If you know a position is going to become vacant, you do your best to find someone to fill it before that happens. If you don't, or if you can't, then the position will be empty and in need of someone. That's generally how employment works and yes it would be called a struggle. I don't know if Trump has anyone else in mind but people aren't exactly screaming at him "pick me"
Laguna
Hmm. Funny how "a simple transaction" was delayed for years until it coincided with Trump's campain. Well, these things happen. But "Lawyer's liability if he made a mistake, not me" - well, that's just Trump letting another man go to jail for his mistakes. Nothing to see here: he acts in such a way frequently.
And what was that about Trump's inability to fill a key post?
lincolnman
Dang straight....who wouldn't want to work for such a paragon - just look at how his staff describes the man....
Tillertson: "a fuc&*$ moron...."idiot"...
Mattis: "has the understanding of a fifth grader"...
Kelly: "Idiot"...
Preibus: "Idiot"...
Manuchin: "Idiot"...
McMaster: "Idiot"..."Dope"....
They certainly are consistent....

It's amazing how many individuals could have lived their entire existence with their reputations intact had they chosen not to grovel at the feet of the sociopath residing in the White House.
Chip Star
Any time you are called out for lumping a huge group of people together to denigrate them, you shift to the "upper echelons" or "top ranking." Totally devoid of substance.
This isn't even debatable. Your posts literally speak for themselves.
Deadforgood
@bass4funk
Ayers is going on to work for trumps re-election campaign, so obviously he is not worried about his reputation with democrats...I mean come on, a lot of people that were involved in trump getting elected have been indicted and now being sentenced. So I don't think you can make the claim that he is worried about being frisked by liberals.
He does seem to be uninterested in working at a very high ranking position directly with the president that surely pays well and comes with all the benefits of such a career, one that his family would surely benefit from as well. Because who would want to work next to Trump for much longer with all the spontaneous behavior and irresponsible actions he continues to make over and over again.
SuperLib
Trump did it to himself. He's just not presidential material.
PTownsend
That reminds me of an old Steve Martin skit:
Except Trump's not funny and would never apologize for any of his evergrowing list of wrongdoings - and crimes.
As usual, the 'otherguy did it' defense. Unlike HST, the buck only stops in his bank account.
He's incapable of taking responsibilities for any of the wrongdoings - and crimes - he's committed throughout his life.
SuperLib
Ouch.
PTownsend
By using the old Soviet era 'otherguys are worse' defense, you're indicating you can't defend Trump. Which is understandable.
Chip Star
It's easier to blame the democrats and media for Trump's total incompetence than to accept reality.
Laguna
Word has it that Trump is considering Mark Meadows, (R, NC) - leader of the House Freedom Caucus. He'd be a great choice as everyone hates him, even his fellow Repubs. Make America Grotesque Again; talk about a toxic working environment.
Deadforgood
@blacklabel
Nobody cares who he picks, nobody was hating on ayers, or kelly, in this thread. There should be a lot of pressure on picking someone for this position though...You clearly don't care about the government or the country.
Deadforgood
@bass4funk
How can we NOT know that he is uninterested in the position when he turned it down?
Trumps behavior is spontaneous, and occasionally irresponsible. This is not an opinion. It's an assertion based on 2 years of politics and a lifetime of business. I could have said "wild and rambunctious", but I felt spontaneous and irresponsible was the more accurate choice of wording.
Chip Star
This has been known since at least the late 70s.
Chip Star
Yet, somehow you always know what liberals are thinking. Got it.
Strangerland
The problem for Trump is that he already picked 'the best', then got rid of most of them, while badmouthing them on the way out, not at all showing any of the loyalty he whines about when people don't do what he said.
Now he wants other people to take the jobs, but why would they? They know they will be fired and badmouthed in a few months. Taking the job would only be a black mark on their employment. Better to say no.
Chip Star
People should be jumping at the chance for what once was a prestigious position. When nobody is doing that for the president, the president is struggling.
Funny to hear you whine about anyone changing the subject.
plasticmonkey
Names please. I know of no top ranking Democrats who follow their political enemies and their families to restaurants or their homes. Get real. And stop deflecting.
That's your problem that you can't think of any. Seriously.
You voted for an amoral, corrupt, and incompetent person to be president. And now you can't face that fact. Pretty sad, really.

