DeSantis is just a jerk.
That's bad for Florida, but good for the US because he'll never be president. He's too misanthropic and unlikeable.
2020hindsights
De Santis's "reasoning" for the law in the first place was that it was "age inappropriate" to talk about such things. That was obviously a crock of .... I hope somebody sues and tests the constitutionality of this because it violates the 1st amendment.
Expect to see businesses leaving Florida.

Notwithstanding their hypocrisy of trying to be arbiters of morality, the Republican culture was is just about distraction from their enablement of economic looting by their billionaire donors and persuading a voting bloc to vote against their own economic best interests and for those of the .01%.
dagon
Still no editing here but the above should obviously read "Republican culture war".
2020hindsights
And if you look at the polling on such issues, the vast majority of people are against these types of restrictions. This will backfire badly for DeSantis if he wants to run for president.
Bob Fosse
What a tool.

He's gonna be the next Scott Walker or Rick Perry. With a 250-pound orange monkey on his back.

This is why the #1 destination for people leaving Florida is California. They are tired of woke policies like this.

The age of consent is 18 but teenagers are having sex before then. Discussion on LGBTQ people needs to be part of education.

This tells you all you need to know about the current Repub party - a party that has renounced all its previous core values. Now you have;
Big Repub Government levying regulations tying the hands of local officials.
Cancel culture gone wild...using the power of the government to prohibit and outlaw inconvenient historical facts that upset its mostly white base.
And most hypocritically, you have a Gov who has been accused of grooming underage girls telling us what our morals should be.
bass4funk
Why?
Because you say so? Relax.
Then he wouldn’t win his State in a landslide.

DeSantis is a derelict and a jerk. He mishandled the CoVid pandemic all this time, all he cared for was tourism and Spring Break money. And this 'culture wars' stuff is a total crock.
First of all, it cheapens the true meaning of 'war' which is an ugly phenomena that Americans have learned to love since 1991, they've become numb to it and it's entertainment today - at least for armchair generals it is.
Next, children don't start to develop until around Grade 5. Sexual orientation comes and is unavoidable. Most of us are heterosexual by nature but homosexuality does exist in nature. It's not a choice and it does exist in a few animal species as well. Homosexuality will always be a minority but that's no excuse to be bashing or disenfranchising them. I served in the military before the 'don't ask, don't tell' came into effect 30 years ago, and they serve as well and honorably as the rest of us. I learned that most of them are not the monsters we've been told they are.
Teenagers need to know about their sexuality, whatever it is. It doesn't make a person good or bad, it's what you do with it that determines that.
DeSantis may be in the GOP but he's too moronic to know that the California governor Ronald Reagan (terms 1968-81) had gays in his cabinet and it was very well known in that state. And he did not mind or care at all, as long they did their jobs. When he got elected POTUS in 1980, they all went to DC with him.
DeSantis has proven already to be derelict his own state duties, and now he's looking for somebody to hate to further his selfish dumb ambitions. He doesn't have any right to dictate what is taught in schools because he has proven again and again to be an irresponsible idiot with no knowledge or grasp of reality. And like TreasonTrump, he's a boor who just doesn't know how to shut his immature stupid yapper.
bass4funk
Quite the opposite. They could have voted for Crist, they rejected him and his core values and let’s not forget, DeSantis got Dade County, usually a Dem stronghold cementing a GOP stronghold in that state.
But in California when the Dems do it, it’s ok?why?
But parents have to subjected to gender ideology? Why? 2 years ago, this was never an issue and then the left started forcing people to watch and consume this without having a dialogue about it. As far as historic facts are concerned most Americans already know our history, the good, the bad and ugly parts, now the social Justice warriors want to inflame more racial tension by telling blacks and other minorities that they are victims and need white liberals to help make it and whites should be ashamed that today had nothing to do with what some of their ancestors have done?
Yeah, that 30 yearcdebunked crap is just not resonating at all except for the left media pundits craving for a news poll bump, best of luck.
Lord Dartmouth
Excellent news. DeSantis 2024!

