Egypt makes new truce offer as Israeli strikes in Gaza kill 65

Egypt has put forward a new proposal aimed at restoring the Gaza ceasefire deal, security sources told Reuters on Monday, as Palestinian health authorities said Israeli strikes have killed at least 65 people in the enclave in the past 24 hours.

The proposal, made last week, follows an escalation in violence after Israel resumed air and ground operations against Hamas last Tuesday, effectively ending a two-month period of relative calm.

Health officials said Israel has killed nearly 700 Palestinians since it resumed its attacks, including at least 400 women and children.

Islamist group Hamas said several of its senior political and security officials had also been killed.

The Egyptian plan calls for Hamas to release five Israeli hostages each week, with Israel implementing the second phase of the ceasefire after the first week, two security sources said.

Hamas is still holding 59 hostages, with 24 of them thought to be still alive.

Both the U.S. and Hamas agreed to the proposal, the security sources said, but Israel has not yet responded.

A Hamas official didn't confirm the proposed offer, but told Reuters that "several proposals are being discussed with the mediators to bridge the gap and to resume negotiations to reach common ground that would pave the way to start the second phase of the agreement."

TIMETABLE FOR WITHDRAWAL

The sources said the Egyptian proposal also includes a timeline for Israel's full withdrawal from Gaza, backed by U.S. guarantees, in exchange for the hostages' release.

Hamas has accused Israel of breaking the terms of the January ceasefire agreement but has said it is willing to negotiate a truce and was studying proposals from U.S. President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff.

Israel says it resumed its military operations to force Hamas to release the remaining hostages it is holding in Gaza.

It says it does its best to reduce harm to civilians and has questioned the death toll provided by health authorities in the Hamas-run enclave.

Palestinian officials on Sunday put the death toll from nearly 18 months of conflict at over 50,000.

Israel launched its offensive in Gaza after Hamas fighters stormed southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and taking more than 250 hostages, according to Israeli tallies.

In Rafah, the local municipality said thousands of people were stuck inside the Tel Al-Sultan area, where the Israeli military sent some of its forces, with families trapped among the ruins, with no water, food, or medicine.

The Palestinian Civil Emergency Service said 50,000 residents remained cornered in Rafah.

The Israeli military said troops had encircled Tel Al-Sultan to dismantle "terror infrastructure sites and eliminate terrorists in the area."

U.N. Palestinian relief agency UNRWA said 124,000 people have been displaced in Gaza in recent days.

"Families carry what little they have with no shelter, no safety, and nowhere left to go. The Israeli authorities have cut off all aid. Food is scarce and prices are soaring. This is a humanitarian catastrophe. The siege must end," it said on X.

Surprise. Surprise.

The other day, one of the Hamas supporters wrote here as follows:

"the majority of the people in the world support the Palestinians"

Those who support Hamas do not support the Palestinian Arabs. They support a mad and cruel terrorist organization which brings a disaster upon its own nation and sacrifices its own nation. If you want to support the Palestinian Arabs, persuade them to agree to live together and side by side with the Israeli Jews. The Palestinian Arabs can build their rights only upon agreeing to have a peace arrangement with the other nation (which is their relative). Free the Palestinian Arabs from the genocidal and suicidal illusion of cleansing the land, from the river to the sea, from the other ethnicity.

Meanwhile

Israel has admitted that it carried out a controlled demolition of Gaza's only cancer hospital after it initially claimed it struck the hospital as it was being used by Hamas. The hospital was occupied and shut down by Israeli forces months ago as evidenced by social media posts showing videos of soldiers destroying ultrasound equipment and joking around.

The Oscar winning co-director of "No Other Land" was attacked by Israeli settlers and abducted by Israeli soldiers. His whereabouts and condition are currently unknown.

Israel has taken to blowing up hundreds of pickup trucks in Gaza that are the same model as some of those used by Hamas on Oct 7th.

I guess when you've destroyed or damaged 80% of the buildings and every single school and hospital there's not much left to bomb.

Destroying cancer hospitals, arresting Oscar winning film makers and blowing up random white pickup trucks. The world's most moral army exercising its right to self defence.

NB...straight question.....if Netanyahu campaigns on a "No Palestinian state while he is PM ", and he continues to win elections, what hope should Palestinians have of a separate state of their own ?

