Why not simply stop planting it? Plant food that we can eat, instead?
I don't think everybody needs to drop meat all together. Reducing consumption would be an easier suggestion for many people to take. Start with Meatless Monday. (Growing up old-school Catholic, we always had meatless Friday, so that doesn't seem like a strain). Give yourself some time to learn some no-meat or low-meat recipes.
Anyone else here tried the Beyond Meat burgers at A&W? Carl's Jr. is now offering them as well. I like them, and surprisingly, so does every meat-eater I've heard from who's tried them.

It is well known that the principal source of greenhouse gases is our food system.
Changing our eating habits is inevitable if we want to reduce our emissions. Unfortunately, between climate change deniers, those who plain and simple refuse to change their habits, and politicians will only short term goals, nothing will be done.

The current status of beef production is unsustainable, esp as more and more people in the world want to eat it, more and more often.

Cows fart methanol, which is a much more stronger green house gas than CO2. Its actually prettty scaring when you think how the number of cows our there.

Ok. But I said food system.
That includes food production, transport, stocking, disposal.
When we talk about the food system, it's not only farms and farm animals. There's a much bigger system around it that is polluting, wasteful, and not so healthy in the end.
And diminishing meat consumption means diminishing all of that.

This article is a little wobbly. It initially says 'beef', but humans would inevitably increase the number of horses or sheep or pigs or chicken to compensate, so 'beef' per se is not really the main problem.
Gradually as you read through the article it seems to be pointing at red meat, and then adds pork, and chicken, or more specifically how it is processed, and then it talks about livestock farming in general.
If there is an agenda here, surely it should be stated first, rather than this shifting of focus.

@taj I mean grains that are not suitable for human consumption because of quality concerns. Specifically naturally occurring DON and OTA toxins that render some grains unsafe for human consumption. There is also really low tolerances for things like fecal matter, mostly from mice, that results in large amounts of grain being classified as feed, not food.

The key point is "...consumer to embrace a more diverse diet" .... well, Good point, but...
If these people, could stop for one moment, and take a look around them at the Real world, (I'm being polite), they will see Millions of people on the Breadline, who CAN'T afford a diverse diet, let alone Meats of any type ! (Look at the UK's Food Banks for starters!).
Cheap McDonald's Burgers and Fries can easily become a "Staple" diet for a Family facing financial issues - note Cheap and Burgers (meat!.. Beef! [of a sort]) .... something's being done right there, but the meat isn't high grade and as such isn't exactly healthy. But goes towards filling stomachs....
And to counter the do-it-yourself-vegans, even when you try to grow your own, on an shared allotment, you find someone sneaks in and steals the lot - such is the desperation of Others. (Happens in Japan too, I've had my own small crop of Carrots & Potatoes pulled from my back garden - & no rabbits here in Central Tokyo).
First and foremostly, this poverty issue needs to be addressed, before some bigwig wealthy person, stands up making grandiose noises that are just nonsense to those in need. It's sad that such an discussion gets newsworthy time rather than the efforts being made by some to address the needs of those people really in need!
And anyway, who cares how much Cattle Farts contribute towards Greenhouse gases... I can tell you, after a can of baked beans, I probably contribute way more! Ah, but the processing of those beans in the first place adds to Global warming, to they'll be next on the list I guess....
Growing meat in the Lab, is a nice Science thing, but at present fails to deliver on a mass scale cost benefit. Alternatives have been around for many years - look, for example at Quorn - though it's not exactly cheap nor a taste replacement.
And, for the Animal rights folks, if anything, the recent wider-scale introduction of Halal products should be banned as that is totally cruel for the Animals... right ?
For those who can afford a diverse diet, they probably are already intelligent enough to have some diversity in taste - though It's not all about Steak every day.
Look at the Far Eastern Asian Cuisine - thinly sliced Pork and Beef strips - not Western style 200g++ slabs of meat - for example the Japanese Shabu Shabu:- "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shabu-shabu". Unfortunately purchasing such thinly sliced meats isn't readily available within Western Countries - unless you visit Speciality shops... perhaps that needs to change ?

Convert animal pasture to the ecosystems pre-agriculture. Rebuild those ecosystems and introduce game animals for widespread hunting. Train everyone from the ages of 18 to use hunting rifles. If you want meat you can get it yourself and pay a small yearly fee to help expand and maintain the system. In the meantime we gain people familiar with firearms which is great for an added layer of national defense.
Thats about 3 or 4 problems fixed in one plan.

Imo intensive livestock farming is the main culprit here. Less beef/chicken/pork and more deer/wildboar/hare/rabbit/kangaroo/duck etc meat would suit me all right. Same re vegies & fruits, fish etc i.e eat primarily what your immediate environment provides and stop importing exotic meats/fruits all year round.
That would instantly reduce everyone's carbon footprint.

No, the point is, “No meat, no life!” I love meat and there’s No way on this planet that I would give it up. The proper place for veggies in my humble opinion is in the trash.

Typically the Global elite feast it up in upmarket places of the world probably eating Caviar and Lobster washed down with Champagne - then lecture to the average person how to live their lives.
Well I'm shocked we have another Climate Change Cultist is now telling us that cause of Greenhouse gases is Cattle, its hilarious these people are building unreliable wind farms because good old reliable coal is just nasty now they're telling us its just cattle only a few weeks ago they were trying to tell us termites were the cause.
Relax everyone have a good cup of Matcha Tea, don't be conned by these people.
