Dior fires designer John Galliano after online video shows him praising Hitler

Just as I suspected in the last story about this creep. He deserves to be fired.

It's got to be more than being drunk. What does a swishy fashion designer even know about Hitler? The man is obviously in the process of going off the deep end.

I don't think this flamboyant homosexual has thoroughly thought through his viewpoint on Hitler.

I saw the video, and there indeed seems to be something wrong with this fellow.

What a jacka** No place in the world for this kind of hate. We all have some form of bias, bigotry, etc. in our hearts but we have to look past it and think clearly at ALL times. He deserves his punishment. Hopefully, he has learned a lesson and will try harder to be a better person towards all.

I know someone who worked for him before he became famous. I heard nothing good about him then and he treated underlings terribly and abused those he felt below him.

This rant makes me hate him even more. Sad thing is that the fashion world is so shallow that he will come back, maybe bigger than ever.

I know he didnt but what l was getting at is where does the being drunk excuse stop and responsibility for your actions start do we say oh ok he was drunk he's forgiven for mouthing off, or punching someone, or robbing something we need to draw a line or things get blurred. Yes its unfortunate that he was drunk and said these things but he said them being drunk is not an excuse in my opinion

Don't get me wrong. I am NOT excusing his behaviour at all. Yes, I posted earlier, 'hey...give the guy a break'. I was being light-hearted. It's something we hear a lot in Japan, 'forgive me...I was drunk' etc.

Sometimes we say things that we regret. In this day and age when everything we say or do can be recorded, we have to be supersensitive to what we do.

I sometimes get kinda worried about how far the 'being PC' is going nowadays. That's not to say I don't support Dior firing him. If it damages the company's image, the company has a right to protect itself.

Interesting contrast with the story from yesterday about the band appearing on MTV in Nazi garb, and both of them refusing to apologize. Here, the company fires his a@@, even though it could cost them millions, and, he could face criminal charges under French law. One is an example of a corporation and a cultural taking the moral high road. While the other is just Japan and one of its companies being their usual ignorant selves.

Jews are heavily involved in all stages of the cosmetics and fashion fields, particularly retailing (not to mention show business). So it is no exaggeration to say that Galliano owes some of his wealth and success to the people he apparently detests. When does it make good business sense to insult your customers?

One should definitely not be driving when drunk, but talking is fine.

Having said that, he seems like a messed up fellow. What he said was wrong/offensive. But what ever happened to "sticks and stones may ...." Firing him seems a little harsh, not that I'll miss his designs in any way.

This whole thing is simply astounding. Dior says, "It's not surprising" what was said, but the 'too damning to deny' seems to indicate they knew and were just going along with it until it became a danger to the business. What's more, they're STILL using the guy's collection and banking on the people who show up to see it. DISGUSTING!

No kidding! We absolutely cannot judge “No, but I love Hitler, and people like you would be dead today. Your mothers, your forefathers, would be ... gassed and ... dead" without any context. I mean, maybe he started tap dancing after and said, "Nah, I was just joshing ya!"

I find it extremely sad that people are defending this lout, or proclaiming that because of his success racism can suddenly have occurred and it's not his fault, etc. A lot of the people quoted in the article are painting Galliano as a victim.

I am tempted to say it's just Europe being Europe; but it's not to hard to imagine the same pathology could be found among the elites in US fashion and media.

I have no trouble with Dior firing this tool. They have that right as an employer.

However, what DID surprise me in the article is that France actually has laws against uttering anti-semitic remarks. Six months in jail for saying rude things about Jews? Unbelievable and totally counter to western values of freedom. I wonder if any other group enjoys the same protection....

Sarcasm doesn't befit you. I watched the video and still cannot judge. We've no idea what, if anything, provoked this. Who knows what these people said to him before the 'tirade'?...

As I said before, many of us have probably said things that, in retrospect, maybe we shouldn't have said. Perhaps this was one of those moments for Galliano. Difference for him was that the video was 'bought' by that most reputable of newspapers, 'The Sun'. Hmmm... I wonder how much these people were paid for this. If some of the things I said in the past were recorded for all to see, and if I were a celebrity, I'd probably be languishing in some jail or would certainly be poverty stricken due to all the lawsuits.

It'll be interesting to see if France takes action. They could do, if he made such strong anti-semitic remarks. At the time of writing this, no action has been taken.

We, consumers have a tool to stop a guy like him. Stop buying his products and let him go.

That any of you know who he is - or care - is telling. I thought all of you brave and noble supporters of the left were too busy righting the world's wrongs and taking care of the down-trodden to worry about some sod prancing about in the wealthy and useless world of high fashion.
