off reading something quality.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

But your confusing your own family's admirable attitude towards women's rights with the significant number of Republican cavemen who want to go back to the 50s, or mediaeval times. Your own, individual experience does nothing to atone for those people.

No, you are right, but having campaigned with Republicans and knowing the Republican party, I know for a fact that what many liberals THINK, it is NOT true, they are totally convoluting the Republican message and mantra is and that they represent women's right, even though they are mostly PRO-Life, don't confuse the issue.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

@mirai

spin spin spin, BHO has the entitlement check sent to you

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-57400369-503544/national-debt-has-increased-more-under-obama-than-under-bush/

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

There is no doubt Michelle is a very good speaker, much better than her husband. I don't like her habits of spending tens of millions of tax dollars on shopping trips and vacations, but that doesn't take away from the impact of the speech.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Comparing the DNC to the RNC,

the Dems are outgunning the Republicans in substance

outgunning them in style, and

outsmarting them in intelligence.

And Obama hasn't even spoken yet.

November will be lights out for the GOP.

Putting the champagne in the cooler today. :-)

You know what they say about over confidence, right? ;-)

Vast Right-Wing ConspiratorSep. 05, 2012 - 06:01PM JST

The President promised 6% unemployment and to halve the deficit. Both were broken, and for that alone he needs to be added to the list of presidents who make even better ex-presidents

@Vast, I am retired comfortably after 45 years of career in Public and Private sectors. I am debt free. I paid off my two mortgages, paid off my cars and kids, credit cards. But it took many years of self deciplines to achieve this goal. It takes time. FOUR MORE YEARS. We are moving FORWARD, not back.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

YardleySep. 05, 2012 - 03:32PM JST

I watched her speech and thought she did an excellent job pointing out the deep differences in character, background, and values between her husband and Mr. Romney, although she never mentioned Mr. Romney by name

@Yardley, did you notice that too? Michell has a class and she is smart. . She never mentioned Mr. Romney by name, but if we paid attention to her speech very carefully, she was politely attacking Mr. Romney. Great job.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Mrs. Obama should run for president. She is MUCH smarter than her husband and can actually make a passionate speech...

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Give me a list of positions Obama held ten years ago that he doesn't hold now

Here's one from 2008:

“The problem is that the way Bush has done it over the last eight years is to take out a credit card from the Bank of China in the name of our children, driving up our national debt from $5 trillion for the first 42 presidents,” Obama said in Fargo, N.D. “Number 43 added $4 trillion by his lonesome, so that we now have over $9 trillion of debt that we are going to have to pay back — $30,000 for every man, woman and child. That’s irresponsible. It’s unpatriotic.”

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

Mirai

Sounds Socialist to me, next..

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

You are not entitled to your own facts. Those that Klein pointed out are widely available and irrefutable: New spending by Obama is not the cause of the soaring deficit.

I should be entitled to objective facts instead of regurgated liberal spin from a liberal think tank that Mr. Klein uses to bolster his "facts". So that I can make an objective unbiased informed decision for myself. That used to be the job of journalism The source of economic graph that Klein uses you call irrefutable is from The Center for Budget and Policy .

Even his own paper calls them........

As Ezra put it, “It’s pretty much exactly what I’d expect a Blue Dog Democrat to propose.” For that reasons, left-leaning groups such as the Center for Budget and Policy Priorities pilloried the plan.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/ezra-klein/wp/2012/08/11/paul-ryans-non-budget-policy-record-in-one-post/

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

Wow, everyone who are with Obama, the polls are now changing. Obama is leading the race. Americans want to give 4 more years to Obama!! Yes, together we can move FORWARD, not back!! FOUR MORE YEARS!!

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/mood_of_america/generic_congressional_ballot

Let's NOT cut the cake just yet.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

First day of the DNC, NOT ANY talk about how to resolve the debt crisis, people were are the specifics, let's see what debacle the next two will bring. Hope I don't need to brush up on my French, been a bit rusty.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Well, get ready to hear Liberals spin of all spin of biblical proportions. LOL

-6 ( +5 / -11 )

I just want to let you know that the Democratic campaign received over 500,000 nationwide volunteers signed up for Obama. Finally the Middle Class Americans realized the urgency and want to get involved. This is the biggest grass root campaign conducted in US history.

The Middle Class Americans are now facing at threats of losing our rights.

They are:

1)Losing the Civil Rights.

2)Losing Voting Rights

3)Losing Pro-Choice

4)Losing College Funds

5)Losing Equal Pay Rithts

6)Losing Medicare and SSI

Therefore this is a race between the Glass Root Middle Class American Campaign vs $1 Billion Dollar The Riches Money (PAC) campaign..

We are boots down to the ground and are conducting a door to door campaign in my state. I am one of them.

Please join our Grass Root Campaign for OBAMA and let's make a difference in election. Let's say "NO" to Karl Rove and the Koch Brothers..We are not giving up our rights to the Riches.

Together, we can move FORWARD.

-6 ( +5 / -11 )

And conservative history buffs could be up for a real treat - if their Mitt wins, America's women's rights will be plunged right back to the 1st century AD from whence the core thInking behind their pro-life/anti-women's rights agenda was born.

Tremendous!

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

Very, very true.

Why is it that the Dems don't have the National Debt Clock hanging at their convention, surely the debt is of great concern for our President that is TRYING to get us out of the mess that he was trying to get us out of 4 years ago. Again, let the Dems run from the economy and talk about and dance around issues that ARE NOT 1st priority, but I love it, I'm on my second half of popcorn! lol

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

@cleo

You must remember he has to deal with an electorate half of whom thought it was a good idea to give Baby Bush two terms.

Who had an unemployment rate of 4.7%, yes, the last year of his admin, the economy started to tank, Obama came in at 7.3% unemployment and now... IT went up 8.3% and is climbing, CLIMBING! So NO, it's not a good idea. But we just have to let them decide.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

@globalwatcher

BHO was once a heavy marijuana RECREATIONAL user, not to mention cocaine. Is this morally strong?

"she was connecting to the Middle Americans stating that they used to be like them and they are still among them, She was connecting to the Middle Class Americans who are struggling today."

Really? Shopping sprees and vacations on taxpayer money, how do struggling middle class families identify with that?

MO was supposed to give such a classy speech. Why wouldn't she be diplomatic or full of class.

All I know is, a couple close friends are seriously considering closing their businesses due to BHO's policies. And both are in service businesses, to help others improve their lives.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

“For Barack, success isn’t about how much money you make, it’s about the difference you make in people’s lives,” This, in a nutshell, is what scares the hell out of them Republicans! They are scratching their heads and saying, WTF?? What do you mean we can not bribe $$$$ that Obama guy?? This is what America and the entire world need the most, less corruption and more honest politicians who actually do want to make a change for the better in this world.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

All the polls show we are absolutely NOT doing better under this President. When will Obama talk about the stagnant economy, when will Obama make the economy the first and last main objective and get America back on its feet? When will he talk about tackling the 8.3% and rising unemployment? There is no reason to trust this President.
