I am very unhappy with this guy, This guy is all set for self destruction while the whole world watches and he is taking the filipino people with him...This guy doesn't think things through, If they require americans to apply visas everytime they will tour the Philippines, he will kill the tourism industry! Philippines is not the only country the americans can go to, face the fact, we need them more than they need us!

China, he said earlier, was “good”. “It has never invaded a piece of my country all these generations.”

Oh what do you call them building a man made island within our territory and prohibiting our own people to fish there.

I wish America and EU withdraw all their support from Philippines. Withdraw all the investments etc. and leave the country to China and Russia and watch these proud filipinos who is supporting Duterte thrive on their own! so my dear Americans, forget about Philippines and go to Thailand instead.

China, he said earlier, was “good”. “It has never invaded a piece of my country all these generations.”

Soooo.... you're okay with China stealing your sea lanes and fishing grounds?

I believe Duterte to be insane... there's no other excuse for the man's actions and statements. No rational man would say or do what he does.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

This guy is a coward and a traitor to his country. The UN ruled in his country's favour, yet he is deliberately handing over sovereignty of SC Sea assets to China. Has any leader in history so deliberately ruined their own country as leader? He is surely an enemy of the Philippines

3 ( +6 / -3 )

I believe Duterte to be insane... there's no other excuse for the man's actions and statements.

I can think of several. One would be that the Chinese might be paying him very well to cooperate on certain issues. They are not afraid to throw money around that way.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Well, this kinda' helps me decide if I wanna' go visit the Philippines again, and I just spent Christmas and New Years there.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Duterte is a much smarter man than you people give him credit for. He's playing both sides to his (country's) advantage. I would expect much more sophistication from the JT crowd.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

So Philippine is no longer needed Japan's patrol boats and planes. Why Japanese Government needs to supply patrol planes and boats as planned. The game is changing and going difference direction. So Japanese Government must revaluation of its supporting to Philippine Government.

The President thinks he was winner because he got permission for Filipinos fishermen to fishing in its own territory from Communist Chinese Government. What a joke Duterte?

I’m sure his family will be biggest benefited group from China deal. Communist Chinese Government’s affiliated Companies are famous for bribing the ruler of country. For example, Chinese Companies had bribed billions of dollars to former Burmese dictator General Than Shwe and his closed Generals. Today, former Dictator Than Shwe family worth not less than 50 Billions dollars. His family Jade Mine Company smuggled Jade direct into China without paying Government share 40% and tax. The Philippine President Duterte and his family will become billionaire soon. Duterte knew what he doing and what he will get from. The most dangerous thing is his Government becoming authoritarian regime. Now Chinese Government has offered to construct railway network in Philippine. The climate in the Philippine Sea is changing rapidly and Japanese Government needs to revaluate its policy with Philippine.

The corrupt Governments anywhere in the world do not benefit personally from dealing with US or democratically elected Western Government. So they choose Communist China over US, Japan and Western countries over everything except aid.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Knew this was coming ...

Philippines, 2016 ... Okinawa, 2036 ...

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Chop Chop,

“So Philippine is no longer needed Japan's patrol boats and planes. Why Japanese Government needs to supply patrol planes and boats as planned.”

So you mean Japanese Government is bribing PH government? Shame on JP.

“The President thinks he was winner because he got permission for Filipinos fishermen to fishing in its own territory from Communist Chinese Government. What a joke Duterte?”

Both sides hold the fishing rights doesn’t mean a loss on either side. Just like the fishing rights between Taiwan and Japan, sovereignty is not affected. What do you propose PH to do attack China? Talk is the best way to benefit PH people.

“I’m sure his family will be biggest benefited group from China deal. Communist Chinese Government’s affiliated Companies are famous for bribing the ruler of country.”

In either way whether he gets from the US or China, he will be rich anyway. Duterte loves his country so much that he risks upsetting the US knowing full well that there will be consequences. Besides he’s only swinging the pendulum back, he just wants PH not to be a lapdog for the US which uses PH to confront China. You know that he was told by the US to use the ruling to go against China so that other countries would follow. Instead of being happy that China and PH can get along and settle the dispute peacefully, the western media portrays the US has failed. Is it a contest? Think about it, day in and day out we are being fed with misinformation about China. We’ve hardly ever seen China going around killing innocent people in other countries and having military bases all over the world. Common, aid from the US is just a kick in the bucket, China can improve PH’s infrastructures and trades which are better for the PH people as a whole. Talking nonsense about being a vessel state of China, PH just wants to be neutral and under control of no one.

