No, the leaders have been issuing lockdowns and imposing mask mandates

and they still are. And there is nothing to stop it happening again. But the screams from the anti-mandate/anti-authority crowd was always about governments imposing these things and never giving back your freedom. If that was truly what was going to happen, it would still be like that. I’ve never seen a group of guys be so consistently wrong about everything before. The only difference here is that omicron is seen to be less severe and more manageable. Something else comes along, you watch what happens.

t capitalism has SAVED untold millions of people from starvation and poverty

And millions have been killed , and starved and made poorer because of wars fought to further enrich the ruling caste.

Only took 2 years for logic to reign. The statistics on Covid have always been crystal clear- it mostly impacts old, sick, unhealthy, obese people. This is unlike the Spanish Flu, which everyone cites as an example- the Spanish Flu hit younger people just as hard, if not harder. Covid has been clear since the beginning.

...and untold millions saved from horrid fates due to capitalist nations intervening in the evil plans of authoritarian regimes.

Invasion and imperialism is good, got it.

Look at the prosperity that socialist/communist regimes like Red China or the Soviet Union brought to their own people, never mind their exporting of their poisonous philosophy.

China brought more people out of poverty in the last 50 years than any other nation in history.

Don't get me wrong, I think China's politics are trash and an absolute betrayal of socialism. But if you're going to cry about bringing people out of poverty, China is not the go-to. Just as an FYI.

Vaccine passports will eventually be dropped worldwide.

The holdouts will be vindicated.

and

Been saying this since last year.

Lol. Everybody has. It's as if you guys think this is news and something that people weren't aware of. Vaccine passports were always going to be a temporary measure until the disease could be managed well enough for the majority. It's not vindication. It's stupid to think that.

We are pretty much there. Politicians have been running late since the start of the pandemic.

The developing world (which has much higher mortality anyway, from diseases and other issues) is moving at much the same pace, even if the vaccines are lagging. After Omicron peaks, they will switch to treating it like flu too.

International travel is already on the path back to normal in the UK. The use of Covid passes is being phased out too. I can't see Macron pursuing his restrictions for the unvaccinated when the folks across the water have returned to normal. He will need a new target for his populist electioneering. The UK has not had the strict vaccine mandates of other European countries, but still managed high jab rates. Some of the policies nations have imposed have been ugly and smacked of a previous era of persecution.

Any country running with Covid Zero will remain cut off and isolated, with increasing social and economic damage. I don't think that will last for long. I can't see China operating citywide lockdowns and freezing its economy for Omicron. The CCP must be starting to wonder about the road Xi is leading them on.

You cannot hide from a pandemic - you are just delaying the inevitable. You have to weather it and get through it as best you can. I'm not convinced we did it particularly well and I doubt that we will learn the lessons of it, unless those lessons suit your government's policy objectives.

Perhaps the thing we lacked the most was trust in our governments. The changes for that to happen are not ours to make. That change has to come from politicians. If they do not become more honest, more transparent and more benign, we will never trust them.

Eventually, the number of 'Covid deaths' in the UK will be adjusted down. They have always counted anyone who died, regardless of what they died of, if they had tested positive for Covid in the previous four weeks. I don't know why the scales were tilted in such a manner. Perhaps it was just easier. In future, a more clinical approach might be taken.

This has cost us two years of time and a great deal of money that should have been spent on climate change mediation. Perhaps we can now focus on that, each of us making our own contribution, crowd-sourcing a reduction of our carbon footprint. It will never be small, but we can reduce it without returning to living in caves.

Of course, by contrast capitalism has SAVED untold millions of people from starvation and poverty.

And therefore we should sacrifice people for it like it's a volcano God. Cool. Cool opinion.

As opposed to socialism and/or communism, who have such a good record in human rights and prosperity...

You're literally arguing that people should die from a preventable disease to protect capitalism and citing human rights as the reason? Okay.

Analysis of data and low hospital admissions are something other countries make plans with but Japan obviously can’t.

I watched a piece on the Health Office in Tochigi on the box and saw what it is all about..

People ring up and complain of feeling unwell and they are told to complete an online questionnaire.

Nothing about visiting a hospital or going to a doctor at all.

This is Japan…

Express sister

No it isn't, no matter what the latter half of a sandwich tells you.

