Person of the Year without a doubt. He has also shot himself into the top rankings of American presidents - up there with George and Honest Abe - while Joe has been relegated to the bottom tier, if not the very southern part.
dagon
He deserves it, like the Austrian corporal who was Man of the Year in 1938.
Both ushering in corporatocratic authoritarian oligarchy on the back of a morally bankrupt democracy.
dagon
Naw, Trump is still at the bottom from his first term.

Easy prediction his second term will be worse.

More ring kissing of Trump. Even the MSM is getting on board. There is something seriously wrong with America.

@JJE,
LOL. Hitler was Time's "Person of the Year" for 1938.
asdfgtr
Maybe next year will be Putin's turn.
bass4funk
So was Obama. Lol

Time "Person of the Year" winners:
A amusing list of some of the worst mass murderers and morally bankrupt leaders in history:
Adolf Hitler (1938); Joseph Stalin (1939 and 1942); Nikita Khrushchev (1957); and Ayatollah Khomeini (1979)....
Norm
Obama was Time’s Person of the Year for 1938?
asdfgtr
Has Trump's real VP, Elon Musk, won Time's "Person of the Year" yet?
The answer is yes. In 2021
bass4funk
No need to get cute, you know what I meant, he was “person of the year” as well.

I wonder if Trump will get the Nobel Peace prize. Obama did.
If he can get Russia out of Ukraine and provide security guarantees to Ukraine, he will deserve it.

It just keeps getting better and better!
muh democracy!
bass4funk
I could care either way, he was nominated though a few times…
-Facilitating the Abraham Accords (2020): Agreements to normalize relations between Israel and several Arab nations (United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco).
-Diplomatic Efforts with North Korea (2018): His outreach to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, although this effort did not yield a long-term resolution.
-Serbia-Kosovo Economic Agreement (2020): A U.S.-brokered economic normalization agreement between Serbia and Kosovo.
I agree.
Blacklabel
Awww the left and their pettiness is on full display.
but but but a select few people who were later found to be “bad” have won this award decades, almost 100 years ago too. Reeeeeee!
Congrats to Time magazine Person of the Year, President Donald John Trump!
Ken
Hmm? They spelled fascism wrong
YeahRight
Time magazine has always named the person who has had the most influence as the person of the year. That can be in a good way or a bad way. With Trump, like him or hate him, he has certainly been a big influence this year.
NOMINATION
Still crying about democracy when there was nothing democratic about your side's campaign.

Trump is expected to be on Wall Street to mark the ceremonial start of the day's trading,
Trump certainly fell in line with Wall Street after his fake populist rhetoric against Clinton in 2016.

It's crazy because not too long ago he was starting to owe millions due to either court outbursts or fraud. But he gave Musk so many happy endings he ended up avoiding all of that

DJT has completely 're-aligned' the Republican Party, something no politician has done in US at this scale since FDR in 1930s. That's historical!
Working class, organized labor, and minority groups shifted in record numbers to Trump and Republican Party, plus large increases in middle class and women voters.
Having an extra 4 years between Presidential Terms has given Trump the ability to do above and thus Republican Members of Congress are far more unified than 2016.

He told you now, did he?
So? Tell us, what did they talk about?

Your point,

Yeah, libs really can’t say anything on that one, spare the outrage.
In the eyes of liberals, I guess so.

I was given to understand that this title wasn't necessarily intended to imply that the recipient was good or bad as such, but that they had wielded a lot of influence / been prominently featured in the "year" in question. And on that metric, it's hard to argue.
Time has picked some pretty interesting "Persons of the year" in the past.
But really, it means nothing whoever they pick. It's like when music magazines choose their "Definitive, for-ever, eternal list of 500 greatest albums ever ever ever", and they know that they've set off a rage-bait chain reaction.

"Trump has invited President Xi of China to attend his inauguration."
Biden was/is the best friend China ever had in the White House. Xi has Joe and Hunters pics on his nightstand.
I love how liberals can't comprehend trying to get along with the adversaries of the US. They preach peace but thrive on conflict. Trump tried to get along with Putin, Xi, Jong-Un and all he got from the left was accusations of complicity. But the world was much more peaceful, and many fewer people died on his watch than Bidens. Especially Americans. Biden seems to have forgotten the Americans who died leaving Afghanistan but many of us didn't. And we voted accordingly.

I love that this comment is getting downvoted for simply stating a fact. That points to some major insecurity among the Trump Stans.

Let's hope Trump can deliver Peace & Prosperity to US and the World. US voters want secure borders, lower inflation/interest rates, crime and ending forever wars.
Peace thru Strength and Prosperity, the tech. and business community's VERY excited about less regulations, lower taxes, free and FAIR trade, re-shoring to re-build the US manufacturing base etc.
Biden global destabilization and inflation/high cost of Living Nightmare ending soon, US OPTIMISM = UP, UP, UP!

Trump to be received like Ronald Reagan back in the day at the dawn of his second term as well. Markets are up, the "TRUMP" effect, Elon Musk not doing too bad either!

Trump had LOTS of help, probably RFK Jr. successfully suing US Govt. for Censorship and Elon Musk and his acquisition of Twitter, were huge, but so were Vivek R. and Charlie Kirk on college campuses, all of above critical, helping TRUMP Win the Youth Vote = HUGE!!!
Biden won Youth vote +23pts 2020, Trump +12 2024!!!
Let's not forget nontraditional media like podcasts, eg. Joe Rogan, Youth HATE corrupt mainstream media!!

It’s an indisputable fact that education levels have been declining in the US for decades now. I think that goes a long way in explaining Trump’s popularity.

