Wish this guy would run for President, but sadly, he can’t.

Governor of Texas maybe? The Teslanator?

Musk, a native of South Africa, noted his own status as an "immigrant to the United States" and called himself "extremely pro-immigrant."

Musk, is a South African pro-natalist.

Another proto tech cult that basically says we need more high-quality children of high intelligence (of what race they tend to be a bit cagey about but you might be able to guess) for when a great deal of the "median" stock will be rendered superfluous by AGI.

All I can say is that Iain Banks, the socialist SF writer from whom Musk sometimes cribs ideas from, would be very disappointed in these antics.

Fortunately, because he would rename the USA "X".

Oh great, another billionaire who is going to try to fix another thing for us.

Let me guess, he's going to start charging people 20$ a month for citizenship badges. Then when people balk at that, he'll cut the price to 8$. And to save money he'll fire everyone who works in the Immigration department verifying that people applying to immigrate really are who they say they are, since paying 8$ a month should be guarantee enough.

Wish this guy would run for President, but sadly, he can’t.

Indeed - he can't because he's too busy making electric cars...in China...to sell in North America...

Didn't someone just rant and rail against that?

Yeah, exactly how much of the wall will he be paying for?

7 ( +12 / -5 )

STOP THE INVASION !!!...

-14 ( +7 / -21 )

Wish this guy would run for President, but sadly, he can’t.

Nah, he wouldnt be any better than Trump!

10 ( +14 / -4 )

Yeah, exactly how much of the wall will he be paying for?

Probably more than any other person in the US based on how much he paid in federal income taxes in 2021.

-13 ( +4 / -17 )

I wish people stop believing he is a genius.. he is rich and mostprobably moderately above the IQ medium not more.

If we go to classify "smarteness", I do belive he is business smart as well as moderatly imaginative (though limited)... but socially and sentimentally classifying Musk as "Smart" is an overexageration.

He has money, so people listen to him and every of his whims, also money give you access to information that give him advantage.

But genius he is certanly not... a rich moderately above average smart white guy...yes

And percentage wise I paid more. Guess I am the better citizen.

Sure, whatever. He still pays more federal taxes, which are used for this kind of thing (they were in 2019), so he pays for more of the wall than anyone else.

-8 ( +5 / -13 )

Doesn't look like that Ozempic is having the desired effect on Elon "Husk(y)".

You repeated that like it means something. Everybody should be paying the same percentage, not 0 like Trump. Musk wasn't supposed to get any greater say where it went, either.

6 ( +12 / -6 )

Elon Musk is a stupid person's idea of what a smart person is.

3 ( +13 / -10 )

Regardless what you think of Musk personally, he does have a point. The thousands of illegals who flood the southern border every day are a potential danger that needs to be recognized. The worst part is the involvement of the drug cartels, who control the entire Mexican side of the border. Nobody is allowed to cross without paying the cartels. In the case of women and girls, sadly they pay with more than just money.

It needs to be stopped.

You asked the question.

Yeah, exactly how much of the wall will he be paying for?

So I answered it. Then you start talking about percentages, and Trump for some reason.

-8 ( +3 / -11 )

Everybody should be paying the same percentage,

Indeed. Yay for a flat tax.

-3 ( +5 / -8 )

St. Elon, the man who ran Twitter into the ground and platformed neo-nazis (and has smeared those who disagree with him as pedophiles) is the LAST person I want to hear from regarding "solutions".

He is a typical narcissist who cares about exposure, not about human problems.

8 ( +13 / -5 )

Why not, he's surely one of the very few who can easily stand it even when unfiltered.

-11 ( +1 / -12 )

To be fair, when I lived in California, with few exceptions, the immigrants I met were hard working, and the displays of outrageous illegal behavior that we are seeing in inner cities stealing and so on do not seem to show such immigrants' involvement.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Wrong.

Musk gets advantages coming and going like the majority of oligarchs.

Massive government subsidization of his EV, battery, solar and space operations.

Using much more public resources (roads, lands, utilities) than any other citizen and creating more of an environmental burden, a phenomena called the "plunder of the commons".

https://www.oecd-forum.org/posts/out-of-the-pandemic-reverse-the-plunder-of-the-commons

Then having most assets either in lower taxed capital and shares or in off-shore tax havens so paying percentage wise far tinier amount of tax than, for example, one of his secretaries or union laborer.

I take the some good with the bad about Musk compared to other oligarchs but some of the adoration at this stage, mostly from the right, is hilarious, and for the wrong reasons.

I think this kind of misconstrues the point Musk is making.

Its a fair point that illegal immigration is a problem that needs to be dealt with, but that isn't Musk's point.

Musk's point is that "I, Elon Musk, am a genius and will solve this problem."

This is always Musk's point when he wades into some issue. Sometimes he might actually be able to do something constructive, or at least try to do something constructive, and other times he is just acting on egotistical impulses. I don't know enough about the details of his ideas to say which category this falls into.

I will say that the knee-jerk defence of him by people on the political right (and inverse knee-jerk condemnation of him from those on the left) might be overlooking the fact that his proposal seems to envisage more, rather than less, immigration. But the devil is in the details and he doesn't seem to be offering any of those.....

You are talking about his businesses not about Musk. All major businesses get perks and subsidies, and pay sweet FA in taxes.

Elon Musk is a stupid person's idea of what a smart person is.

This comment is so good and spot on I had to login to give it props.

6 ( +12 / -6 )

He called for an "expedited legal approval" as part of a "greatly expanded legal immigration system" that welcomes "hard-working and honest" migrants, while also barring entry for those who are "breaking the law."

"We want to do both things - smooth out legal immigration and stop a flow of people that is of such magnitude that we’re leading to a collapse of social services," Musk said.

Musk, a native of South Africa, noted his own status as an "immigrant to the United States" and called himself "extremely pro-immigrant."

First time I am in agreement with him. Just don't base getting in on the lightness of someone's skin and give all a fair chance.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Musk shouldn't try to move to areas where he is clearly out of his depth. For example, he was clearly out of his depth with his Twitter purchase and is destroying that platform while losing money for its investors (mostly himself).

Politics and foreign policy are other areas where Elon clearly has no understanding, but he thinks he does.

Stick to rockets and cars, Elon!

All major businesses get perks and subsidies, and pay sweet FA in taxes.

It’s true- and why doesn’t the government of today move to eliminate perks and subsidies?

No, rather they are seeking to add on more, both over there and here in Japan.

It’s insane for the economy, only good in the eyes of some politically.

Simple flat tax system means a level playing field for all - but sorry yes that means no special perks for the politically favoured groups of the day.

Only the voters can fix this…

and what type of "solutions" are the current POTUS and VP offering? They both have been to the border once and didn't even meet migrants.
