Now if only the "buzz" was clippers going through his hair would I be interested.

The Republicans are hunting for gimmicks again, true to their cheerleader spirits. They certainly are not gaining my respect.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Lessee... The Donald and Sarah vs Barack and Joe... oh, my...

"Sure it was encouraging when Obama got elected"

No, it wasn't.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

once you let the crazy out of the box it's hard to get it back in... ride that tiger Repubs!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The more clowns like this the Republican party can line up, the better for the faltering Democratic party.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The man's a complete idiot--crafty, but an idiot--and will never be nominated. Nothing to worry about, but a serious distraction from discussion of the real issues.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Incredible, but not actually surprising how so many Republicans can fall for this flim-flam artist. Shows how completely duped a large percentage of them are.

Trump has flip-flopped on so many issues it's hard to tell what the man actually believes. But he's made a living conning people and it's clear it the Republicans who love to be conned.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

He’s answering the criticisms that he has to have something besides the birther issue. I have a feeling he’ll bring it back out if/when he has some more info (assuming he really has investigators in HI, which is hard to say now).

The Republican leadership are not supportive of him because he's a Johnny-come-lately, and with a mind of his own, he can't be controlled. The Donald's ego causes him to have to be the man in charge, and I like that. He is now getting all kinds of grass roots support now because of his willingness to be blunt on the issues and not espouse the political correctness as do the other milquetoast candidates.

Dear GOP,

Please, please, please run Donald Trump and Sarah Palin as the GOP ticket for the next presidential election. I will even send you money if you agree. I think it is a wonderful idea! It certainly helps show exacty where the mind set of the GOP is today. And heralds what the public can look forward to from the policies and ideologies supported by the party.

Well done people! Makes one proud to be an American.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This is more about his ego than anything else. In the end he'll get a lot of headlines with his name in them, then he'll just excuse himself from the situation when the real questions about credibility pop up. And my guess is with the media storm he'll come out of it with a new TV show or something.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Superlib. And in the process take up enough time to help assure a GOP defeat.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Trump gets more and more viable the more he speaks. BO is in trouble.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Once again, the Dems are scared.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Once again, the Dems are scared."

The only thing scary about Trump and Palin, is that some people find it possible to support them.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I am all for a GOP ticket with Trump and Palin!! Go Trump and Palin. Could be the best gift the GOP gives to us in generations. A shoe in failure.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

tkoind2 - sorry, Palin should not be on the ticket, she is not a realistic or capable candidate. But I agree with you about Trump - he'll throw a shoe at Obama's hideous failure of a presidency!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Trump is a joke. No better than Palin as a candidate. The people won't take him serously once a formal campaign begins. It is a pipe dream.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Trump is very viable. And Obama has been so utterly incompetent that Trump has a real shot. He's better than the rest of typical GOP losers that are competing against him (Romney, Gingrich, Huckabee...)

Why is Trump a bad candidate? Why would he make a bad president? Because he hurts people's feelings?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Man for this we do agree. I am disappointed with Obama's administration too. Even more so with the congress who have failed to put the interests of working people first.

We don't need any more celebrity presidents. Or arrogant Alpha male types like Trump or clueless red necks like Palin. We need leadership that can inspire the people and lead them with integrity. We need a modern day Abe Lincoln or Franklin Roosevelt. Willing to lead and get what needs to be done sorted with the people in mind.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Of course you need a congress that cares more about people than their corporate sponsors too.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

tkoind2 - I hear you. However of the GOP crop I think Trump is the only guy with any guts. The regular coterie of GOP insiders deserves to lose.

Also totally agree about congress. I blame them more than any president. For the last 6-10 years they have earned their 12% approval rating. Boehner, McCain, Pelosi, Reid... to think they can do anything differently than they've been doing for the last 20+ years is a real stretch of the imagination.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Of course it's all about publicity. This guy will say anything, do anything(so will most poiticians for that matter). Will he bow out at some point? Probably, but if there's enough adoring fools out there, you never know. President The Donald. How does that sound?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

tkoind2: And in the process take up enough time to help assure a GOP defeat.