“The corrupt Governments anywhere in the world do not benefit personally from dealing with US or democratically elected Western Government.”

No, of course not. First the US would accuse the other governments of corrupt and undemocratic, then taking them out resulting in bloodshed and piles of dead bodies of innocent people. In the end those countries are in ruin and messier than before. Duterte is right in cleaning up his country’s internal mess first then seeking help to improve his people’s living condition which the US cannot do. All in all, what he is doing can bring peace to South East Asia and pave the path for Asia Century.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

yeah saw that coming. I think people forget how terrible America's historic colonial relations were with the Filipinos and even more people forget how closely tied China, Philippines, and many neighboring South East asian nations are with one another.

When it comes to understanding foreign policy and foreign relations, we as Americans are like children who are aware of how awesome our country is but totally not getting why our enemies hate us and continue to grow in numbers.

We had our chance of being a great global world order, but we lost that after invading Iraq, overthrowing Libyan regime, and throwing the whole Middle East into disasters with the lack of efficient nation-building or strong alliances among all the factions and tribes fighting against each other in the region.

So my next question, is what gives us the right to force our allies to stay in our alliance?

And force them to stay with us in their backyard. It's the American way to stand up to an occupying force like the Brits, but when it comes to us being in other's regions, we consider ourselves the "good guys", the "protectors".

Interesting thing that one of our founding father George Washington once wrote caution of our nation's foreign adventures and would rather prefer us to not be involved in other nation's business.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

crouching$amuraiHiddenNinja: ... So my next question, is what gives us the right to force our allies to stay in our alliance?

USA left the Philippines and Panama to local governments, and finally left the Philippine military bases when the Philippines asked them to.

Who's forcing anybody?

If Japan asked the USA to leave, do you think the USA would say 'No'?

How about if Tibet asked China to leave?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Turbotsat,

“USA left the Philippines and Panama to local governments, and finally left the Philippine military bases when the Philippines asked them to. Who's forcing anybody?”

There were numerous demonstrations in PH to force the US out, the US had no choice but to leave. The US came back to PH with all kinds of promises to help PH but nothing bears fruit for PH, terrorism is rampant and infrastructure is crumbling. But the US has learned the lesson this time as with the help of previous government heightening up the tension with China so that it could be seen as a good guy and China were bad. PH people started to believe and love the US but in the next few years you will see more and more people will be turning towards China.

“If Japan asked the USA to leave, do you think the USA would say 'No'?” Okinawa did ask the US to leave but instead of leaving they just moved the base, I bet, to an even bigger base. Japan is like a little chic in the palm of the US so cute that it’s being patted once in a while.

“How about if Tibet asked China to leave?” Tibet is a part of China, the UN confirms it, so I don’t understand your point. Then, here is what you should question, “how about if Hawaii asked the US to leave?”

0 ( +3 / -3 )

He's actually very smart, by this way he actually de-escalates the tension and effectively stoping further Chinese land building in that sea (unless China is very very stupid), which America Japan, and the entire ASEAN couldn't whatsoever. moreover, I can see he will get a handsome amount of financial aids from China

3 ( +4 / -1 )

The PH govt refused to renew the lease, forcing the US to leave ... "demonstrations" forced the USA out? You don't see the US leaving Okinawa, do you?

PH pushed the US out, but "nothing bears fruit for PH, terrorism is rampant and infrastructure is crumbling" is the USA's fault?

The bases are still in Okinawa because the majority of Japanese want them there and because they are electing national officials who want them there. Okinawa has been unsuccessful getting the bases out because it is a decision to be taken at the national level and Okinawa is a prefecture, not a nation.

Tibet was independent from at least 1912 until 1950, when China's People's Liberation Army invaded it ... by your theory Okinawa and the Philippines could both have been retained by the USA to the present day and they would have no complaint.

