Ryan described Trump's comments as "textbook" racism, but he always said Trump has his vote. Why? Because voting for a textbook racist will increase his chances of getting his conservative agenda passed. It's the textbook example of party before country.
I think you missed Laguna's point. The GOP he's referring to are the establishment Republicans, the people you dislike so much you refused to call yourself Republican anymore. Yeah, those guys.
It's ironic that Trump was elected partly by criticizing the establishment, and now they are the ones who will be crafting policy while Trump goes on tour. Pence will be an asset to them, especially if he ends of being the de facto President.

"To be honestly fair, both Obama and Trump are very thin-skinned and have fragile egos."
I thought the way Obama dealt with racists/idiots/crackpots claiming he wasn't a US citizen, a Muslim and the anti-Christ was extremely dignified and classy.
He didn't get into Twitter fights in the early hours, mock disabled people who wrote disobliging things about him, etc...etc...

Let me guess. Breitbart doesn't report such news. So to summarize . . .
In response to Trump's comments about Judge Curiel's heritage:
--"the textbook definition of a racist comment"
--"I disavow those comments"
--"I regret those comments he made" (but I still can't bring myself to be a principled human being)
And then later, in the month leading up to the election, Ryan's spokesperson explains Ryan's unwillingness to support Trump:
--"The speaker is going to spend the next month focused entirely on protecting our congressional majorities"
These are facts. This is not liberal spin.
Now that Trump has won, Ryan is smooching all over Trump's derriere. That's good old-fashioned heartland family values. Processed cheese, brats, and (forgive me Father for I have sinned) beer. Trump's a racist, misogynist, amoral bully, but he'll probably put his signature on our pretend brand of compassionate conservatism. Jesus Christ will no doubt approve. Anything to lower taxes on rich people, outlaw abortion, demonize weirdo minorities and Muslims and homosexuals, and allow the environment to get screwed -- well, God be praised.
Why don't you tell us? And please use reputable sources, and not outlets such as allenbwest.com, america-wake-up.com, or the blaze.

Prediction: Trump will entrust all legislation policy to Ryan, who will push through the GOP right-wing dream card. In the short term, things will go well, and their relationship will blossom, but within about a year, as Ryan's policies are clarified and begin enactment, things will turn south, and Trump will turn on Ryan, blaming him for everything. What will happen to the GOP then is the big question mark.

They will stab each other in the back when the time comes.

Unfortunately, the problem is that they'll reduce this cognitive dissonance not by recognizing the gap between promises made and not delivered but simply ignore or denying the conflict: "he didn't mean to lock her up", "he didn't mean he was going to sue those women", "he didn't mean he was going to deport all 11 million illegals". Maybe it'll be part fence and part wall...
Never underestimate the ability of people who are sufficiently invested in a cause or in a person to self delude, deny the undeniable. We'll see.

It's the (socio)path they've chosen.

"Paul, you're a genius and I love you, but don't ever take sides with anyone against the Donald again. Ever."
With an idiot in the White House, the GOP is just wetting itself thinking about how it can Ayn Rand-ify America. As long as the Donald can get lots of people kissing his fragile ego.

Someone made a comment on another forum I use brought up a very interesting perspective about our current political parties and political leanings in the US.
The majority of Republicans in this era focus mostly on keeping things stagnant, repetitive, and maintaining a financial status quo and only look at the present and dream of the "glory" days of the past.
The majority of Democrats in this era focus more on the possibilities that can be and keep hope alive in trying to make a more positive outlook for inspiring a brighter (and cleaner) future.
For the life of me I can't understand why our politicians can't seem to work towards a clean and bright FUTURE of reasonable STABLE economic growth FOR ALL.

Cognitive dissonance resounds, presenting two problems. Any opposition party can present Pollyanna and get away with it as they know their pies-in-the-sky have no chance of becoming law - so they tend to overpromise, and their supporters then expect Pollyanna. Second is the vagueness of Trump's promises against Ryan's agenda. Trump has, for example, spoken against throwing ill people or the elderly onto the streets, but that is exactly what Ryan's programs would result in.
The GOP is running face-first into the wall of reality - the smack heard 'round the world.

"Hah hah hah I'm bragging about how I when I make alliances I can't be trusted to keep them unless the other party does everything I want all the time. Oh by the way hi Taiwan would you mind please sticking out your neck to ruffle Beijing's feathers? I totally promise I've got your back."

Ryan: Those Madame Tussauds' technicians are good, but they've really overcooked this one a little!

Yes, "lower rates on corporations, individuals and investments", regulatory reform in at least the health care space are priorities, while "an enormous infrastructure bill" has "been pushed to the back burner".
It's funny, that poster JeffLee was trying to have me believe that the markets have shot up because of the Trump infrastructure spending plan (so much better than Hillary's?), and not the stuff that is actually going to happen next year.

I hope the electoral vote is in favor of Trump.
OR, the American people, I should say. Because the Democrats are NEVER on our side.

Which comments? When was the last time he criticized Trump?
Peyote??? Lol
Obama would just sack 'em if you went against him. How many Generals did Obama send packing for questioning him?
Don't worry, Obama will be gone soon enough.
To be honestly fair, both Obama and Trump are very thin-skinned and have fragile egos.

One can only hope.
I don't think so, I believe Trump and Ryan can reach common ground and are willing to work with one another on a number of issues. I believe Liberals will HOPE that some monkey wrench will fall in the gearshift to hopefully give Dems the breaks they so desperately need to gain a minuscule traction with the people wanting to buy into their skewed progressive policies again.
I think this time, they will do well, at least NOT going to ignore the people the way the Democrats have for the last 8 years.