He can serve some purpose. I've already read a few articles about how his 25% tariff on Chinese imports would be bad for everyone involved, so in that sense he helps to bring up an emotional issue and the media can play a part in educating people about the reality of the situation. Republican strategists can take notes on which of his messages work and use that to their advantage, but in the end it's Donald Trump. People expect this kind of behavior from him so his impact is mostly limited.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

To secure the Republican nomination, candidates are faced with no choice but to appeal to an increasingly irrational segment of one-issue voters whose beliefs and attitudes are estranged from the mainstream. By so doing they alienate the vast majority of US voters who are sensible enough to realize the country won't benefit from such an individual in the White House. Unless the party comes to its senses and sends the extremists packing, Obama's reelection is a foregone conclusion.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I do think that this is a problem for American politics recently. Tunnel vision and hard core partisanship. The losers in this are the ordinary people who just want to know they can keep working, not drown under medical and other costs, and hopefully make it possible for their kids to do better than they have.

Why are these values the first thing both parties claim to be ready to address, the the first thing left on the cutting floor once they are elected? It isn't right.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

We know Mr. Bush's grades. We know his brand of whiskey before he kicked it. We know he eats pork rinds. Dan Rather nuked his own career trying to prove Mr. Bush got high-hat treatment in the Texas Air National Guard. But Obama? Nothing to see here.

No, the real story about Trump isn't Trump.

It's the U.S. lame stream media's fawning over Obama. Whether it's regarding his birthplace, whether he personally heard "Rev." Wright's racist and anti-Semitic sermons or whether unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayers wrote his first book, Obama manages to avoid careful examination from an adoring media.

Trump would not be relevant if the U.S. media had been.

RR

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Trump would not be relevant if the U.S. media had been.

You should be saying "Trump would not be relevant if the President (Bush and Obama), Congress, and the US media had been".

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The GOP deserved to lose in 2008, and if Boehner and the GOP "elite" think that the 2010 results were actually an endorsement for them, then they deserve to lose again.

Out with the career politicos (GOP and Dem).

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Trump is a joke. If Trump runs (even as an independent), Obama wins.

I support Obama, but I want to see a serious candidate from the Republican party. The country deserves that much, and the two-party system needs it to function properly.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Why is trump a joke?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Of course this never would have been possible if Obama had not turned out to be such a miserable failure.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Why is trump a joke?

Because he has absolutely no chance of winning? Because he'd make ridiculously bad president? Because he's a rather silly person that has been the butt of jokes for years? Because he's been spouting birther nonsense and disapproves of raising the debt-ceiling (essentially fiscal suicide for the US)? Because of his absurd comb-over?

There are litterally dozens of answers to that question.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Because he's been spouting birther nonsense "

Trump is right to ask why Obama spent millions to hide his past.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

We know Mr. Bush's grades. We know his brand of whiskey before he kicked it. We know he eats pork rinds.

We know about Martin Van Buren than we do Soetero.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Wow, what an all-star lineup -- Gingrich, Huckabee, Palin, Bachmann, and Trump. With potential candidates like that, how can the Republicans possibly lose? (Sarcastic).

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'm glad Trump's taken it upon himself to do that which the MSM in this country won't.

He's decided to do what needs to be done. He has the resources to do it too. That will also allow the GOP candidates the luxury of not having to get into those issues. They can focus on the economy, $5.00-a-gallon gas, and the skyrocketing debt: Things Obama's handlers absolutely do not want his teleprompter to address.

Trump is going to take the bullet for whomever runs against Obama. It's a hell of a good strategy.

RR

triumvere -

in response:

based on what? he's leading in the polls. based on what? and worse than the current and past ones? what jokes? and so what? what does that have to do with president? 4a. many americans don't believe BO and BO doesn't want to show one. 4b. so what? many people are against it. so you won't vote for him because of a hair style? That's like not voting for someone because they are fat or black.
0 ( +0 / -0 )

RR - or Trump is going to win.

