At least 50 were dismissed after saying they could not be impartial in judging Trump, the 2024 Republican candidate for president.

And people say that people cannot be impartial.

If so, they won't be included in the jury pool after excluding themselves.

12 ( +14 / -2 )

i guarantee trump’s team sent out engraved invitations for known maga acolytes to show up as jurors. they get a list of names during the process and can match it to donors and their own list.

one will got on the jury, by hook or by crook.

6 ( +11 / -5 )

The judge in Donald Trump's hush money trial dismissed dozens of potential jurors on Monday who said they could not impartially decide whether the former U.S. president is guilty or innocent of criminal charges.

Good, it sounds like the jury selection process is operating just as it was intended to.

Trump has said he plans to testify in his own defense, a risky move that could open him to cross-examination.

Lol what could go wrong having the world's stablest genius testify in his own case?

15 ( +19 / -4 )

I don't think it is possible to find ANYONE impartial about Trump! Every single person either loves or hates him! LOL

I don't think it is possible to find ANYONE impartial about Trump! Every single person either loves or hates him! LOL

Ah, but that's not the question being asked. It's, "Can you set aside any bias you have, be impartial, and render a verdict based only on the evidence presented in court?"

8 ( +11 / -3 )

Trump has said he plans to testify in his own defense, a risky move that could open him to cross-examination.

Please do. That'll shorten the whole case tremendously, and gives the jail a real incentive to figure out, how to accommodate the Secret Service.

P.S. I wonder, what Sleeping Donni was dreaming about. Any ideas?

5 ( +10 / -5 )

I don't think it is possible to find ANYONE impartial about Trump! Every single person either loves or hates him! LOL

The don’t have to be free of knowledge or opinion. They have to be willing to accept reality and apply the law.

If they do that, Trump is screwed.

6 ( +10 / -4 )

This is a good warm-up to the main event.

As someone who's been a juror, I've seen other jurors get emotional and biased during the trial. It must be harder with someone like Trump.

But you can be - assess the facts not the man. Much as I dislike Trump, I would be proud to deliver a not guilty verdict if the evidence was not sufficient.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

Trump has said he plans to testify in his own defense, a risky move that could open him to cross-examination.

He said he “would” not “will”.

He is a horrible witness and will almost certainly perjure himself if given the chance.

Because he is both stupid AND a narcissistic sociopath, (always a winning combination!), I cannot rule his testifying out. But it’s “unlikely”.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, a Democrat.

A political motivated show trial. It makes a mockery of US justice system.

I would not vote for Donald Trump.

However I will steadfastly huff and puff for Donald Trump to stand for office, and the US people deicide if he is fit for office.

There is more than a whiff of festering illiberal leanings around the Democrats.

-12 ( +4 / -16 )

However I will steadfastly huff and puff for Donald Trump to stand for office, and the US people deicide if he is fit for office.

What are you talking about? The American people don't decide if he's guilty at the polls.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, a Democrat.

A political motivated show trial. It makes a mockery of US justice system.

There is no evidence that it is politically motivated. Alvin Bragg is also male, but this case isn't driven by gender.

I would not vote for Donald Trump.

However I will steadfastly huff and puff for Donald Trump to stand for office, and the US people deicide if he is fit for office.

That is what is happening.

There is more than a whiff of festering illiberal leanings around the Democrats.

Bold claim. Provide some evidence please.

LOL.

That ship's done sailed...

There is nothing about this case that's anything more than political theater,

but do, let's not have impartial jury members!

-10 ( +3 / -13 )

This whole crazy media circus, is a shameless politically farcical manipulation of the US Justice system.

Donald Trump is democrats worst nightmare, Beelzebub, Milton's Paradise Lost in a blue suit.

Please.

LOL.

That ship's done sailed...

Did you read the article. Jurors are determining whether than can be impartial and they are dismissed if they can't.

There is nothing about this case that's anything more than political theater,

How do you determine that?

but do, let's not have impartial jury members!

The opposite. Let's have impartial jury members.

This whole crazy media circus, is a shameless politically farcical manipulation of the US Justice system.

I would say that Trump is all American's Republican or Democrat's worst nightmare. But that has nothing to do with this case.

2020hindsights pull that lever.

