I'm sure Jean was just joking or looking to push some buttons.

HonestDictator: I know quite a few gay republicans (just like there are gay Christians whoda thunk it hur!)so don't go off bickering how only liberals are for and conservatives are against. It's quite pointless.

Check out the statistics. Not really what I would call pointless. But anecdotes are.

"In that respect, international gay-rights activists are no different than Islamic extremists attempting to impose Sharia on non-muslims in secular countries."

There's a big difference from loud, usualy ugly LGBT activists with bad tatoos and horrific pearcings and blowing up women and children at the market Jean.

Give gays the equal rights they deserve and the activists have nothing to shriek about. Heh, and perhaps the latent homosexuals within the Republican party might finally stop ranting about perverted lifestylesand embrace that which they fear the most. A win - win !

@JeanValJean l not quite sure how protesting for the basic human rights to live my life safely and without fear of persecution or violence makes me the equivalent a lslamic terrorist .

" The problem here is that there are overzealous gay rights activists think they can bully their opinions on others and somehow force someone who doesn't agree with them to "change" their view which just isn't going to happen in Russia. That bear isn't going to have any of that. Russian activists will have to change the country from the inside, not some foreign group who do not reside in Russia telling them what to think."

Well said!

Whether you, I, or others not in Russia disagree with some domestic policy is irrelevant. In that respect, international gay-rights activists are no different than Islamic extremists attempting to impose Sharia on non-muslims in secular countries.

Hey why aren't the Putin back slippers here?

Political affiliation has nothing to do with a person's sexual preference. I know quite a few gay republicans (just like there are gay Christians whoda thunk it hur!)so don't go off bickering how only liberals are for and conservatives are against. It's quite pointless. And how many of these stars planning to go to russia and protest in putins face? Better yet; how many of you who are complaining about russia yourself going to go? Its easy to tease a tiger when its behind steel bars.

Communists are always walking like Crab.

"Who by the way, agree with Russia's view of homosexuality."

It would seem the head bangers in the Republican party seem to agree, although I'm calling out the suppression of their own latent tendancies as the main reason. It's kinda weird to see the radical left Anonymous crowd hand in hand with the extreme right but hey these are weird times....

@Wolfpack Couldn't agree more. Both stupid, aren't they?

@Jimizo:

Always interesting how the US rightwingers can find common cause with big, thuggish, intrusive governments trampling on freedoms as long as they dislike those being trampled on.

Kind of like how US arch-Liberals find common cause with the thuggish terrorists such as the PLO who kill people with different world views as long as they dislike those being killed. Who by the way, agree with Russia's view of homosexuality.

Please, please, please keep talking like this. And please, please, please, remind people over and over again that you're Republican.

Don't be a jerk! You are painting Republicans with a broad brush. Remember Dick Cheney's daughter is gay and HE supports gay rights, there are many, many Republicans that do and there are many liberals that don't. It just depends.

Boycotting the games will achieve very little and is unfair to the athletes who have worked and trained hard to get there .However the international gay comunity boycotting russian goods and services may have much more impact and will directly effect the russian economy in a way that Putinmay find harder to ignore .

The law, signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin in June, imposes fines and up to 15 days in prison for violators. Hefty fines are levied for holding gay pride rallies. Foreigners can be deported.

With an attitude like that any changes Russia makes for the Olympics will just be window dressing. It's not like the world can drag them into 2013 in 6 months.

RomeoRII: Russia is completely within their rights to outlaw perverse activities in their own country -- in particular in the public square, around Russian families and Russian children.

Please, please, please keep talking like this. And please, please, please, remind people over and over again that you're Republican.

We are now in the 21 st century and we know that ones sexuality is not a lifestyle choice or something "evil". We will now see millions of Russians going back to darker times, living in fear just because of what they are.

Good luck trying to change a country outside of the US/UK folks. These activists can try what they want, but this is a completely different country they're dealing with that has a completely different set of laws and beliefs. I'm interested in how much they'll try to push this in ME countries.

Romeo - look out! There's a gay guy behind you!

Athletes can go to Russia and participate in the games. There's no "discrimination" until they start violating Russia's laws and customs.