They will have their state once they renounce the agenda of exterminating the other nation. But it will be a disarmed state.

If only el-Sisi can bring Trump to the negotiating table.

Surprise. Surprise.

Lets not forget that the Israel IDF under the orders of Netanyahu, a criminal wanted by the International Court of Justice and best buddy of Washington, is responsible of the mass killings of over 60.000 people, 70% of which are innocent children and women, UN says. Only last week over 200 kids were brutally massacred during bombing in Gaza, where Israel was supposed to respect the cease fire.

What Israel is doing is a “blight on the conscience of humanity.”

This terrible conflict would end the first 24 hours the US administration stops shipping lethal weapons to Israel, but, as we know, there is too much at stake for the US lobbies in Wall Street

NB...Hamas wants a return to 1967 borders, thereby implicitly accepting an Israeli state in the other area.

They say their war is against Zionism, not with Jews because of their religion.

Have to say "Zionism " is the force gobbling up land in that area , making a Palestinian state unviable .

At the "creation " of Israel, also true to say marauding Jewish/Zionist terror groups drove 750,000 Palestinian people from ancestral homes, really undercutting the UN project and beginning this long period of war between the groups.

Fanatics who treat the Bible as a historical document.

No evidence of Moses actually...probably a composite figure drawn from a number of sources.

In the 1920s it was right to establish an Arabic state, with a Jewish community. In the 1940s, after the holocaust, it was right to establish two states according to the UN partition plan. Later, after the Arabic attack of 1948, it was right to establish two states according to the pre-1967 borders with modifications. Today it is still right to implement the two-state solution, but the Palestinian state must be disarmed; the borders and all arrangements must ensure the security of Israel.

I'm reading the secret diary of a Jew describing the horrors of the Holocaust in Lithuania in WW2. The picture of suffering endured by the Palestinians under the terror attacks perpetrated on them by the Israelis presents astounding parallels to the cruel suffering of Jews at the hands of sadistic European anti-semites. Can it be that Israelis have traumatized themselves with their culture of victimhood, as suggested by some Jewish scholars? This is a very disturbing question for humanlty.

Let's all remember that UN Resolution 242 requires Israel to withdraw from the borders of territories occupied before 1967.

According to the Israeli anti-settlement group, Peace Now, in 2024 settlers also established 59 new outposts, without authorisation from the Israeli government. That was more than double the number from the previous year – which was also a record year for settlement outpost establishment.

Israel has built about 160 settlements housing some 700,000 Jews since it occupied the West Bank in the 1967 Middle East war. The settlements are considered illegal under international law,

What is still going on in Gaza is the most documented genocide in history. Palestinians are being intentionally massacred by Israel IDF, starved, and stripped of everything needed to sustain human life. The demise of rule of law, a prelude to the hand of humanity.

With the outbreak of war in Gaza, the arms revenues of the three companies based in Israel in the Top 100 reached $13.6 billion. This was the highest figure ever recorded by Israeli companies in the SIPRI Top 100.

This comparison is wrong and distorted in every way. This comparison is intended to minimize the severity of the acts of Hitler and other anti-semites. The European Jews were murdured in millions, in gas chambers and in other cruel methods, due to pure racism. The Palestinians suffer because they refuse to accomodate the other ethnicity (which is their relative), and are led by their extremist leadership, which edorses Hitler's Mein Kampf, to wipe out the other ethnicity from the land. The suffering of the Palestinians is completely redundant: They could have enjoyed prosperous life together and side by side with the Jews.

I said "Palestinians", but it is more accurate to say "Palestinian Arabs".

Truth is Netanyahu and the criminal officers of the IDF should be brought to justice at the International Court off Justice for the mass killings of tens of thousands of innocent civilians. It was clear from the beginning they wanted to have their hands free after the partial release of the hostages. After all Israeli leaders have a long track record of spinning false narratives

A reminder that Israel has warded off completely the Gaza Strip since the start of the military operations, same as the battleground in South Lebanon. Therefore all the actions and destructions by Israel IDF cannot be documented by foreign media. Only the American media embedded with Israel army. So you can have an idea of the authenticity of the chronicles.

The criminals are the mad terrorists of Hamas, who launched a large-scale massacre/rape/kidnapping in order to thwart the Saudi peace efforts. They committed barbaric atrocoities beyond description. Israel has no choice but to fend off this genocidal attack.