Well, I have yet to hear any evidence for your bold claims. I know you feel that this is the case, but you have to have some evidence to convince me.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

This whole crazy media circus, is a shameless politically farcical manipulation of the US Justice system.

Any thoughts on the trial, or are you just content to whine about how everything is just so unfair for the world's brokest billionaire?

3 ( +6 / -3 )

This isn’t a show trial. He was indicted by a grand jury. He’s being shown more latitude than any other criminal defendant would be.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

This whole crazy media circus, is a shameless politically farcical manipulation of the US Justice system.

By whom?

Has it ever occurred to you that Donald Trump might just be a bit of a criminal? Or is the thought of that a bit too much to cope with?

7 ( +10 / -3 )

Trying to get a MAGA loon in the jury. Pathetic.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

Cards fan, I have great respect for the US justice system, the US constitution. I believe the US people are truly free to govern themselves, even though I have never put a toe on US soil.

Donald Trump is probably guilty of something, anything, he clearly pulls people strings.

I find this whole sorry Trump saga a lesson in how not to hold the fellow accountable.

Trump is neither a diplomat or a politician in anyway shape or form.

However he scares the living daylights out of the establishment.

Maybe the establishment, needs a wake up call .

I don't think it is possible to find ANYONE impartial about Trump! Every single person either loves or hates him! LOL

Not everyone follows politics.

You mean there are some Americans out there who remain unaware of Jan 6th? That's like being unaware of 9/11.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

Falsifying business records in New York is a felony

it’s a misdemeanor unless linked to another crime.

-10 ( +3 / -13 )

Ahh 2020hindsights my friend, not a claim, just my humble opinion. it is a take or leave it thing.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

A political motivated show trial. It makes a mockery of US justice system.

The above a parrot of the minority and their media that believe the cult leader can do nothing wrong, which stands in stark contrast with those, probably the majority, again polls don't count, that believe no one, not even a narcissistic psychopath should be above the law just because he had a rich daddy and was raised and has long lived as a privileged member of the elite establishment.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

And no, federal election interference isn’t the “other crime” that makes a misdemeanor a felony.

“The Justice Department in 2019 "effectively concluded" its investigation into Trump’s payments. In 2021, the Federal Elections Commission, the agency dedicated to enforcing campaign finance laws, announced that it had dropped a case looking into whether Trump had violated election laws for the payment to Daniels.”

The [FEC] looked at this and said that this settlement was not a violation of federal law. The Justice Department also has criminal enforcement authority over federal campaign finance laws, and the Justice Department has also not considered this a crime.

-10 ( +4 / -14 )

Falsifying business records in New York is a felony

it’s a misdemeanor unless linked to another crime.

Golly, you should tell the judge!

I mean, it’s almost like he hasn’t considered that one!

Lol.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

“The Justice Department in 2019 "effectively concluded" its investigation into Trump’s payments. In 2021, the Federal Elections Commission, the agency dedicated to enforcing campaign finance laws, announced that it had dropped a case looking into whether Trump had violated election laws for the payment to Daniels.

lol Yes. It wasn't a crime because Trump's justice department said so. Brilliant. lmao

4 ( +7 / -3 )

@J101: P.S. I wonder, what Sleeping Donni was dreaming about. Any ideas?

Probably his next scam, or perhaps what he'll say in his next rant on his blog, knowing it's leaking money like everything he's involved in. And who to attack on his money losing blog, plus maybe beg his cult and billionaire backers to send him more of their money, promising the latter even bigger tax breaks.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

ClippetyClop

After Donald Trumps term in high office, he has been accused of bending the system out of shape. no doubt.

The fun day out introducing North Korean dictator Supreme leader Kim Jong Un a country devoted totalitarianism his nuclear football, was enough to send the entire US political establishment into a unprecedented collective stroke.

Remember speaker of the house Nancy Pelosi in a furious fit of anger ripping apart state of the union speech

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ty92wz0K-CM

How far would you go to stop Trump returning to the Whitehouse?

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

Finally! Trump indicted on criminal charges. Excellent! No more delay, delay, delay. Judge Merchan doesn't play. There were reports that Trump was sleeping in court, and he calls Biden "Sleepy Joe." How ironic.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

“Hush” money: not a crime

Falsifying biz records: if so, misdemeanor

but a conviction is required.