Good point, the weaponization of Govt. and lawfare also helped TRUMP to victory, all his cases are dead or on life support with no path, his 'fake' NYC Alvin Bragg hush money civil convictions will be THROWN out ASAP.

Point is TRUMP closed ground with many voting blocks, relative to 2020, more than doubled African American support, increased female support about 2%, huge % gains with Asians & Hispanics, won youth (18-29) vote and YES, made GAINS with College Educated Voters!!
= Reason Trump's Person of the YEAR

On his visit to Paris for the reopening of Notre Dame, Trump had a long private meeting with the Prince of Wales, William.
His grandmother the queen, his trip to Winsor Castle, and his affection for the British royal family.

Bit unrealistic there but if he can get Moscow and Kyiv to sit down and work out a deal based on reality ( Russia will keep Crimea and Donbas and Ukraine will get some sort of security guarantees ) he sure should get the Nobel Peace prize.

The nobel peace prize is pretty ridiculous overall. I mean in the UK we loved Obama, but when he was given the prize we were scratching our heads a bit. (So was Obama himself, according to his autobiography).
The prizes for sciences have some validity to them, as they're based on evidence, peer review, long years of contribution to a field, etc. Even literature is rarely that contentious - I mean, Bob Dylan, amazing as he is, was clearly the Nobel committee trying to be "hello, fellow young people".
The peace prize is as often as not just as much a clickbait / ragebait tactic as the Person Of The Year.

We the People of the United States of America deserve better!
Tokyo Guy
We the People of the United States of America deserve better!
TBH, no we don't.
We elected Trump in 2016, and he oversaw the worst response among (supposedly) first world countries to the Coronavirus, he whipped up a bunch of people who stormed the Capitol and smeared their own feces on the walls, beat law enforcement officers, and generally acted like subhumans. He made us an international laughing stock for four years. He was found guilty of various crimes in a court of law.
Then we (the generic "we", of course) elected him again.
We do not deserve better. We got exactly what we deserve
Tokyo Guy
Approx. 75% of US voters (and voters across the world) feel society is going in the wrong direction, this is why almost entire democratic world is politically re-aligning.
Voters aren't automatically right.
52 per cent of the UK voted to leave the European Union, and from my understanding that didn't go real well for them.
Burgerland
We the People of the United States of America deserve better!"
But the people of the United States of America voted and made their feelings pretty clear, have they not? The election results speak for themselves, do they not?

things have value on the left depending on if their side or the other side gets it:
Obama Person of Year or Nobel Peace Prize: how magnificent!
Trump: ah that, doesn’t mean anything it’s nonsense and they just give those to anyone.
Robert Mueller: Gold Star, how heroic! A man of impeccable character bravery and valantry!
Pete Hegesth: TWO Gold Stars, ah that? Everybody gets those. Just a Fox News weekend host.

...many fewer people died on his watch than Bidens. Especially Americans.
Some of us haven't forgotten the hundreds of thousands of Americans who died unnecessarily of Covid and complications owing to Trump's jaw-dropping incompetence and willful negligence as president for which he has never been made accountable.

I'm completely disgusted to see how the U.S. media and oligarchs have been toadying up to Trump. Just because he won an election and is headed back to the White House, it doesn't make him any less of a serial liar, a slanderer, a thug, a grifter and a slimeball. I am not in the market for any of the running shoes, watches, Chinese bibles or other cheap schlock he's been peddling to America's hoi polloi, but if someone offers a voodoo doll with orange hair (with pins included), I'd be interested in placing an order. (I don't think voodoo works, but it's a good temporary catharsis until karmah rears its ugly head and smites him with a lightning bolt.

Person of the year indeed! Being a convicted felon and being chosen by majority of the Americans by conning them required a lot of talent and speaks volume of how imbecile Americans are!
eric_japan
Ring the bell. Person of the year, etc… This site is full of left leaning types. Just like mainstream media. How about let the man work, stop the relentless attacks and see what happens after 4 years. If it’s going well leave the man alone( mainstream media). And if it’s going bad vote your side back in. I think that the Dems and their cohorts are worried if he has success they’ll never get back in power. God forbid the country is actually going well and most people are doing well and the future looks a little brighter. How about trying to look at a few areas where most agree and trying to build something better for Americans and regain so of their trust back. Now all time lows in trusting government agencies and mainstream media. Why is that???
Tokyo Guy
Obama Person of Year or Nobel Peace Prize: how magnificent!
Nah. I mean I was actually briefly proud to be American while Obama was in charge, but the peace prize was pretty weird. He'll be remembered well among democrats, moderate republicans (if there are any left) and people who can see beyond skin color, but the peace prize won't have much to do with it.
Someone said in a post that Trump can fix all America's problems. I mean, if he can, great, then I'll be the first to stand up and say that I was wrong about him. Give him all the prizes you want in that case.
But if I were a betting man, I wouldn't put too much money on it after seeing the first four years under the guy.
eric_japan
funny how people think they are better than others based on certain parameters on political beliefs. Reminds me of that clip online where a group of strangers rate each other on IQ ( who they think had the higher IQ) just after some short introductions and some various question. One gal who had 2 degrees and work for a pharma( I believe) ranked the young man who hadn’t gone to college as quite low afterwards had them take an IQ test and she was much lower than him.

This "Man of the Year" is as empty as the Nobel Peace Prize given to Obama five minutes into his Presidency.
Let's reward people for actually doing things, not winning an election, which is mostly just vaudeville.
If Trump stops the wars, or significantly shifts US gears toward stopping wars as promised, I will applaud a "Man of the Year" for 2025 as loudly as anyone. He doesn't deserve one for 2024.
