I think what needs to be clear is that anti-zionist and anti-Israeli government is not anti-semitism. Criticism of Israel and it's government is not criticism of Jewish people. If people are lashing out at jews randomly then that is anti-semitism....but if the negativity is against the Israeli government and its treatment of the Palestinian people (which is ALSO anti-semitism btw but we're not allowed to mention that) then it is NOT anti-semitic in nature.

How to stop antisemitism?

Stop them treating Palestinians like animals and stealing their land! That would be a great start!

There is a certain segment of the population for whom every time things get tough domestically, no matter how thoroughly it’s been debunked, the go to reaction will be “it’s the (insert minority here) fault.”

In Europe it seems to be Jews. In America, it’s immigrants and “globalists” (because xenophobes can’t say “it’s the Jews” in America anymore).

One would really think that a documented mass murder of 6 million people on the basis of their religion would be enough to wake the planet from this nightmare of stupidity and ignorance.

Being against the Zionist policies and actions of Israel is not antisemitism. The tide is turning in support for Israel as more people realize the truth and see through the pro Israel lobbies propaganda.

Not true. It was on full display at the infamous Charlottesville "Unite the Right" demonstration to the point of some chanting "Jews will not replace us" Most of the other chants, signs carried and shirts worn cannot be quoted here.

Anti Semitism in Europe considerably pre-dates the modern state of Israel. It goes back to the founding of the Catholic Church. Find out what the Catholics once taught about the blood "curse of Pontius Pilate", Find out what the "blood libel" was (for the modern day version replace Jews with "democratic elite", they are otherwise the same). The Black Plague was blamed on Jews who were rumored to have magical powers. It was Christian anti-Semitism that motivated the Crusades and the Inquisition. Protestants were not much better. Martin Luther wrote a book "On Jews and their Lies" thus Protestantism because a continuation of medieval Catholic anti-Semitism and the book is considered a milestone on the path to the organized anti-Semitism and killing machine of the Nazis. All of this considerably pre-dates WWII much less the founding of the modern state of Israel. In Europe it seems any time there is economic and social stress, Jews are blamed for their misfortune.

I would amend my statement to say that "other than virulent racists and wanna be domestic terrorists, casual xenophobes cannot say "It's the Jews" in America anymore." Thus the term "globalists" coined by Bannon et al. with it's wink, wink, nod, nod anti-Semitic undertones.

By and his alt right ilk have pushed that word, but I first read it used by Nazis in the 1930s. And others have said, anti-Jewish movements have been fundamental to European history.

And though Hitler and followers were blatant about a 'final solution', Stalin might have killed more people, while also targeting Jews. But Stalin was on the winning side in WW2, so Russia has been able to partially re-write and whitewash USSR's involvements.

Timothy Snyder's "Bloodlands" has frightening accounts of the evils committed by both Hitler's forces and Stalin's. Totalitarianism and cult of personality gone mad. And still today there are people who push against democracy, and push for 'strongman' leadership.

I'm a little intrigued by the photos depicting Jewish people (adults and kids) with orthodox hairstyles. How common is this? I'm asking because when I went to primary school in Scotland, about a quarter of the kids in my school were Jewish. None of them or their parents had such hairstyles. (A local Rabii who sometimes visited the school had a bushy beard.) Later when I lived in Japan, I met and worked with a number of Jewish people from the States. None of them had orthodox hairstyles. These days, when I visit the neighbourhood I grew up in, I see some Jewish men with orthodox hair and clothes - not many, but I saw none when I was young. So is there a trend towards orthodoxy in Jewish communities?

And yet in one of those delicious ironies of history, Zionism was driven precisely by Russian and Polish pogroms. The whole idea of fleeing Europe and establishing a Jewish homeland in the former land of Israel was born out of the death and oppression Jews faced in Europe. Another fun irony is that the Kibbutz is very much a socialist commune not that much different from what one found in the USSR or later Communist China. Different in execution, true, but the same idea. Israel early on was very much a socialist country and even today has an Army run radio station. Yet that was ok with the US and the rest of the west.

The biggest part of that problem is intentionally imported, not having thought about the consequences that brings it with, for example those. Now they are astonished and complain, but nothing else could be expected.

Israel could give up all of their land and then some and it still wouldn’t give the Jewish people peace or security. As long as the Israeli Jews are alive, the Palestinians will always be a threat to them, so basically it just wouldn’t matter in the end.