So the only question remaining is what punishment this judge will dare to give without it backfiring on his masters and being overturned.

-14 ( +2 / -16 )

“Hush” money: not a crime

Not "hush money." Campaign finance violation.

Trump's own attorney went to jail for this same incident. How?

8 ( +10 / -2 )

and the Justice Department has also not considered this a crime.

Wow quick tell the judge. You could get the whole case tossed with your encyclopedic legal knowledge.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

The judge himself should be excluded from the case for his own extreme anti-Trump political bias!

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

Wow quick tell the judge. You could get the whole case tossed with your encyclopedic legal knowledge.

Yeah, the judge is a dummy. If he had gone to Trump University, he'd know how the law really works.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

lol Yes. It wasn't a crime because Trump's justice department said so. Brilliant. lmao

Biden’s DOJ as well. Rofl

the DOJ and FEC need to bring federal crimes (isn’t that what that “F” stands for?) not an elected Democrat local prosecutor.

-12 ( +1 / -13 )

Merchan said he would not permit witnesses or prosecutors to tell the jury that the affair took place while Trump's wife Melania was pregnant with their child.

So instead? the biased judge informs the entire world instead. The jury isn’t sequestered and hasn’t even been selected.

plus this is also: not a crime.

-11 ( +1 / -12 )

How does one find a jury of peers for someone accused of 27 sexual assaults, that we know of? How many Trump-like psychopaths can there be in this world?

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Biden’s DOJ as well. Rofl

And yet his own attorney went to jail for campaign finance violation for this same incident. How'd that happen?

the DOJ and FEC need to bring federal crimes (isn’t that what that “F” stands for?) not an elected Democrat local prosecutor.

Wrong.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Cards fan, Trump has never, or could ever be remotely described as either a politician or a diplomat.

Obama, Clinton (both), are longstanding career politicians Unarguably.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

“Hush” money: not a crime

Falsifying biz records: if so, misdemeanor

For the purpose of effecting an election. There’s your felony.

But weren’t you saying just yesterday that the affair never happened (stifles a snigger)?

Now we’re down to “just a misdemeanor”?

Talk about flailing around for an excuse…

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Cards fan, Trump has never, or could ever be remotely described as either a politician or a diplomat.

Only if you think a "president" isn't a politician. Most people would find this assertion bonkers.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

President, Prime Minster, Supreme leader, if you will is a term of office.

Whether the occupant espouses to be a politician or diplomat is another matter altogether.

Don't you think.

I once fetched and carried for so called politicians earning my college fees.

Most were failed lawyer, dishonestly was a badge of honour.

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

I don't think it is possible to find ANYONE impartial about Trump! Every single person either loves or hates him! LOL

The Trump articles are always good for some ridiculous takes.

This is an examples of the TDS or Trump hater type as if criticizing a rentier, cognitively challenged , politically, economically grifting charlatan is an example of "hate" against some oppressed individual or class.

Many on the left could have forgiven Trump for all his porn star dealing and infidelity, outrageous statements and sheisterism if he had held up to his talk of taking on Wall Street unlike Hilary.

Did not happen. FAIL

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Whether the occupant espouses to be a politician or diplomat is another matter altogether.

Nonsense. The act of running for office makes one a politician.

https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/politician

7 ( +8 / -1 )

The jury isn’t sequestered and hasn’t even been selected.

Gonna be hard to sequester a jury that hasn't been selected yet.

Love how you just dismantled your own argument in the same post. lmao

8 ( +9 / -1 )

How far would you go to stop Trump returning to the Whitehouse?

If it is the will of the people, then I wouldn’t do a damn thing, because a successful democracy involves sharing power even when we don’t get the guy we voted for.

I can pretty much guarantee that Trump will lose the popular vote for the third time, but I cannot make a similar guarantee for our electoral college results, but I am cautiously optimistic.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

if Adam Schiff would have been tried in Texas or Tennessee, for lying and about Russian collusion you think he would get a fair trial according to Dems?

Why would he have been tried in Texas or Tennessee? Ifs and buts won’t help Bass. Crime is prosecuted where it is alleged to have happened. You can’t pick the state to have a trial.