As for Hawaii ... 100-year rule ... the great majority of Hawaii is no longer aboriginal, maybe only 8,000 full-blooded Hawaiians are left ... who should it be given back to? Will the current inhabitants leave?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clark_Air_Base

... The base was later closed by the United States in the early 1990s due to the refusal by the then- Philippine government to renew the lease on the base. After extensive damage from the Mount Pinatubo eruption in 1991, the Philippine government attempted to reopen base lease talks, but terms could not be reached and the lease was not extended. ...

2 ( +3 / -1 )

turbotsat,

“The PH govt refused to renew the lease, forcing the US to leave ... "demonstrations" forced the USA out? You don't see the US leaving Okinawa, do you?”

I wonder why the PH govt refused to renew the lease, not because the people did not want them there? As for Okinawa, people there also want the US to leave but they refused. This is the point I try to make to you. Okinawa is the key strategic location for the US. The US will not leave Okinawa no matter what.

“PH pushed the US out, but "nothing bears fruit for PH, terrorism is rampant and infrastructure is crumbling" is the USA's fault?”

My point is there is no benefit from getting close to the US, China supports PH in fighting crimes and building up their infrastructure which the US is not able to do for the PH. You can see that the US interferes in the PH internal affairs and tries to dictate what the PH government should be doing for the benefits of the US. The US tries to stir up chaos in SE Asia so that the economies of the surrounding countries would slow down especially China’s. I don’t see anything wrong with being close to China, the dispute will be set aside, trades will improve, and eventually PH people’s lives will be better.

“Tibet was independent from at least 1912 until 1950, when China's People's Liberation Army invaded it ... by your theory Okinawa and the Philippines could both have been retained by the USA to the present day and they would have no complaint.”

Enough said about Tibet, this is only an excuse to smear China. Tibet has been part of China for centuries, the UN says so, and so is the US. If you think Tibet is not part of China, go and complain to the US government.

Do you know the history of Hawaii and for that matter, the history of the US? I wonder how come only 8,000 full-blooded Hawaiians are left. What happened when the US invaded Hawaii? How come the indigenous people are so few in between? Look at the number of Tibetan people and their living conditions, now say out loud "only 8,000 full-blooded Hawaiians are left," the US must be ashamed of that.

Think about what happened when PH was US colony, they treated PH people like dirt. Have you ever wondered how come Duterte mentioned the history when the US invaded PH? The US troops managed to have over 3 million American descendants in the PH, of course they are happy being there.

Duterte loves his country so much that he risks upsetting the US knowing full well that there will be consequences

Loves his country!? or loves himself? any politicians say that they love their countries bro, we were not born yesterday to believe these lies. if you know filipinos very well , I don't think I can imagine our daily lives taking away all the american influences from us. from the daily habits to entertainment. Everything is very american.

My point is there is no benefit from getting close to the US

Explain youirself why? and what is your proof that China is helping Philippines fighting crime while they prohibit our own fishermen fish in our own territory?

Think about what happened when PH was US colony, they treated PH people like dirt.

You are living in the past, How many Filipinos now are benefiting from america. Wether you like it or not , Philippines is not ready to become North Korea or Venezuela, and all the comforts we are having right now is because of our alliance with America.

The US came back to PH with all kinds of promises to help PH but nothing bears fruit for PH,

US Did everything it can to assist the Philippines! the problem is our Politicians, especially Marcos! don't expect US to spoon feed everything to Philippines, Philippines has to do their part too.

Everything with Duterte is inconsistent! He hates America but Loves Marcos! Marcos who hated the Communists (China) and the one who allowed America built their bases in Olongapo, These Americans that Duterte hated so much because they are settling in our own land courtesy of Marcos whom Duterte really loves! So I don't know what is this guy standing for? in Japanese his mind is GUCHA-GUCHA . His mind is just being driven by his daily emotions.Definitely not a presidentiable, just good enough for a town mayor! And I blame the 16 million filipinos who voted for him.

The USA should cancel its 1951 security agreement and prepare to leave. It is what China wants and the USA taxpayers want. Good luck, Duterte.

Look at Xi's drawn face lol.

Instead of being happy that China and PH can get along and settle the dispute peacefully

If you take settling the dispute peacefully as utter capitulation. China doesn't truly negotiate its sovereignty; it has essentially paid Duterte to hand over Philippine territory quietly.

