Brave Russians there speaking out against their brutal despot for life.

Again it looks like Russia’s peoples won’t be allowed to have an open form of democracy. But maybe it’s only a minority of Russians who want that. It appears the majority are more comfortable with the different forms of autocracy they’ve had for the last few centuries.
As long as Putin and his oligarchs leave other nation’s affairs alone, don’t try to meddle with other nation’s politics, don’t try to undermine their respective forms democracies and replace them with a Russian-style police state or Russian controlled puppet, that’s fine.
Another example of Putin and his oligarchs restricting opposition. But again, if the majority of Russians want another tsar or Stalin and want to live under a police state, that’s their prerogative.

I think I saw Victoria Nuland handing out cookies again.
Sheesh AFP. Everyone knows it was a CIA coup. No reason to try to cover up the lies anymore. The EU wanted to extort money from Ukraine in a signing agreement to join them. It was too expensive and that's why he went back to Russia and their loans.

It's a pity the opposition to Putin happens to be ultra nationalist Navalny

This story may be about Russia and brave Russians resisting a dictator, but let's not forget that this vision of absolute political power and the disenfranchisement of political protests as legitimate public avenues of free expression is exactly what Trump wants for the United States!
Matt Hartwell
What are you talking about?
I have seen no effort by Trump to block public protest. In fact, I seem to recall a statement from the White House praising the fact that hundreds of thousands turned out for that anti-gun violence rally a while back after the school shooting exercising their democratic right to protest. He hates the mainstream media (unless its Fox) but I see no attempt made to take basic rights away from Americans.

Huh? How do think you can get away with such a ridiculous comment?

But not Spain. Or Ukraine

The West defends its stooge. I don't remember EU and others to produce even slightest sound after Ferguson. "The Outstanding Duplicity Reward goes to......"

The article's about Russia. Do you think the police were justified in arresting protesters, and at the same allowing the 'paramilitary activists' to attack them? Sounds similar to something that happened a bit more than 100 years ago.
And out of curiosity, do you think Navalny is less nationalistis than Putin? They both seem extremely nationalistic.
Asakaze
Absolutely. Navalny supporters were allowed to have their demonstration in another place, but Navalny preferred to stage his show in the center of the city, ignoring public order, disrupting traffic and bothering people who had no desire to see him. When the police demanded him to return to the designated place he refused and started scuffles with the police. Out of curiosity, what happens in US or Europe to people who disobey police officers and pick up a fight with them?
Navalny nationalistic?? You must be kidding. He is just a con artist. He earns money by his performancies like one on Saturday - "look everybody, the savage tyrant does not allow me to do what I want, call the State Department immediately".

Catalonia? Anyone? Disgusting hypocrites

Wallace Fred, exactly. Sickening hypocrisy.

Asakaze, right on.