This is just nonsensical narrative spoon fed to you by Tucker and his little disciple Ron.
When are Republicans going to come up with policies that actually serve the American people rather than just depending on silly grievances, fearmongering, demonization, and non-existing cultural threats? The current GOP seems far less interested in solving solvable problems than giving its base a heavy dose of outrage against "the left".
Because he enjoys picking on trans kids, LGBTQ teachers, asylum seekers, and anyone who disagrees with him. These are not constructive policies. They are intended to be mean, which he thinks his supporters want--meanness. Whether he does it because he's a sociopath or because he's a brazen, cynical, nihilistic power-seeker, either way he's the epitome of a jerk.

DeSantis gay encounter scandal incoming...........
starpunk
There is no such thing as that and we all know it. Your gender is what it is, there is NO 'ideology' behind it.
And I remember from middle and high school some cretins sassed some fellow students off as being 'gay', 'queer' and similar epithets to mean 'uncool' or 'dumb', etc. That is a juvenile definition used by bullies who never matured beyond that level of maturity.
DeSantis is one of those types of people. He's uninitiated, uncultured, unqualified, and immature. He chose to be, he chose not to ever grow up. And he can't shut up either. That further shows his stupidity.
It's always a vogue for his type to find somebody to hate and an excuse to do. Most of us don't understand homosexuality but we need to know what it is and more importantly, what it isn't. I've learned enough during my military, college, work that gays generally aren't that different from anyone else. Most of the stereotypes of them don't apply. And I do not fear them.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/ron-desantis-reelection-florida-covid/
One study tried to compare the pandemic response of different states, taking into consideration the economy, education and public health. "A Final Report Card on the States' Response to COVID-19," written in part by researchers from the right-leaning Heritage Foundation and Committee to Unleash Prosperity, gave Florida an "A," while California and New York got failing grades.
He walked and chewed gum at the same time.
Not to his voters, they have the final say, they are the ones that put him where he is at.
I think most people with kids know when puberty starts, but thanks for the info.
No one is disputing that, not one person, that has nothing to do with pushing sexually explicit materials to little kids
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11835973/Ron-DeSantis-airs-video-containing-sexually-explicit-content-childrens-books.html
I am sure the man knows that as do most Americans that were born after 1964
I doubt it.
DeSantis cut spending in Florida, which, combined with federal stimulus payments and increasing sales tax revenue in 2021-22, led to a record state budget surplus.
He's not, hes working on behalf of his constiuents, the same way Youngkin is doing and he's a Republican in a deep blue state, the parents don't want this, he listened and he became governor. It pays to listen to your voters.
Well, not at all, the people love both men, but DeSantis does have a home turf advantage over Trump, you may not like them, that's ok, but millions do and the left just has to deal with it, they're not going anywhere and if the people don't like or want them, they will vote them out, until then, what makes them popular is that they listen to their voter base, that's what makes for a great politician and the left still hasn't figured that out yet. This is why people like Terry McAliffe lost miserably, the guy actually thought parents did'nt have the right to know or question teachers when it comes to these issues and parents should butt out and let the teachers do their jobs. Well, that position cost him his job. Youngkin and DeSantis are doing what they were elected to do and that is to represent their constiuents and that is what they are doing.
Superlib
....and then Republicans realized they could generate outrage which produces 1) a reliable voter and 2) donations. Now Ron is sending undercover agents to drag shows, a great way to use tax dollars, apparently.
Japan does this, too, over WWII. I'm betting there are Japanese politicians who want to block teachings on the war because they say it will make young people hate Japan. I'm surprised you support this point of view since they killed so many Americans.
Superlib
On the bright side, Ron is falling far behind Trump now. As I predicted, his culture wars just don't resonate on a national scale. Ask swing voters in Pennsylvania and Arizona.
Now he's going after Trump directly to shore up support, and it's going to be wonderful to watch. But at the end of the day Ron will just be a flash in the pan. He'll give it a shot nationally then return to Florida to try to arrest more teachers.
dagon
Once again, I question your understanding of basic American political geography and spreading of misinformation.
Youngkin's Virginia is not a "deep blue state".
Besides going back being home to the former capitol of the Confederacy in Virginia in Richmond, the southern part has a strong conservative military presence.
In the north there is even more of a military industrial complex presence in the NVA suburbs.
The spillover from the ethnic makeup of the DC area and immigration changed it in the recent past but there is nothing "deep blue" about the political stance of Virginia.
In fact like Florida the NVA suburbs are a hotbed of culture warring now.