Hopefully, the Philippine Senate sees this move for what it is, and impeaches him before lasting damage is done to Philippine-US relations.

Good on you Duterte. Most countries would be better off without the US as their allies. Who needs a country that sees the advancement of other countries as "a threat to their foreign policy."

You know what, this just like one person give 2 little pistols to the other poor guy and says "BRO, here you are. Go and fight that guy sitting in the tank! I will give you support from behind!" Do you expect that poor guy grabs the pistol and charges to the guy in the tank? Funny.

Noypikantoku,

“Loves his country!? or loves himself? any politicians say that they love their countries bro, we were not born yesterday to believe these lies.”

If he loves himself, he wouldn’t make himself to be a target for execution from both the drug lords and the US. He knew full well that the PH people love the US from the daily bombardment of propaganda which Duterte mentioned this himself. Things are going to change when propaganda is taken away and more news about the messes that the US has created are exposed, people are going to change. As Xi said, China and Ph are brothers so PH will turn for the better.

“Explain youirself why? and what is your proof that China is helping Philippines fighting crime while they prohibit our own fishermen fish in our own territory?”

More cooperation and assistance in crime fighting forces and intelligence. More enforcement to fight drug smugglers. Do you know that China has quietly built a big drug rehab center for PH? I have never heard the US built something like that for a country, only on their bases. About China prohibiting PH fishermen fish in the area, you must be confused thinking that sovereignty is defined in the ruling, if China has the sovereignty over the islands then China has the right to prohibit fishing in their territory. In any event, there is a decision to set aside the dispute and so the fishing rights may be in place. China has offered to freeze the dispute for the moment which it does not have to do. Now both sides can sit down and do business. Peace for all, isn’t that good for the world?

“You are living in the past, How many Filipinos now are benefiting from america. Wether you like it or not, Philippines is not ready to become North Korea or Venezuela, and all the comforts we are having right now is because of our alliance with America.”

You are living in the Western propaganda world. If PH are benefiting from the US, think about this carefully, how come PH is so poor and corruption is rampant? Shouldn’t PH at least be improving from exposure to the US. You could say that it’s all PH own making. It’s more like PH is being suck dry just like Africa before. You mentioned North Korea and Venezuela so you must not understand how China works, it follows non-interference and win-win solutions. Both of those countries are not under China and they make their own political decisions. You can notice that North Korea does not really listen to China. PH has been a democratic country and under the US for quite some time, shouldn’t it be much better though? You really think the “US Did everything it can to assist the Philippines!” You see American movies, arms and cars they all sucking away money from PH, it’s only a one way street to benefit the US. Why do think Duterte doesn’t care about the US investments?

Duterte may seem to be inconsistent but he does everything for his country. He sacrificed his own life and reputation for the sake of his country. If he does not fit to be the PH president as you said, then there must be a flaw in the democratic system which happens all the time in the US.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Chinese permanent national strategy wait s forever for the best timing. Of course they don’t use weapons now but instead, spread Chinese and China School members into all over Asia. Sinocentrism. That’s how it was for 2000years they believe except 20th century. Duterte’s Grand-pa was Chinese and his former beloved teacher was the leader PH communist party. So easy to deal with each other

So what they kept outcrying as Chinese Core national Interest has turned out just easy to shelve. They keep artificial islands as they are now., don’t they? Is this guy happy about it?

If he loves himself, he wouldn’t make himself to be a target for execution from both the drug lords and the US. He knew full well that the PH people love the US from the daily bombardment of propaganda which Duterte mentioned this himself

I don't think it's humility, Duterte thinks he can crush these drug lords and he wants to prove to the world that he is the only guy who can turn his back to america. That is not selflessness that is ego and pride because he is a NARCISSIST! And I really wish his pride will backfire on him soon. Target of drug lords? where are the big drug lords he arrested? since his campaign started all these thousands of people who got killed and surrendered are the ones on the bottom of the food chain, I haven't seen drug labs and BIG DRUG LORDS getting arrested etc. A good leader will never let his people become divided, hundreds of thousands of filipinos are working peacefully and satisfied living in the US, why would he put these people at risk because of his pride? Can China match the same treatment these filipino immigrants in the US get? Why would Duterte think that China can take care of Philippines when they cannot even take care of themselves. Plus again. CHINA'S ECONOMY IS DEPENDENDING ON AMERICA AND IT'S ALLIES wether you like it or not, that's the truth, without US, china wont make it to the top.