And remember in NYC Democrats outnumber Republicans 10-1

Boohoo. Too bad. Should have banged a pornstar and broke the law in Wichita.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

I would express extremely strong bias against Trump because I don't want to waste any of the time in my life as a juror for a Trump trial.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

so conceive a method, barriers to prevent Trump from the ballot box .

Democrats made him do all of the things he has 4 indictments and 88 charges for. They also made sure Biden has zero indictments. It’s all a big plot to keep 45 out of the whitehouse. Masterminded by Biden and Pelosi, who masterfully fooled the right into believing they are harmless doddering old seniors.

Yeah, that sounds plausible.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Why would he have been tried in Texas or Tennessee?

Relax, it was just for arguments sake.

Ifs and buts won’t help Bass.

And neither trying to stop the Trump train.

Crime is prosecuted where it is alleged to have happened.

What crime?

You can’t pick the state to have a trial.

Again, this was hypothetical, we do this in life all the time, anyway, if that were the case, we know the Republicans wouldn’t let Schiff off, that’s a fact.

Boohoo. Too bad.

Well, I feel the same for my State and Florida.

Should have banged a pornstar and broke the law in Wichita.

You think that’s worse than banging a Chinese spy? Hmmm…

Funny how everyone on this case are Democrats or either donated to Biden or Obama…

-10 ( +1 / -11 )

Trump's own attorney went to jail for this same incident. How?

stupidly pled guilty to a non crime they charged him with to try to “flip” him.

And lied to Congress and the court in testimony.

-11 ( +1 / -12 )

Pecker will be the key witness to tie the hush money to Trump's attempt to defraud the American people of their vote by concealing his moral depravity and thus depriving them of the possibility of judging his true character as that of a person unfit for the highest office in the land when they went to cast their vote. Lock him up!

4 ( +5 / -1 )

For the purpose of effecting an election. There’s your felony.

a federal election, wasn’t it?

Like something the DOJ or let’s say the Federal Election Commission would say was wrong? Hint: they didn’t and still haven’t.

-14 ( +0 / -14 )

Gonna be hard to sequester a jury that hasn't been selected yet.

Love how you just dismantled your own argument in the same post. lmao

exactly my point. The biased judge instead used the liberal media to tell the entire jury and the entire world what he claims….he isn’t going to allow the jury to hear? Well they just heard it. The entire jury pool.

-13 ( +1 / -14 )

For the purpose of effecting an election. There’s your felony.

*a federal election, wasn’t it? *

*Like something the DOJ or let’s say the Federal Election Commission would say was wrong? Hint: they didn’t and still haven’t.*

And yet here we are. Actually here he is.

If only the judge was as knowledgeable of the law as you are, lol.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

stupidly pled guilty to a non crime they charged him with to try to “flip” him.

lol Why would he plead guilty to a crime that wasn't even a crime? Surely a trained lawyer, and his trained lawyer, would know if there was no crime. Surely they'd challenge it or file an appeal, that hasn't happened.

I'll tell you why: because your assertion it wasn't a crime is absurd.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Trump has said he plans to testify in his own defense, a risky move that could open him to cross-examination.

And that will be comedy gold...

In addition to the series of "Bing, Bam, Whoosh, (unintelligible), Bing!"....we'll get a few other gems like at his rally yesterday;

"In further xenophobic rants, he seemed to try to tell a story about an “illegal alien,” but struggled to pronounce the word “alien,” instead coming up with something like: “An illegal adleeitathin, and you just look at this what’s happening, it’s it crazy? Really?”

https://washingtonpress.com/2024/04/14/aphasia-mental-deterioration-on-excruciating-display-at-pennsylvania-trump-rally/

I can't wait until Trump takes the stand, then points at the court reporter and says; "That man is an illegal adleeitathin!"....

Our MAGA-friends can hide their eyes and delude themselves all they want, Trump is showing us each day his clear mental deterioration...

I've been saying for at least a year he'll be in a cell before Nov - I think it's now just as likely he'll be institutionalized...

that this prosecution is politically driven?

Well, that depends, being knowledgeable and having a political agenda are two different things.

