They are a bit unique and don’t need vaccinations so much, because they will fight the virus just mentally away, at coffee shops with tons of drugs. lol

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte apologized for the June 26 lockdown relaxation and called it “an error of judgment.”

It looks like nearly all the world's governments made an 'error in judgement'. The US finally got the Presidential address that it should have a year ago but people still are not using their heads.

Coronavirus infections in the Netherlands skyrocketed by more than 500% over the last week,

Is it a coincidence that these left leaning countries are seeing a surge in these cases?

One other factor not mentioned is that mask wearing was never really accepted. Social pressure following relaxation meant that people felt unable to be a lone mask-wearer in public any more.

Despite the alarming rise in confirmed cases, hospital admissions increased by a modest 11%, or 60 COVID-19 patients, over the week, the institute said. Twelve of the admissions were to intensive care units.

Hardly a major problem that necessitates the draconian measures being applied!

It's not a coincidence, because you're making stuff up.

You are assuming this is the whole extent of the problem, that things could not get worse. The measure is not meant only to prevent things going as bad as they have now but going much worse before settling again.

It may be slightly off topic, but the efforts to vaccinate as much of the population of the world as soon as possible, even in developing countries had as one of the selling points the decrease of the risk of new variants causing precisely this. Unless the transmission is interrupted globally there will be always a chance that a new variant could appear and pull back efforts weeks or even months back.

I love dancing and miss going out but you'd have to be looking for a Darwin award going clubbing right now. In Amsterdam of all places...

The US, as another article makes it clear, is also experiencing a rise in Covid cases.

This puts the right-wingers here in an awkward position. Is the US actually a left-wing country? In which case, it makes sense that Biden (or, let's be real, anyone but Trump) was legitimately elected because he got more votes than Trump did.

Or is it a right-wing country, which disproves Perry's slapdash hypothesis?

It can't be both.

Netherlands was also a country that initially had a laissez-faire attitude towards Covid, before it bit them in the ass:

After months of discouraging the use of masks, saying they promote a false sense of security, the government just did an about face, calling for them to be worn in all public spaces.

And topping it all off, the royal family, ignoring the government’s advice to travel as little as possible, flew off to their luxurious holiday home in Greece, adding to growing mistrust and resentment at home.

Britain? Spain? No. It’s the Netherlands, one of Europe’s wealthiest countries, renowned for its efficient and organized government in most circumstances — but not, apparently, in the pandemic.

OMG - 52000 cases in a week! 500% increase! It's time to panic!

Oh, wait, 7th paragraph - Despite the alarming rise in confirmed cases, hospital admissions increased by a modest 11%, or 60 COVID-19 patients, over the week, the institute said. Twelve of the admissions were to intensive care units.

So hospital admissions went from 54 last week to 60 this week (that's an 11% gain). 12 people out of 52000 were admitted to the ICU - or one in 4,000 cases. And the article said nothing about any fatalities (it surely would have if there had been any to report.) Time to unpanic!

Let people test for the virus and antibodies for free!

Having an infection but being asymptomatic would have the infected counted and placed in a table of stats.

Having not experienced any type of lockdown yet having come into contact with infected people has not changed my life in the slightest.

Why not?

Well, by know it is patently obvious what it is that we are looking out for.

I wished to have a test for my own peace of mind (have had several since) but tests are not available in Japan being asymptomatic.

I could have been shedding the virus all over but the system said ‘No!’

Maybe I had it or didn’t ?

That is/was the problem.

The US, as another article makes it clear, is also experiencing a rise in Covid cases.

The US is perhaps unique in the world in that there is a determined and organized right wing resistance to vaccinations and to any sort of public health measures to reduce transmission. Many state legislatures are passing laws that prohibit schools and other public institutions from requiring vaccinations or mask wearing. A news reader claimed on TV that some viruses are meant to kill people, that this is a necessary thing in evolutionary terms and claimed using a vaccination to stop the virus was against nature. Amazing! In some places you can feel the hatred of others towards you if you are wearing a mask in public. I personally do not give a rip what anything thinks of me but it does put you on your guard. It is the most perverse and inexplicable thing in the world the attitude too many Americans take towards stopping this pandemic.

Most of these Netherlands cases are found among the young. The UK faces the same situation if it opens soon.

. There isn’t enough misinformation being spread already, so it’s nice to see you doing your part.

You keep trying though as everyone can see.

Cases in the UK already going through the roof.

Wimbledon and Wembley will have helped, just like the mass orange support for Max Verstappen in the Dutch stand at the Austrian Grand Prix at the beginning of July.

Things getting back to normal?

With infections rising around France,

France will make vaccinations mandatory for some jobs.

Despite the alarming rise in confirmed cases, hospital admissions increased by a modest 11%, or 60 COVID-19 patients, over the week, the institute said.

What percentage of the new cases will result in long Covid though?

Right, but it can be the left-wingers manipulated election results.

Zichi - In my days in Amersterdam, a city I love, I went dancing in a place called the Paradiso. Opened in 1968 and still going strong. So much good music.

I was feeling old at 40 posting about clubbing but I am reassured its all in the head now :D Still strutting that stuff who gives a f? Even with both vaccine doses I don't want to be in a enclosed space with other people. France got at least this one thing right.
