What terrible news. I didn't follow the story very much because I was sure they would make it. My sincere condolences to their loved ones.

Sad news for their families on the eve of the holidays.

kind hearted wishes but there are no holidays until XMAS in NZ. tragic end for a great community, the coast hasn't had much luck with mining.

Was mentioned on other news programs(channels) too.

RIP, hoping they didn't have to suffer long.

Didn't see it at all mentioned on Japanese TV. Perhaps NZ isn't important enough compared to Chile.

I did, it was on NHK's 6 pm news update as the first item mentioned. The 7 pm news was given over mostly to the North Korean shelling of the South Korean island, which is understandable.

Very very sad news and I had hoped for good news. RIP!

this is absolutely heart breaking. on the new zealand news, they had an interview with the father of the 17 year old down there and he just broke down completely.

my thoughts go out to each and every one of them.

One of the miners was a 17 year old who had been on the job for an hour. No joke. When it's your time, it's your time.

This is not a good day for all New Zealanders! Kiwi's all around the world feeling the pain and tragedy for the 29 miners and their families! R.I.P :(

Real sad news. I think the decision not to send rescuers down the shaft will turn out to have been the right call.

Unfortunately, all 29 of them have been confirmed dead. RIP.

Unfortunately a second massive explosion today has reduced the chances of the guys trapped there still being alive to nil. Was hoping for a miraculous rescue like they pulled off in Chile but looks like it is not to be. Sad day for NZ.
