But then they go and back up the present Ukrainian government that elevated an raging nationalist anti-Semite Stephan Bandera and UPA to hero status giving awards only to retract after protest by other European countries.

So it seems quite clear the the EU, the West in general doesn't really care about this if it did it would require places like the Ukraine to rid the government of the hard right before any business, aid, etc...

Holocaust denial and anti-semitism go hand in hand, but not the way the libs in Europe think. By making holocause denial a crime, you only feed the paranoid narrative that the Jews control the courts and government, thus giving the anti-semites more ammunition.

Denying historical reality is stupid, but a crime? It is a dangerous precedent when the government decides which thoughts a person is allowed to have.

I think you need to get out of your partisan US bubble here. This isn’t a clear ‘lib’ ( whatever that means in the context of European politics ) issue.

I’d add that I’m not sure all Holocaust deniers are explicit anti-semites. I’ve come across Holocaust deniers who are the most pathological of conspiracy theorists and swallowed the whole package - faked moon landings, stolen elections, hoax pandemics, etc. Holocaust denial is just part of what they digested.

I’m with you in being against holocaust denial laws as I see them as counterproductive. It’s best to get this out in the open and we can ridicule the lot of them - left, right, Islamist, conspiracy crackpot etc.

Not only in the EU....but the threat from far-right, racist and anti-Semitic militia groups has drastically increased over the past four years in the US....

And as the number of Confederate flags at Trump rallies and on Jan 6th show, we know why....

But never anti-white hate, curious

There is something so very Caucasian about reading a story about the attempted exterminator of a minority group and responding with “How can I make this about me?”

Denying historical reality is stupid, but a crime? It is a dangerous precedent when the government decides which thoughts a person is allowed to have.

They are perfectly free to think about how the Holocaust didn’t happen just like I’m perfectly free to think about yelling fire in a crowded theater. You’re allowed to think whatever you please; doesn’t mean you ought to be allowed to say it, when it contributes to people being harmed.

In Europe one can deny the existence of God or question anything he/she want, but no one can deny, question or suspect the Holocaust. Even a giant like Roger Garaudy was jailed because demanded an evidence of the figures given about this Holocaust. Besides, why is it ok that 27 million Soviet citizens & about 20 million people of other nations were killed in WWII, but the only lives that matter are the lives of Jews & Germany has to pay only for the Jewish survivors?

There's no evidence & there never was one. If there were any evidence, there would be no objection whatsoever to any denial. The EVIDENCE is a powerful argument against any denial.

So lemme get this straight. Your “proof” that the Holocaust didn’t happen is the fact that people call Holocaust denial what it actual is - a lie by anti-Semites. The level of intellectual atrophy is impressive, but not at all surprising when it comes to Nazi apologists. I’m sure Mossad painted all that Prussian blue on the walls as part of a globalist, Rothschild conspiracy to smear those poor, innocent Nazis as foretold in The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, right? In the end, all you are is a bigoted conclusion in desperate search of non-existent proof, who papers over the yawning chasms in their beliefs with wild conspiracies to stave off the gnawing, but unkillable realization that you’re wrong.

@M. Jamil

Garaudy demanded evidence and, like every Holocaust denier, when presented with said evidence, either dismissed it out of hand or claimed it was part of a conspiracy. The evidence for the Holocaust is overwhelming. It’s out there. It’s in the open. It is the mark of a terrible “academic” to demand someone show you the evidence instead of seeking out the evidence yourself. It is not the job of the educated to teach lessons to the willfully ignorant.

And what’s with this BS about no one getting reparations but the Jews? C’mon, no one is this ignorant by accident. In addition to ceding large swathes of territory to the allied nations, German infrastructure, industry, and personnel were given to the allied nations as replacements for the destruction of those things by the Nazis.

But if you wanna talk money, let’s talk money. Here is a list of groups that WEREN’T the Jews who received money from Nazi Germany

Poland: In addition to the equivalent of €1.5 billion in material compensation, Germany paid Poland over 4 billion złoty. And this was AFTER Poland had waived their right to reparations.

Greece: received over $25 billion worth of money and material reparations, including 115 million Marks in direct payments to civilians

Israel: $14 billion paid all the way up to 1989.

The Netherlands: 25 billion guilders plus 280 million marks for the return of 69 square km of German territory.

Yugoslavia: $36 million in industrial material plus 8 million Marks in direct payment to civilians.

Soviet Union: Read the Paris Peace Treaty of 1947. I’m not listing all the stuff they got.

And much more.

But no, please. Go on. Continue acting like Jewish people were the only ones who were compensated.

Just another example of someone seeing an article about people being persecuted and getting mad that THEY aren’t the center of attention.

Jimizo, I am neither partisan nor American, but I do agree about the laws. And yes there are a few people who are deniers as part of their overall paranoia, but the majority are raging anti-semites.