-12 ( +1 / -13 )

*David Pecker, the former head of the National Enquirer tabloid,** will testify that he ran stories in the tabloid to boost Trump's 2016 campaign, prosecutor Joshua Steinglass said.*

I for one am worried that the sheer entertainment value, memeability of the proceedings is a strategy that will benefit Trump and that will be the downfall of the last tatters of American democracy.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

that this prosecution is politically driven?

For 4 of those seven years Defendant Trump was immune from prosecution, and while I too wish that he’d been charged earlier, being an older crime doesn’t reduce its criminality.

Maybe try to interfere in an election in a red state next time?

Like GA? Oh, wait. He did that too.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Surely they'd challenge it or file an appeal, that hasn't happened.

he did appeal once he found out they tricked/scared his stupid self into pleading guilty to a non crime.

Appeal Denied because he lied and used fake cases in support of his position.

So now he must follow through with the “get Trump” demands.

Hilarious letter to USA Today....

"I would like to personally thank PRESIDENT Donald Trump for having the guts to sit in a Manhattan courtroom and stand up for my God-given right to face allegations that I slept with an adult film star and then paid her off in order to win an election.

Like most Americans, I have an ever-present fear that I will one day become embroiled in a hush money scandal involving an actress featured in the classic 2002 film “Trailer Trash Nurses 6." So I was both humbled and relieved to see Trump post this on social media before his trial began Monday morning: “When I walk into that courtroom, I know I will have the love of 200 million Americans behind me, and I will be FIGHTING for the FREEDOM of 325 MILLION AMERICANS!”

Damn right!

MY president is out there fighting for MY freedom in the event I ever face a 34-count felony indictment charging me with scheming to benefit my presidential campaign by burying allegations of lurid sexual affairs.

That could theoretically happen to me at any time, so I thank the Lord that Donald Trump is willing to take the slings and arrows of the liberal law-followers who might attempt to hold me accountable for something “illegal.”

And now we get from a Trump-insider what Melania really thinks about her husband's indiscretion...

"Grisham had earlier revealed in an interview with CNN that Melania reacted very strongly to the news of her husband's affair. According to the former aide, the mother of one "didn't take it lightly at all," leading to tensions in the White House at the time.

She also explained Melania's decision to attend the State of the Union separately, revealing that she didn't want to emulate Hillary Clinton, who stood by her husband, Bill Clinton, during the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

Similar to the initial emergence of the Daniels allegations, Grisham also believes that the current trial situation has caused concern for Trump. She claimed that Melania finds the situation "very embarrassing" and "humiliating," saying this was the reason behind Donald's worry."

There was once a consensus in US political thinking, to quote, how decisions regarding the distribution of values should be made.

Not anymore, to suggest that the defamation of Trump is not politically motivated could, I contend will, if Trump ever makes it to the ballot box come back to haunt the democrats.

The judge in Donald Trump's hush money trial dismissed dozens of potential jurors on Monday who said they could not impartially decide whether the former U.S. president is guilty or innocent of criminal charges.

Is there anyone impartial left in the US? Judging by the vitriol any article about Trump on JT generates , probably not.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

Good thing Trump didn't look out the window and see how few of his supporters showed up to help defend him....but those few that did show up were true, hard-core MAGA-warriors...

"Of the people willing to step up to a microphone outside the courthouse and defend Mr Trump for allegedly paying off a porn star to hide his alleged affair from prospective voters, two offered something of a wild defense: that they opposed the charges because they too had paid for sex on more than one occasion, and assumed most men had done the same. “That’s what we do as men, you know?”

Obviously this individual also recently purchased a Trump bible...

"Another supporter, who identified himself as “Gary from Staten Island,” delivered an animated and updated interpretation of Dwight D Eisenhower’s speech on the military-industrial complex to a confused reporter from German television news, expertly connecting the dots between the war in Ukraine, the British establishment and Stormy Daniels."

Indeed, it's just so obvious that Stormy Daniels is in cahoots with Zelensky and Sunak....

https://www.yahoo.com/news/outside-historic-first-criminal-trial-221223733.html

He got it only partially right - he forgot to include Taylor Swift...

Welcome to MAGA-the-crazy-is-off-the-scale-world...

