In February, the BBC reported on results published in 'The Lancet', that Sputnik V gives around 92% protection against Covid and is safe to use. That is hardly an attempt to undermine it.

Russians may doubt the vaccine, because it was state produced, and their state/media is controlled by Putin. But all the evidence suggests that Russian scientists have succeeded in producing a viable contender, as good as any others.

No vaccine is 100% safe for everyone. There will always be side-effects. The emergency licensing procedures take that into account. We are all rolling the dice, because the rewards hugely outweigh the risks. The EMA, like the Japanese authorities, need to get moving with an emergency licensing protocol for a faster vaccine rollout.

Those in power should be aware by now that a failure to ramp up vaccinations and the consequent need for more lockdowns will directly impact their future chances at the ballot box.

Sputnik V is an adenovirus viral vector vaccine just like AstraZeneca. Would not be surprised if all that news about AstraZeneca vaccine causing blood clots was amplified by Russian trolls.

"spread fake news that the West and the European Union are trying to undermine the shot"

Because the Russians will always accuse the West of doing what they themselves are actually adept at doing.

Western democracies very rarely, if ever, have their political opponents and journalists murdered, so it doesn't work both ways all the time actually. Also, most western countries aren't kleptocracies (the US kinda was for the last 4 years but that fortunately ended). So there are many things the West can honestly accuse Russia of doing!

Russia has launched a major campaign using ministries, companies and pro-Kremlin media to promote the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine and spread fake news that the West and the European Union are trying to undermine the shot, an EU agency said in a report Wednesday.

And Russia's partners in the far-right media sphere help spread their lies and disinformation to their weak-minded viewers...

And one wonders why Trump got his vaccine in secret....

This has all the hallmarks of Pfizer coming out and admitting its vaccine is nowhere near as effective as they told the public but not to worry or pay any attention it. Not because the information is false, but because Russian media reported it.

The problem for the Sputnik vaccine is that very early on, it was approved in Russia as a coronavirus vaccine before completing the standard test phases to confirm it was safe and effective.

It may or may not be the best one out there. However, rushing it out to "be the first" affected it's credibility,

Ah there you are Russian propagandists!
