What is it with the Filipino's that makes them again and again elect the most outrageous nut cases to the highest office?

Filipinos desire for change for this article's last paragraph (probably the only reason) and suffer from strongman syndrome. I guess being a commie would remove those so-called elites and corrupts in the society.

“Bongbong” Marcos Jr, the son and namesake of late dictator Ferdinand Marcos, looked on course to become vice president

So they now have a "President" who makes jokes about women that have been gang-raped and murdered, and a "Vice-President" called Bong-Bong, the son of a mass-murderer. The Philippines really is a banana republic, and I feel sorry for those people who did not vote for these grubs.

I remember when Bong-Bong Marcos used to strut around his papa's palace wearing crossed bandoliers, like Pancho Villa. He was contemptuously given the nickname "Rambodito" (little Rambo). What a pathetic farce.

When your streets are filled with crime and corruption, someone who can clean it up seems like a pretty good option I guess.

@SimondB

Thanks for taking the time to dissect and analyze my comment. I didn't say I condone, agree with, or support anyone. I'm simply stating that when you have big enough problems sometimes the people flock to someone they think can or will try to do something. It is a factor regardless of whether you agree or not.

Oh look at the polls today....I guess he's won, and for the reasons I stated.

Yes, I'm sure the populous is looking forward to the emergence of death squads killing anyone deemed to be a criminal. And then they can wipe out those pesky beggar children that bother you everywhere in Manila. Also, always handy to have these death squads at hand when your rivals get a bit too uppity.

As for the corruption part of your statement - rest assured that corruption will continue unabated as Philippine history clearly shows that it flow from the top (two of the last three presidents have been jailed for corruption). Let's not forget that the parents of the newly elected vice president fled the country after stashing away an estimated 10 billion dollars. You can expect him to quickly shut down the special department charged with recovering that money.