bass4funk: "Goes to show you the persuasive antagonistic gutter snipe powers the Democrats and their msm sidekicks have to harass and intimidate anyone who dares get near this White House."
hahahah! THIS, from a TRUMP SUPPORTER! Classic. bass and others are so utterly desperate they're taking the sandbox retorts to new levels and actually just swiping Trump's name for "Dems" every chance they can. But hey, when they are so many "smocking" guns against them and they're leader is jail-bound in the near future, well, I guess it's a lot like Plato's Cave -- show them the truth and rather than accept it they go ballistic.
Chip Star
Unless you can provide cites to real examples of these people doing this, your assertion has no credibility. You know, how we can provide specific examples of Trump inciting and condoning violence as well as being racist.
And you cheer on Trump when he is repugnant, so have no leg upon which to stand and bitch about anyone else being uncivil. These are just people that aren't afraid to punch back.
Always with the irrelevant retortS.
smithinjapan
Blacklabel: "You will hate in advance anyone he picks, so he is fine to pick whoever he wants. No pressure at all."
Meant to add, the hypocrisy of your comment is that you'll automatically LOVE them simply because they are chosen -- same way you support a pardon for criminals simply because they refuse to testify before Mueller, ignoring their crimes completely -- then you'll hate them when they refuse, simply because they refused.
lincolnman
Nope, I've been very complimentary of Gen Kelly - one of the few adults in the kindergarten...
Just like a Trumper - "him" - notice no "her"...
I haven't seen one...
We should cheer on those that support democracy, not those in collusion with and supported by Russia...
He's a draft-dodging coward...
Of course you would - the more admitted felons the better, right? Let's bring back Manafort, Gates and Papadapolous too... They can hold cabinet meetings at Leavenworth. Sorry Omorossa, you haven't been convicted yet...
And you do know Flynn met with Mueller 19 times and provided "significant cooperation" in Mueller's "core investigation"...which is collusion.
Strangerland
Nah, it only exists in the right-wing deep-state fake-news MSM bubble. Doesn't exist in the real world.
smithinjapan
bass4funk: "Again, you can’t make that assertion, if you do it is your personal opinion."
Actually, it's fact -- and hence no one will accept Trump's positions aside from corrupt, white nationalists.
Toasted Heretic
Default answer.
lincolnman
Nope, didn't see it...
It's now up to 16 Trump campaign officials that met with Russians - and that's just what has been released.
And none of them. Trump or the others, should be called Commander in Chief, and be President - agree?
It's treason...and the Republicans in the Senate won't stand for it... And that's not counting the two conspiracy felonies and whatever financial crimes that comes out of the Trump Foundation investigation...
Trump is in a downward spiral similar to Nixon - with a much worse ending... I don't see Pence pardoning him like Ford did Nixon...

The Titanic has hit the iceberg, the ship is sinking, and the captain is trying to hire a new first mate.
wtfjapan
I wouldn’t say that, but I would say, the Democrats are fools if they think the GOP Senate will pass any of their radical policies. Two can play that game.
Rpublicans are idiots to think any of Trump's BS signature policies will make it past the house on the way to the senate, yes two can play at that game for sure.
lincolnman
Then you really didn't post...
Trump just confessed to colluding with Putin and taking millions in oligarch bribes! Bass: Ok, and?
Another Bass dodge. An appropriate reply would be Yes or No - too hard to answer?
The first part of your sentence are scientific facts. The remainder is the desperate pleas and outright denial of Trump cultists who can't fathom their Dear Leader being impeached for colluding with Russia, then being sent to jail for conspiracy, obstruction, and all manner of financial crimes...
I'm laughing...
The stench of Nixon is overwhelming - you see it everywhere; loyalists turning on Trump, no one wanting anything to do with the White House, everyone lawyering up...and most of all the desperation and denial...
Just to Mar-a Lockup...
lincolnman
And here's an excellent example of the world is not all black and white - and your assumption that just because Republicans have the majority in the Senate means they'll all vote to oppose impeachment is a fairy tale....

Ah_so
This is not the only vacancy - Trump has still not got round to filling a lot of positions in his administration. He lacks the attention span to consider such trivial matters.
Of course he will fill the chief of staff position eventually, but finding someone who is both capable and wants to be permanently tarnished by a soiled president may be a big ask. A talented 36 year old would do well to stay away and think of the future.
lincolnman
Hard to fill - I find that difficult to believe...I mean who wouldn't want to work for an idiot", someone who "doesn't read", presides over "Crazytown", is a "threat to our republic", and "has the understanding of a fifth grader"......
What better words of support can you get from those that directly work for him....
And you get such great words of thanks when you leave; you get called "dumb as a box of rocks", "a dog", a liar"...
The line must be miles long....
lincolnman
Hilarious - and sadly true...