Obama is certainly beatable if the republicans get out of the baby boom trap. The next US presidential election will be the first one in a long time when the baby boom generation and older will be outnumbered by younger voters. The baby boom generation have done a lot to destroy the US. They liked cheap public education when they were in school and government services when they didn't have to pay for them and since they entered the labor force have forced via the ballet box politicians to cut taxes and government services except what will benefit them like pensions and healthcare for old people.

Now that they have left a lake of red ink and are outnumbered younger voters can force politicians to finally make the baby boomers pay their way through an increase in the retirement age, reduced pensions and higher medicare costs.

Any credible republican candidate that offers to clean up the bloody mes left by the baby boomers can win.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Trump has been accurately called the Al Sharpton of the Repub party.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Good thing the Media can focus on Trump as a fringe candidate (which he is) instead of mentioning that.....

Even Herman Cain, the little-known, wealthy former pizza chain executive, gets mentioned by Republican voters who will have the first crack at winnowing the Republican field.

Happens to be African American.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Why is Trump a joke? The operative Karl Rove said it before us; we are just assenting.

Here's one reason: he has been doing the same head fake before presidential elections since the 1980s. Funny that people still get faked out and jump every time.

If he has to play by the rules for candidates and submit a full financial disclosure, do you think he'd be able to keep his name among the top 500 wealthiest Americans? Think he wants his brand tarnished like that?

Is Herman Cain in the top ten GOP candidate polls? Does he brag about his wealth as much as Trump? When did he finish his pizza chain executive job, and what has he been doing since then?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Why is Trump a joke? The operative Karl Rove said it before us; we are just assenting.

No offense but Karl Rove hasn't included me in his Evil Email chain. Darn it.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sailwind,

I'm just taking quotes reported from Rove's Fox News visit last week.

He said Trump is "off there in the nutty right" and a "joke candidate" due to the ongoing birth certificate demands.

Someone on this thread said that Obama is spending millions to cover up his place of birth. Why should he when he can get the current Republican governor of Hawaii to say he's legit--for free!

Sure, Trump might run sometime... about the same decade as Palin.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Correction: Neil Abercrombie, the governor of Hawaii is a Democrat. I guess that's why the birther theories persist.

Abercrombie knew the family from being on the University of Hawaii campus. He called Trump "a serial bankrupt" after Trump said Abercrombie was lying. But if Trump was onto something, don't you think by now he would have found some early '60s U of Hawaii students to say that Barack's parents weren't at the University of Hawaii?

If Trump can't even organize a good swiftboating, how can he stay in the game?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Trump's popularity is indicative of how low the republican party has sunk. They literally don't have a single serious candidate for president. President Obama should have a difficult time with re-election but it'll be a cake walk with competition like this.

Taka

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Trump is softening Obama for ANY Republican candidate (except Palin or himself) to kick while he's down - and hopefully never get up. lol

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Trump as President is the only joke bigger than Arnold S. being governor of CA...i question the birthplace of that dead animal that's sitting on Trump's head. The only thing more moronic than this pompus windbag is the idea of people even considering him for President.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Trump is softening Obama for ANY Republican candidate (except Palin or himself) to kick while he's down

Are you serious? Trump is already out there bad-mouthing and tearing down nearly every other potential Republican candidate. His number one target of the past week has not been Obama, but Mitt Romney. Softening Obama...LOL.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Donald Trump wouldn't really run. Donald would drop out just before he has to open his financial books as required for candidates for the Office. Nobody really knows how rich or not he really is because he's always been loathed to disclose it. It doesn't help that a lot of people think Trump is a joke of a businessman, who publicly cheated on his first wife and is already on his 3rd wife, and think probably the only ones voting for him are those who watch "The Apprentice."

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Donald Trump wouldn't really run. Donald would drop out just before he has to open his financial books as required for candidates for the Office

This is my impression as well.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

this is just sad.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

For sure his overriding goal is to remain relevant to to remain pitted against all the other candidates. I don't think Trump will go through the primary process but I do think there is a good chance of a "general election strategy" Independent run. Hurting Obama more than the Republicans IMO.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

proxy: The next US presidential election will be the first one in a long time when the baby boom generation and older will be outnumbered by younger voters. I've thought about this myself. They created something great, and now they seem to want to the the first and last generation to have it. They're doing their best to take it with them when they go...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Hurting Obama more than the Republicans IMO.

