The Nobel Prize jumped the shark a long time ago.

What a complete and utter joke. The squabbling members couldn't even agree to a Constitution. Parts of members states are openly pushing to break away from their existing countries. They are complete zeros on the diplomatic front, just look at Iran when the US was on the sidelines and left the negotiating up to the Europeans. No progress at all. They constantly play both sides of the coin regarding the Middle East. When Spain and Morocco had their island dispute who did they call to broker a deal? Colin Powell, not any European leader. Not only did they leave the world in tatters when they lost control, they did the next worst thing by refusing to do anything about the mess they made. They do nothing for world peace and when they do they take the easy way out. Their governments are both selfish and gutless.

It's time for the Nobel Committee to stop giving out "Peace Prizes". They are clueless.

Obama got the award for not being George W Bush ( I did appreciate the humour in that, however ). I don't get the joke this time.

I think the joke is on them?

SuperLib, I couldn't agree more. After Obama getting the award, and now the EU, it's become an utter farce.

Not surprising. President Obama and former Sec of state, Henry Kissinger were also awarded the Nobel "peace" prize. Also, did you guys know that Adolf Hitler almost won the Nobel peace prize as well for democratic peaceful election in Weimar Germany?

I'll have to agree with Lech Walesa, an actual Nobel Prize winner.

EU gets paid to do this. Thus its award is a mockery to the Nobel Prize. Given that they gave it to Obama before while still fighting a war, the Prize has no idea what its ideals are anymore.

Why didn't the UN, NATO, IMF, NA, SA, NBA, NFL, NHL, WWE, FIFA, MLB, or the WB get the NP? Sarcasm.

NATO has been far more instrumental in maintaining peace in Europe. They really should stop giving out these peace prizes. It detracts from the other awards.

60 years without war. Any other power got a call on that?

60 years without war. Any other power got a call on that?

You mean 60 years without civil war. Considering that EU member states have been involved in numerous wars elsewhere...

For Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti, the prize should encourage EU governments and people to press forward, “overcoming the current economic difficulties.”

This is what it's about, basically.

With the EU, the people of Eurpoe have a union that puts them on a par with the USA and China, which helps balance the equation.

Herve Nmn L'Eisa; SuperLib, I couldn't agree more. After Obama getting the award, and now the EU, it's become an utter farce.

I do not agree with radicals. You are helpless.

ubikwit:

" With the EU, the people of Eurpoe have a union that puts them on a par with the USA and China, which helps balance the equation. "

No, they don´t. With the EU, Europe has created an undemocraty bureaucratic monster that tries to the the formly democratic states into a new Sowjet style empire headquartered in Brussel.

The decision is of the Nobel comitee does not need to be paried, it is a parody itself. But who is surpised about that when considering to whome these clowns have previously awareded Nobel prizes.

@Superlib Wow! That is one furious anti-euro rant. The last time I heard something like that was Fox News talking about how appalling European health care was. The decision was a strange one, but demonising the European Union is a bit excessive.

I'm here to announce that the 2013 Nobel Peace Prize goes to NATO, congratulation!!