Strangerland
Good. Better than letting Trump actually get his laws passed. The guy is owned by Russia, it's against the national interest to let him pass any laws, his motivations are not in the best interests of America.
Blacklabel
I personally hope he chooses Mike Flynn.
bass4funk
Then you really didn’t look.
Ok and?
ROFL!
As the desert has sand and the tide rolls in and the sun rises, the President won’t be removed for office, it just won’t happen. I worry about you guys, you’re setting yourselves up for a big let down, but to be fair, once he leaves office and that is, if he is indeed indicted, anything is possible, although, I doubt that he will go to prison.
Well you won’t be able to indict a sitting president anyway on that, even for the Senate to file charges in an indictment would be a joke.
Not even remotely close. Hey, if the Clinton’s didn’t see a prison cell, Trump won’t get anywhere near one. Let’s say for arguments sake, and hypothetically speaking if he were to get impeached and removed from office, Pence would be much more of a true religious conservative and would still continue the Trump agenda, so the Democrats really wouldn’t have achieved anything, I’m fact, there hellish nightmare would be just starting. I...2...Pence is coming for you....
Serrano
"Embattled Trump"
Pffft, he ain't goin' anywhere.
bass4funk
Probably and the same will be the opposite for the Democrats. If they think they can get any radical socialist legislation through to be signed by the Senate, good luck. Looks like we will have 2 years of gridlock.
bass4funk
I did more than a dozen times.
So I should cheer on repugnant Democrats? I don’t think so....
They can punch back, funny how Trump can do it by himself and the Democrats have to gang up to do it....interesting.
bass4funk
Not from the conservative sites, but the liberal ones though.
What? ROFL!
I don’t dodge, never did and ner would, you guys just don’t like the answer. I feel ya.
Thank you, sir.
Maybe once he’s out of office, the Dems can try, good luck with that. That would be too funny. But I know these people just can’t help themselves, they always have to overreach.
Not really...

Give it time, just been a few days.
blue in green
Does it help to soothe TDS, to mull over such a blatant untruth?
bass4funk
Then you didn’t look, I did my part.
“If that is the case then we can’t trust the Democrats either especially when it involves the Russians.
He wouldn’t be the first president to do so.
Which is not necessarily a crime, a crime where you can maybe indicted the President, but as loose and as it, the Senate might not even hold hearings, then what?
Blacklabel
You will hate in advance anyone he picks, so he is fine to pick whoever he wants. No pressure at all.
LIberals will say "not HIM.....!!!!" then go Google search to see to manufacture why they dont like the person.
bass4funk
No, I’m very good at math, I meant exactly what I said, “2024”
bass4funk
Either way, we don’t know, now that won’t stop liberals from speculating, but as of now we don’t know what this man is thinking or the reasons for him not wanting to take the position, if we could see exactly what a person would be thinking, then the age of mutants is really upon us.
At certain times, I wouldn’t argue with that.
bass4funk
Actually to be more specific, in my years on this planet I’m trying to think of a time when Democrats took responsibility for anything....huh...can’t think of any...
Blacklabel
Changed the topic already. How exactly Trump “struggling” to fill a key position that isn’t even available yet (someone is in it)
bass4funk
The top ranking Democrats do.
No, I’m not, really not.
I always do, don’t worry.
bass4funk
They are the ones that seemed obsesssivly irked by this President, go figure.
So why then do liberals weave and dodge them?
Yes, Manafort and Papadopoulos are a serious danger to humanity, lock the doors, the safety of the nation depends on it.
I’m not.
We don’t know that, neither your nor can can definitively make any accusations.
Again, you can’t make that assertion, if you do it is your personal opinion.
bass4funk
Goes to show you the persuasive antagonistic gutter snipe powers the Democrats and their msm sidekicks have to harass and intimidate anyone who dares get near this White House. So yes, it does make it harder for someone to want to work in this WH.
Blacklabel
Actually almost half.
bass4funk
To be accused by the Democrats want to accuse you of, to go after you, your family, follow you and your family to restaurants, go to your homes, verbally undermine and attack your actions or credibility.
I wouldn’t say that, but I would say, the Democrats are fools if they think the GOP Senate will pass any of their radical policies. Two can play that game.
Blacklabel
Hey what happened to the supposed “Republican” James Comey? Then he was “nonpartisan”, but the true colors are coming out now.
How is Trump “struggling” to fill the Chief of Staff because one guy decided his family is more important? The current guy hasn’t even finished yet. A “struggle” would be when the job been empty for weeks and no one wants it. Not the case.