Do you know that China has quietly built a big drug rehab center for PH?

"QUIETLY" built a rehab? haha! why do they have to make this discreet? how can we assure that these "REHAB" facilities will be really used as rehabilitation centers especially with Chinese being well known for under the table and bogus deals? these things need to be transparent as people need to know what is being built in our own land and make sure that this is not being used for "CORRUPTION", As it's easy to say "LOOK WE ARE BUILDING A DRUG REHAB" but how can you assure that? again we were not born yesterday not all of us are gullibles.... Or maybe these were just heresay that's why it was built quietly because the truth is, there was really nothing. Plus rehab centers are obligation and responsibilities of local government, I don't see the point of relying these things to other countries when we should have enough funds to build rehab facilities on our own! if this is true, then China is tolerating the Duterte administration of corruption , as we should have proper funds for this, let Duterte use that and not take any garbage from China as we dont want to owe them something.

As Xi said, China and Ph are brothers so PH will turn for the better.

Am I suppose to laugh on this? BROTHERS!? China tresspassed in our own territory, harrased our poor fishermen and prohibited them from fishing, anyone in their right minds would never think of this as brotherhood

Why do think Duterte doesn’t care about the US investments?

I truly understand how China works, and I truly understand that they became rich because of the united states too . Plus I never said that DPRK and Venezuela were being run by China, What I said i, let DPRK and Venezuela be a reference for what will happen to any countries that denounced and bunred bridges with United States.

United States indeed assisted the Philippines, but then again Philippines is an independent country and has to stand on their own feet, we shall not expect america to spoon feed everything to us, I thought we want independence from them? then why would peole like you cry about America not taking care of Philippines then? plus Blame the corrupt politicians why Philippines is still poor right now, not the americans! South Korea, Japan and Taiwan were very progressive countries right now because aside form the support from the US, they work hard and their government were less corrupt than filipinos.

Duterte may seem to be inconsistent but he does everything for his country

A general who is inconsistent will make his troops get killed, that's a fact. the issue here is not about loving your country or not, but more of Duterte being capable of leading our country, being consistent is a key responsibility of any leaders, and Duterte is not consistent at all as you agree with me, then he is no good and just selling our country to the Chinese and filipinos don't want it, if he pushes this hard I think its gonna be a big problem, expect a coup detat or civil war.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Noypikantoku,

“I don't think it's humility, Duterte thinks he can crush these drug lords and he wants to prove to the world that he is the only guy who can turn his back to america.”

As you said before, Duterte is a politician so why would you be surprised that he would be bashing the US right now. He did it to get the help from China. Did you really think that he would “turn his back to America?” He does not want his country to take side any more. You could complain about the way he wanted to clean up the street regardless of how he did it at least he did something that scared those addicts to surrender in waves. As for the big drug lords, do you really think that they are that easy to be eliminated? Duterte is right to start somewhere and strike hard, let the fear sink in among the people then next is to get rid of those upper echelons who feed on the drug trades.

“A good leader will never let his people become divided, hundreds of thousands of filipinos are working peacefully and satisfied living in the US, why would he put these people at risk because of his pride? Can China match the same treatment these filipino immigrants in the US get?”

If you are afraid that those Filipinos living in the US would be affected, you are thinking too much. I wonder how many Filipinos now living in Hong Kong, there must be a lot. And, when Filipinos are welcome by China there will be a lot more going to the main land. Duterte is not that crazy, he already thought things through. It’s better to open to both the US and China than just the US, why limit yourself when you can have both cakes and eat them too.

“Why would Duterte think that China can take care of Philippines when they cannot even take care of themselves. Plus again. CHINA'S ECONOMY IS DEPENDENDING ON AMERICA AND IT'S ALLIES wether you like it or not, that's the truth, without US, china wont make it to the top.”