Yes it is, read what the signers of the Great Barrington Declaration, the Rome declaration, the Doctors for Covid Ethics, Frontline Doctors etc etc said already 2 years ago. There is a whole world of open discussion, no matter what the the corporate media bubble tells you.

If you're still scared feel free to stay inside. Nobody is dragging you out.

Bingo!

Europe considers new COVID-19 strategy: Accepting the virus

....wich is what sensible scientists said from the start. But no, the authoritarians just had to try and emulate the CCP style "zero Covid" policy. So glad to see that finally common sense returns. I do hope politcal heads will roll among the worst offenders (Australia, Canada, Austria...)

"Vaccine-acquired immunity, coupled with widespread infection, offers a chance to concentrate prevention efforts, testing and illness-tracking resources on moderate- to high-risk groups"

Which is how it should have been treated all along! they know and knew who the high risk groups were yet carpet vaccinated anyway! Nice to see they are finally coming to their senses!

I know this was going to happen. Been saying this since last year. Now hopefully we can panic less, and move forward live our lives normally.

-1 ( +7 / -8 )

Finding we may just have to live with it? - Yes @ExpressSister 9:52am but there are over 32,000 hive worlds with a total estimated population of over 4,986,520,000,000,000. So, in that light, what’s a 1000 souls a day ‘in the grand scheme of things? /s

@Express sister 9:52am: “The tabletop game Warhammer 40K features an undead emperor, whose powers are only sustained by sacrificing 1,000 people every day. This is meant to be an example of a horrible dystopia.

“In the real world, over 1,000 people are dying a day…”

The Great Barrington Declaration was sponsored by the American Institute for Economic Research, a libertarian free-market think tank associated with climate change denial.[13][14][15]

So we've got science denial from nutjobs on your first citation, good stuff.

the Rome declaration

Okay, let's see.

Reaffirm that the pandemic continues to be an unprecedented global health and socio-economic crisis, with disproportionate direct and indirect effects on the most vulnerable, on women, girls and children, as well as on frontline workers and the elderly. It will not be over until all countries are able to bring the disease under control and therefore, large-scale, global, safe, effective and equitable vaccination in combination with appropriate other public health measures remains our top priority, alongside a return to strong, sustainable, balanced and inclusive growth.

Oh, so vaccines are good, according to you. Glad you've come around.

Doctors for Covid Ethics

It's actually "Doctors 4 Covid Ethics", run by a strip-mall laywer, Randy Corporon.

Frontline Doctors

Oh, let's check them.

America's Frontline Doctors (AFLDS) is an American right-wing political organization.[1][2][3] Affiliated with Tea Party Patriots co-founder Jenny Beth Martin

You accuse others of being in a bubble when the only media you consume is far-right unscientific nonsense.

COVID-19 “must be treated like the rest of illnesses…

Exactly that is the completely false logic, because it is now added to the catalog of diseases and not only replacing one or a few others. With other words, that accepting of all new diseases has to be stopped! When will you stop it if not now, having already accepted HIV, Ebola, now Covid and who knows what else fill follow? Do you really want to test the limits or see us all die sooner than necessary? Step back from that wrong logic , accepting any new disease as it wouldn’t affected us! That would be only valid or an option if viewed separately and only one disease occurs replacing a former one, but that’s not the case, can’t you understand that quickly?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

The tabletop game Warhammer 40K features an undead emperor, whose powers are only sustained by sacrificing 1,000 people every day. This is meant to be an example of a horrible dystopia.

In the real world, over 1,000 people are dying a day in the name of capitalism. And no-one cares. In fact, some of the more deluded cheer for it.

Shameful.

Lol. Everybody has.

No, the leaders have been issuing lockdowns and imposing mask mandates upping their draconian rules to keep people as sequestered as long as they could.

It's as if you guys think this is news and something that people weren't aware of.

No, most people knew it was all a joke, but the leaders for some greedy federal reasons thinks this control for society is all necessary….yeah, sure…

Vaccine passports were always going to be a temporary measure until the disease could be managed well enough for the majority. It's not vindication. It's stupid to think that.

Sorry, the government is now realizing across the globe people are not taking it and that’s why the msm is downplaying the protests and people finally standing up and fighting back. Freedom never tasted so good.

I have been feeling a bit under the weather for the past few days. Might be covid but I couldn't get bothered to get tested as I consider this to be a waste of time and money. I will go to my local bar this evening or tomorrow and after a few whiskys all is cured.