Not to be rude, but this realy does seem like wishful thinking. I mean, Trump isn't going to get many left wing/democratic voters. As an indepedent he's going to be skimming votes off the right (especially off a more moderate candidate like Romney). If he does turn out to have a significant impact on the outcome, it's going to be Ross Perot all over again.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Trump's popularity is indicative of how low the republican party has sunk.

Heh, Trump is a registered democrat. Watching liberals eating one of their own is too funny.

RR

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It's tempting to call this a reflection on the Repub base but I think it goes deeper. The New York Times of all sources reported yesterday ("Nations' Mood at Lowest Level in Two Years") the results of their latest poll:70 percent of Americans think that the country is headed in the wrong direction.

Staggering numbers. Almost as bad as Bush at his lowest.

This is gonna bring all kinds out - characters like Trump on their side and clowns like Kucinich and Alan Grayson on ours.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Trump isn't going to get many left wing/democratic voters."

And he has made it very clear that he won't run if it would throw the election to Obama. But the main attraction of any socially liberal billionaire is usually to the young. Perot's support came from youth (and came a lot more from Clinton voters than people acknowledge). If Trump got any votes, a lot of them I think would come from former 2008 young Obama voters who have become disenchanted with him but still aren't ready to make the move to voting for an actual conservative Republican. A lot of Democrats will probably stay home this cycle as well.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Trump WAS once a registered Democrat. However, according to the New York City Board of Elections, in 2009 he switched his party affiliation to Republican, with some speculating his reason for being a run at the Republican presidential bid. What's even more befuddling about Trump was that at one time he was an Independent, and before that a Republican. This guy keeps switching parties left and right.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Trump is a pompous, egotistical idiot.

That said, interest in his possible presidential run is indicative of the desperation of the American voter.

Reasons I think he MAY win: (if he runs...)

He is not a lawyer. Americans tired of lawyers. He is a successful business man. The U.S. Govt. currently has too many career politicians. Obama has not kept many of his campaign promises...

...But all we can do is wait and see.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This is the worst thing that could happen for the GOP! Trump running will insure a 2nd term for Obama which would be catastrophe, if Independents break off and he gets 10 to 20% of their vote...1992 Ross Perot all over again. Trump might well be serious about running, but also this has boosted his TV show "the Apprentice" by 20% up in the ratings and having formerly worked in the Television industry, that is very good. So a bit of it is to promote his previous sagging ratings. But overall to take the man serious, he flip flops on so many issues. The other day, he said in an interview on FOX that as President, he would seize all the Iraqi oil amongst other outlandish statements. He is most definitely NOT a conservative by any means, the man was married 4 or 5 times, filed bankruptcy about as many, always, always brags about how smart, how rich, how good he is. He would actually make Obama look like one of the best Presidents ever. This is the best thing for Obama and the liberals, have Trump run. He would lose in a landslide for sure 100%! Trumps ego is as big as his Real Estate holdings, while he talks about some interesting issues, essentially, he is just way off. He has too much baggage from his past, doesn't know anything about politics. On the average, he can't take any criticism. Remember, he inherited a lot of money from his dad and built his empire based on that, so he already had a head start, so maybe in the business world, he is a powerful, successful business man, but politics...he should just stay out and do what he does best. There isn't really a strong, really strong GOP contender with enough appeal to go against Obama except perhaps Romny or Huckabee, but still.....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The elephant and donkey party are already a mess. Trump should run as an independent, to be the "ejection seat" candidate, and he could win if he gets his objectives in order. Trump stirs memories of H. Ross Perot, without the mind numbing pie charts.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Trump's ego is big? Even Barack Obama's dog is named after his own initials (BO). lol...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I get the feeling he could torpedo the Republican party the way Ross Perot did some years ago. The Democrats must be cheering in public.