My, my...two Trump slams in one post - that's a new record for this poster...
First he says Trump is a "far-left media pundit who spreads crap" regarding DeSantis grooming underage girls, and now he defends Ron and says Trump is a liar when he said DeSantis bungled his COVID response.
“There are Republican governors that did not close their states,” Trump said aboard his plane. “Florida was closed for a long period of time.” Trump added that DeSantis had "changed his tune a lot" with regards to COVID-19 vaccines, accusing the Florida governor and his team of "trying to rewrite history,"

Keep the Trump disses coming - they're very entertaining...

Nonsense
No, if you want an abortion, you are free to go to another state, you have free speech and DeSantis made it.
No, California can continue doing what it wants, the exodus from the state is proof of their results.
Still, the theory has become a major point of contention for Republicans, including Florida Gov.Ron DeSantis, who signed legislation last year that prohibits instruction that could make students feel responsibility, guilt or anguish for what other members of their race did in the past.
Yeah, that should help race relations..”
Did I say that?
bass4funk
Yes, there is.
Technically, yes, but politically the left or woke crowd is pushing it, why? How many genders do we have again?
Have you read his resume recently? No, you haven't, that's why you made that statement.
So you are saying that people were forced to vote for him? Huh???
He doesn't need to, he's the governor.
Ok.
Superlib
What a horrible policy. Any student can stop the teaching of any subject if it makes them feel anguish? Talk about protecting snowflakes. Can a black student raise their hand and end all discussion of the LA riots because, ya know, makes them feel not so good about their race?
That's what you want?
Bob Fosse
Cancel culture ron?
Quite the opposite.
It’s no wonder people are fleeing Florida to move to NY or California where they have freedom to live without big government telling them what to do.

This is a confession of your own lack of situational awareness. I had gay teachers and administrators in the 1970s. There were gay marriages of district staff. It wasn't out in the open but it was there if you had your eyes open. I was always open minded so people were comfortable telling me stuff. Still am that way. So don't try and say any of this is new because it isn't. Just because it is new to you is not an excuse. People have suffered rejection, violence and abandonment by their families for generations over sexual orientation. YOU chose to ignore it until it could no longer be ignored. Now instead of trying to understand and deal with the situation some on the right just want to suppress it and make it go away. It isn't going away. Gay people are part of the nation. They are citizens like everyone else and have the same rights as everyone else. And, oh lordy, they want to be treated like everyone else and not discriminated against. Rob DeSantis is playing to the very worst bigotries in people and there is nothing even a little bit admirable about it.
Desert Tortoise
Florida just forced the removal of references to Rosa Parks race when describing her protest. Imagine that. Florida forced textbooks to remove references to race when describing Jim Crow laws. Instead of describing the people discriminated against as African Americans they are called "certain people". All because it might make some white parents or their kids feel “discomfort, guilt, or anguish” about what people of the same race did in the past" to use the wording of the Florida statute.

Or are all of those salacious lies and slander?

And then what would the term 'certain people' apply to? Non-racial classifications like say Jews or Muslims? Prejudices of all kinds are bad and they should never be neutered or shoved under rugs. Bad is bad.
bass4funk
So you are essentially saying is that he looked at the Democrat's playbook? And the problem is what?
They can if they want, but history is already written.
Apples and oranges argument. In the US we have tons and tons of historical information and photos that can be accessed from everywhere, when I was in HS, we got all of the information pertaining to antropology, social and racial issues, race studies, colonialism, all of it. but then again, we didn't have political Marxists trying to rewrite books and trying to make one racial group helpless victims and the other deviant evil overlords.