You still don’t understand you cannot expect China to take care of PH because of its non-interference policies. China can only provide the tools, such as increased trades, infrastructures and rail roads for PH people to help themselves which the US cannot do for PH. The US will only provide the PH the tools of wars to create chaos and destruction. Another thing that you are mistaken that “CHINA'S ECONOMY IS DEPENDENDING ON AMERICA AND IT'S ALLIES,” China deals with all countries throughout the world regardless regimes, ideology or size. You can’t say the same for the US. You still have decades old thinking, you can imagine if the US stop dealing with China, a lot of things are going to be so expensive that the US will suddenly enjoy the depression and the US will be bankrupt. With so many guns on the streets during the depression, you can imagine people will be living in absolute fear. China makes it to the top, do you really think it’s because of the US? Think of it this way how come India has not climbed to the top after a century has passed. You don’t think Indian people also work hard as for corruption China has just started to deal with it in a big way recently so you cannot say corruption has prevented PH to improve. You mentioned South Korea, Japan and Taiwan, they are all related to China in many ways. Ever heard of the five dragons in Asia. The US is supporting them because of China and they’ve improved because of China.

Without Duterte there will not be a change to the PH. Duterte created change and he did something for the country that the past governments did not dare to do. It has nothing to do with selling your country to the Chinese, the territorial dispute is only put aside in this PH does not lose anything. If Filipinos do not want Chinese help, then there will no one that can help PH.

Did you really think that he would “turn his back to America?” He does not want his country to take side any more

this came from his own dirty mouth "TABLAHIN NA NATIN ANG AMERICA", ok let me give you some tagalog lessons here just in case you are not a filipino. In tagalog that statement means" Let's Ditch america from now on", and TABLA is a very inpolite word, very negative. It's an informal word used by mostly immature higschool students. Now He is suggesting to the filipino community in China to ditch america. Now explain to me which part of this statement suggests filipinos to not take sides anymore? ... Plus take sides!? who is taking sides?? The relationship between filipino and americans are fine, all of a sudden Duterte started bashing them for no reasons. He is out of his mind.

It’s better to open to both the US and China than just the US, why limit yourself when you can have both cakes and eat them too. you are just assuming that he thought about these things. Give me a proof that he planned this way ahead of time. ?

Duterte is crazy, A sane person would not encourage his own citizen to hate or say the most rudest things especialy if it's subjected to someone who is helping you. Think things through? give me a proof that he plan these things ahead of time. Common sense, will you expect someone to cooperate with you after you show how you hate this person and say them the rudest words to them? How can you say that he wants to open to both US and CHINA when he made statements like "Philippines , China and Russia against the World (US, EU)" , you seem like a better english speaker than me but how come you cannot understand and analyze his statements properly and keep insisting that what he means is uniting these countries when what is coming out of his mouth is competeley the opposite.

You still don’t understand you cannot expect China to take care of PH because of its non-interference policies. China can only provide the tools, such as increased trades, infrastructures and rail roads for PH people to help themselves which the US cannot do for PH

Uhm excuse me, the rail road project is not a gift from China, it is gonna be paid using our taxes, so I think China is getting more benefit more than filipinos, big profit for China! the question now is, since this is gonna be a "CHINESE MADE" project, I really doubt that this train system will be worthy of our money as I think made in china products have very questionable reputation globally. And again, why would America build rail roads for the Philippines? I thought we are and we want to be independent from them? Building roads, trains etc.in the Philippines is not an obligation of America. That's our governent's job! not America.

China makes it to the top, do you really think it’s because of the US?

YES! Tell me, what made China rich? did you really think they made it on their own? come on. US moved all their production to china because china was cheap, little that they know china is not really that loyal and top class back stabbers. And US investing on china is the biggest mistake they've ever done.

The US will only provide the PH the tools of wars to create chaos and destruction

HAHAHAHAH! Where are these tools of wars!?!? Im sorry but I don't see PH possesing tools for chaos and destruction from America. all we have is an old rusty battle ship guarding us from.... CHINESE....

Am I suppose to laugh on this? China is not helping Philippines, China is bullying the Philippines. And its very unfortunate that Duterte is becoming the bullies lapdog. How can you set aside the territorial dispute when livelihood of many filipinos are at stake and our natural resources are getting destroyed.

Indeed Duterte is creating a huge changes, but not for good, a change for chaos. And filipinos don't want china. So if Duterte would push this further , it will be a big chaotic problem.
