Check out the statistics. Not really what I would call pointless. But anecdotes are.

Political affiliation has nothing to do with a person's sexual preference. And how many of these stars planning to go to russia and protest in putins face? Better yet; how many of you who are complaining about russia yourself going to go? Its easy to tease a tiger when its behind steel bars.

Don't be a jerk! You are painting Republicans with a broad brush. Remember Dick Cheney's daughter is gay and HE supports gay rights, there are many, many Republicans that do and there are many liberals that don't. It just depends.

Boycotting the games will achieve very little and is unfair to the athletes who have worked and trained hard to get there .However the international gay comunity boycotting russian goods and services may have much more impact and will directly effect the russian economy in a way that Putinmay find harder to ignore .

The law, signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin in June, imposes fines and up to 15 days in prison for violators. Hefty fines are levied for holding gay pride rallies. Foreigners can be deported.

With an attitude like that any changes Russia makes for the Olympics will just be window dressing. It's not like the world can drag them into 2013 in 6 months.

We are now in the 21 st century and we know that ones sexuality is not a lifestyle choice or something "evil". We will now see millions of Russians going back to darker times, living in fear just because of what they are.

Good luck trying to change a country outside of the US/UK folks. These activists can try what they want, but this is a completely different country they're dealing with that has a completely different set of laws and beliefs. I'm interested in how much they'll try to push this in ME countries.

Russia is completely within their rights to outlaw perverse activities in their own country -- in particular in the public square, around Russian families and Russian children.

Athletes can go to Russia and participate in the games. There's no "discrimination" until they start violating Russia's laws and customs.