So why is he spreading crap about DeSantis being a pedo and botching his COVID response?
bass4funk
Question is, should it be happening.

Ok, now we’re talking, leave sexual, race and gender topics to the parents.

No, to the average thinking sensible American.

A bit out of context.
It’s already in books, can’t be undone.
Then let him, no one is listening and DeSantis needs to address it and fight back which he is slowly doing. Good on him, but as a voter, not even focusing or care what he did 30 years ago. Just like liberals don’t care what Obama or Biden did 30 years ago.
Because he’s Trump’s biggest competitor. So why wouldn’t he attack the guy? Come one now…
Bob Fosse
I was taking about religion, don’t pull a switch.
Bob Fosse
45’s biggest competitor should be any Democrat. But priorities right? The GoP are too busy attacking each other to have anything meaningful to contribute to anything except headlines.

Just headlines.

Praying to who or what? The Great Spaghetti Monster? Mother Earth Gaia? Godzilla? Elvis Presley?
As long as kids have tests to take, crushes to 'ask out' for upcoming events, sports championships to strive for, and more; there will be praying in the schools. In the mind - where it belongs. God can see and hear everything in a person's mind, the Bible even mentions that it should be private, That means NOT enforcing it on a class and NOT having it out in the open for all to see.
Freedom of religion is to be respected, for ALL. Too many Americans worship money, power, celebrity stars and materialism anyway.

bass4funk

Not a good day for Trump here on this thread - his formerly loyal supporters have given him the shiv;
Slam #1: They say that accusations of DeSantis being a groomer are "30 year old debunked crap". When the only one making those allegations are Trump. So to them Trump is spreading outright lies and "crap".
Slam #2: They defend DeSantis' COVID response even though Trump posted in Truth Social that he bungled it badly by staying locked down too long. More Trump lies.
Slam #3: They openly admit that "no one listens to Trump" when he makes these slanderous lies and allegations against DeSantis.

Well, look at DeSantis flip and flop;
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sought to clean up his previous comments calling Russia’s invasion of Ukraine a “territorial dispute,” telling British journalist Piers Morgan instead that Russian President Vladimir Putin is a “war criminal.” DeSantis faced mounting criticism from Republicans over his earlier comments on Ukraine, including from Sens. Marco Rubio of Florida, Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia and John Cornyn of Texas, who all publicly broke with DeSantis after the governor rejected additional funding for Ukraine. Former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, who is considering a 2024 bid, called DeSantis “naïve” over his Ukraine stance.
But during an interview with Morgan set to air this week, DeSantis called Putin a “a gas station with a bunch of nuclear weapons,” repeating a similar line he had used in early March to describe the Russian leader. Both lines echoed a 2014 quip from then-Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in which he said, “Russia is a gas station masquerading as a country.”
https://www.politico.com/news/2023/03/22/desantis-ukraine-calls-putin-war-criminal-00088460
Ron is saying the same things about Russia as that hated RINO and NEOCON John McCain.
Maybe there is some truth in Trump calling him a "RINO Globalist".

Personally, I think DeSantis has a stronger chance against Biden. He'd get all of the Trump supporters and he has more of an ability to win the never Trump crowd in the GOP and elsewhere.
But Trump will take care of that for Democrats.

ROFL! At this rate Mikey Mouse can beat Joe.
bass4funk
Not necessarily
Not so sure, he doesn’t turn out massive crowds like Trump, not to say he can’t win, but going against Biden, at this point that’s a million dollar question I would say 70/30 I think, I would give Trump 90/10 beating Joe.
With all the info coming out of Twitter and these hearings, that won’t be as easy as the left thinks, now more than ever.
