Mr Kipling
Russia will follow suit and ban those countries from its considerably large airspace. This could mean some problems for anyone traveling to Europe from Japan.

Finally Canada decided to do the right things Great news!

They actually don't even have to. Lufthansa and KLM/Air France have officially suspended all flights going through Russian airspace. With Aeroflot not landing in Europe anymore, and low-cost carriers never having a Russian flyover permission in the first place that leaves what? Finnair? Finland also banned Russian airlines and they are now pretty much waiting to be banned from Russian air space.
For the foreseeable future air travel between Europe and Asia will be ... difficult. Emirates is probably as happy about the situation as morality allows.
But also: No flyover travel, none of the (apparantly significant) flyover fees for Russia.

@MrKipling, who cares? Nobody in his/her right mind would consider flying from Japan to Europe now.
@bass4funk, the main thing Canada has to do now is constantly fly its air force, with partnership from the US, over the entire north pole. Canada and Russia are the major players up there, and if Putin even considers for a minute that he can launch a nuke at the US, it's going to come over the pole.
It's too bad we don't have the submarines to do the job. But, our southern ally does. And, we have NORAD. It's time to suit-up.

I have to correct myself, I forgot about the obvious ones: ANA, JAL and the Chinese carriers are still in the air over Siberia. For now.

Russia in tatters.
They spend decades trying to fracture the West. They only made it stronger.

Some restaurants are renaming ‘poutine’. Freedom fries v2.0
Canada does a lot right, you only have to look at the Russian protest police response to see the clear difference.
Mr Kipling
TrevorPeace...
Why? France isn't at war, nor Germany... The flights are going to avoid the conflict areas.... Siberia is very far from Ukraine.
Some flights will have to change their route. The UK has banned Aeroflot so Russia will follow suit and ban BA.
The Gulf airlines will be dancing with joy.

you have studied ballistic missiles, low orbit and hypersonic technology or undersea based launch platforms I guess.

Europe and canada do the right thing.
Where is the current U.S. administration? Why hasn't the White House made this move?
Taki Mata
They already have, 3 days ago. Not that they would have had to: By that time, BA already announced they will avoid Russian airspace.
