South Africa has relatively strict gun laws.

In South Africa, the right to possess firearms is not guaranteed by law. The FCA imposes a general ban on the possession of firearms except in certain circumstances.

Yet the crime rate is through the roof.

These facts are a bit inconvenient to those crying foul after every such incident in the US.

Two words - illegal guns.

Laws don't mean too much when all manner of guns can be obtained easily and very cheaply in South Africa. By most measures South Africa is in the top 5 nations for homicide. By magnitudes more dangerous than the US.

Both nations are infested with guns and have shocking gun violence problems.

And one is the world's biggest economy and the other is a developing nation with an economy that ranks somewhere in the thirties. Both had apartheid though, so they're comparable in that respect.

Two shooters at a birthday party in a private residence. I wonder if it was more gang related violence.

These victims were killed by criminals, and we will not rest until we find out what happened and who was responsible for (this) callous and cold-blooded attack on these unsuspecting victims," said Eastern Cape SAPS Commissioner Nomthetheleli Lillian Mene.

Let's hope so. They still haven't found who was responsible for the mass shooting in Soweto last year that killed 16.
