With the altitude in Nepal and it being late October, I would have expected it to have snowed. It is shocking to see persons still in short pants and short-sleeve shirts.
The Nepalese government will need international help dealing with this disaster; it's simply not capable of effectively responding.

Roads in Nepal are typically very poor, IME. Even inside cities, perhaps 10% of roads are up to western standards.
For example, a friend and I were traveling by "express" bus in Nepal. "Express" meant it didn't stop on every corner, but did stop in more villages. A 6 hour trip took 14 hours due to traffic and road problems. Along the way, I feared for my life multiple times on the edge of mountain roads, as very wide vehicles passed or were being passed. Felt like they'd wait until a blind corner to attempt it. There were 3 men (sometimes boys) hanging onto each corner of the bus to help the driver make decisions. Crazy.