Underscoring the difficulty, only about a third of the 96 people in the first panel of potential jurors remained after the judge excused some members. More than half the group was excused after telling the judge they could not be fair and impartial. At least nine more were excused after raising their hands when Merchan asked if they could not serve for any other reason.

A female juror was excused after saying she had strong opinions about Trump. Earlier in the questionnaire, the woman, a Harlem resident, indicated she could be neutral in deciding the case. But when asked whether she had strong opinions about the former president, the woman answered matter-of-factly: "Yes."

When Merchan asked her to repeat the response, she replied: "Yeah, I said yes." She was dismissed.

Merchan has written that the key is "whether the prospective juror can assure us that they will set aside any personal feelings or biases and render a decision that is based on the evidence and the law."

Not an easy task. And he’s battling three other criminal indictments in Florida, Washington DC and Georgia and is appealing two further judgements against him in New York (that required him to post multimillion dollar bonds). And he will still be laughing at it in the end. I mean, this guy’s Superman, just let him go. These are all politically motivated anyway. Heheh.

And people say that people cannot be impartial.

If so, they won't be included in the jury pool after excluding themselves.

You forget to mention or realize that not every biased potential juror will exclude themselves.

I think Turley says it best. If any liberal should know how these people think it’s this constitutional law professor.

Indeed...

"As details emerged from the shocking indictment against the former president where prosecutors outlined numerous instances of Trump allegedly hiding classified documents and showing them to people, Fox News brought on legal commentator Jonathan Turley to break down the case.

His analysis: It's not good for Trump.

"It is an extremely damning indictment," Turley, a conservative jurist and the Shapiro Professor of Public Interest Law at George Washington University, said.

Good thing Trump didn't look out the window and see how few of his supporters showed up to help defend him....but those few that did show up were true, hard-core MAGA-warriors...

Kind of not surprising since 90% of Manhattan voted against Trump.

One could say the same about DC on January 6th.

Maybe (definitely) it’s because his cult know they can go to jail for rioting and they decided to stay home.

Trump keeps saying "Sleepy Joe".

And in court yesterday, Trump himself falls asleep❗

I would as well. Nothing to see, boring.

And where oh where is darling Melanie?

Probably home with her son.

Too busy scrapbooking to support her man?

Trying and trying, I see.

I was reading the article carefully to find this:

the case concerns an unlawful scheme to corrupt the 2016 election by burying a scandalous story that would have harmed Trump's campaign.

Was it then illegal to pay people hush money in the US?

How does this hush money payment become a scheme to corrupt the 2016 election?

Even a biased jury will struggle to convict him, I imagine.

I was rooting for Biden in 2020 due to Trump’s handling of Covid during his re-election year campaign, but throwing all these trials at Trump now as he seeks election again does put me back in his camp, especially given how much worse Biden has been than he made out he would be.

The big problem here is that while sound minded people will logically be against Trump and call themselves out as not being fit to be jurors in this case, Trump supporters are the kind of people that would never have the honesty to give up an advantage to help their idol. I'm afraid the replacing of jurors will just continue until most of them consists of pro trump people.

As usual Turley gets it right.

It is a repeat of the case involving former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards. In 2012, the Justice Department used the same theory to charge the former Democratic presidential candidate after a disclosure that he not only had an affair with filmmaker Rielle Hunter but also hid the fact that he had a child by her. Edwards denied the affair, and money from donors was passed to Hunter to keep the matter quiet.

The Justice Department spent a huge amount on the case to show that the third-party payments were a circumvention of campaign finance laws. However, Edwards was ultimately found not guilty on one count while the jury deadlocked on the other five.

With Trump, the Justice Department declined a repeat of the Edwards debacle and did not bring any federal charge.

But Bragg then used the alleged federal crime to bootstrap a defunct misdemeanor charge into a felony in the current case. He is arguing that Trump intentionally lied when his former lawyer Michael Cohen listed the payments as retainer costs rather than a payment — to avoid reporting it as a campaign contribution to himself.

Thus, if he had simply had Cohen report the payment as “hush money,” there would be no crime.

Likewise, John Podesta, Clinton’s campaign chairman, was called before congressional investigators and denied categorically any contractual agreement with Fusion GPS. Sitting beside him was Elias, who reportedly said nothing to correct the misleading information given to Congress.

Yet, there were no charges stemming from the hiding of the funding, though it was all part of the campaign budget.

Making this assorted business even more repellent will be the appearance of Cohen himself on the stand. Cohen recently was denounced by a judge as a serial perjurer who is continuing to game the system.

Cohen has a long record as a legal thug who has repeatedly lied when it served his interests. He has a knack for selling his curious skill set to powerful figures like Trump and now Bragg.

Ok, so he’s not credible, but we knew that

For those of us who have been critics of Cohen from when he was still working for Trump, it is mystifying that anyone would call him to the stand to attest to anything short of the time of day . . . and even then most of us would check our watches.

Fortunately witnesses are no longer required to put their hand on the bible in swearing to testify truthfully in court. Otherwise, the court would need the New York Fire Department standing by in case the book burst into flames.

Yup! Yeah, it takes a liberal to know one.

what did he say about THIS case?

I loved to see trump declared guilty soon! It will raise my opinion of this country.

True, but I kind'a think their attire - red MAGA hat, "Trump That Bitc*" T-Shirt, Nazi tattoos, Confederate flag pins, and Trump gold tennis shoes will give them away...

This has got to be the most difficult jury selection in the history of juries. Its hard to imagine there being many potential jurors out there who don't either really really love or really really hate Trump.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

No way. Leftists would love to be “the one” to “get Trump”. Would he their lifetime achievement.

Thus the questions by counsel, dismissal for cause and 10 slots to each side for (almost) any reason, Matlock.

It’s called jury selection.

Did they not cover that at internet law school?

4 ( +5 / -1 )

America's elites have handed Trump too many nails to hammer into the coffin of their justice system which from Scotus down in has lost the trust of Americans, millions of whom can no longer even tell right from wrong making it difficult to find a jury which is not comprised of "12 angry men" (or women).

Commit felonies in Bama or W. Virginia next time. Sounds like he thinks he’d be home free, lol.

Politically bias

FYI, the correct adjective is "biased".

And the jury selection process is not biased.

Team Trump had better come up with a better defense than whining and stamping their feet.

Like I said, the Dems are trying their best. Wonder if these guys get any sleep, finding some teeny-weeny nugglets.

Yes, it is very biased.

Team Trump had better come up with a better defense than whining and stamping their feet.

So move the trial to Texas and then we can watch and see if the left knows how to "square dance"

Don seems to be getting his sleep in court, lol.

Is “nugglets” like nuggets?

There are some microscopic ones sitting in the defendant’s chair.

They fell out of Trump's pocket.

Couldn’t even stay awake the very first day of his trial (maybe if he didn’t rant-post all night?), but Joe is the sleepy one, lol.

Perhaps he was just deeply thinking about “Horrible, beautiful Gettysburg” or how “Lee is no longer in favor”?

Seriously, WTF was that?

They fell out of Trump's pocket.

I think they fell out of Bragg's bag of tricks.

Don seems to be getting his sleep in court, lol.

He was trying to in court, don't blame him, the book is boring

Is “nugglets” like nuggets?

But smaller

There are some microscopic ones sitting in the defendant’s chair.

Bragg should brush them away then.

If one observed the proceedings in court yesterday, there were a few key takeaways.

Biggest is the bipolar nature of the case. Remember it is about "falsifying business records" but the prosecutors are having trouble articulating who is the actual victim/s. Clearly not Stormy or Cohen - who received large cash payments.

This is where the prosecutors shape-shift and make some innuendo about "election interference" and imply that the entire state of NY is the victim. Very dubious stuff because he is not charged with that or anything like that.

That's where the partisan nature of Bragg's case becomes starkly apparent and looks more a textbook case in political persecution. It's a case in search of victim and a crime when the objective has already been set.

Judge also shut down there attempts to introduce into evidence the tales of three other women who made allegations against Trump because it was clearly prejudicial. Clearly a shaky case. The two main witnesses have some severe credibility issues.

Well, that is every day with Biden, every single day.

Perhaps he was just deeply thinking about “Horrible, beautiful Gettysburg” or how “Lee is no longer in favor”?

Wasn't Biden in that war?

Seriously, WTF was that?

We ask ourselves that very question.
