According to other articles it looks like Trump's best friend

Putin is behind this.

I think it would be fair to say, unless you have the resources to keep up with Microsoft bugs generation prowess, you shouldn't rely on Microsoft software.

Well, I guess we have figured out how Trump plans to repay that $840 million in personal loans he owes to "someone"...

He gave the Treasury Dept passwords to Putin and said "Help yourself"...

Probably China again, wonder what Biden will do about China......methinks...nothing

He could invest heavily in business interests there, like 45. He could have a bank account there, congratulate Xi on building prison camps for the Uighurs, his family could get their trade markrequests fast tracked there... like 45.

He could be the kind of hypocritical PotUS who says one thing in public and does another in private.

China hacks, Russia hacks, the US hacks, as do so many others.

That ugly situation isn't going to change, no matter who is in the White House.

No security is safe when the resources of a nation-state is behind an attack

It's an arms race- - there are smart people on both sides

Clinton's State Department email servers were hacked multiple times, to the point that she felt using a non-govt email address for business was necessary.

That wasn't the whole reason. USG IT systems are often incompatible with many common commercial software products. The security features used on USG systems either blocks many commercial products or makes them run ridiculously slow. For USG employees it is just something one has to deal with as part of the job. But for dealing with outside entities, business and other governments, it can be frustrating to the point of the outside entities telling the USG to go someplace very hot. When you can't even send an e-mail with an attachment to someone in government because their software blocks that particular e-mail product companies and other organizations give up trying. I know in my own case if I try to e-mail something from my personal e-mail account to my work e-mail it won't go. If I use a g-mail account it will however. Those are the kinds of frustrations those outside government face when dealing with USG IT systems. Instead some cabinet level officials and not just the US State Department under Clinton, her predecessor Colin Powell did the same, chose to use outside servers running software that is more compatible with those of the people and organizations they need to interact with productively to get their job done.

Not one Republican is anti-democracy, they like capitalism to remain the gold standard

The Repubes do not support competitive markets. They knowingly and willingly permit vast markets to be dominated by oligopolies and monopolies. They whine about creeping socialism when that is not even remotely a problem in the US. Rather it is the ever increasing market power of fewer and fewer firms in many important consumer markets, driving up prices and reducing output, that is the far greater problem with the US economy. But those same companies that merge and buy up competitors are shoveling vast sums of money at their re-election campaigns so nothing is said and instead they whine about socialism that doesn't exist.

and for people to live as they choose

As long as you are a white heterosexual and profess to be a christian.

He will work with America's allies for a change to confront China, as they are all now asking for a unified approach to the Chinese threat. Even the Europeans are tired of China's "wolf warrior" diplomats and their threats of retaliation. Nobody in the US at any level of government is sympathetic to the Chinese.

Btw, most of the new weapons coming on line now to deal with the Chinese threat began their development eight to ten years ago.

So did the Trumper's when they supported Ivanka using a private email server to run government business. The obviously didn't mind looking being hypocritical by going hysterical over Clinton's emails, while ignoring Ivanka's.

Not one Republican is anti-democracy

They why do they continue their War on Voting?

they like capitalism to remain the gold standard

The Republicans have been trying to force the Chinese style of capitalism - unbridled capitalism in an authoritarian state.

So to cut this really short, you’re trying to say, allow big government to take over everything and snub out small family businesses is ok? Interesting, well that’s the lefts take, good to know.

What in the Democratic Blue world does 'small family businesses' have anything to do with monopolies or oligopolies?

I have zero confidence that the USgovt internet connected systems are secure. They keep running MS-Windows and using MS-Exchange. They need to stop that.

Clinton's State Department email servers were hacked multiple times, to the point that she felt using a non-govt email address for business was necessary. Right or wrong, in hindsight, I'm inclined to think she was more right than wrong. Yes, I reviewed the public FBI reports on those email servers. I've been running corporate email servers since the mid-1990s.

If the US Govt cannot properly maintain their systems, then need to outsource those systems to people who can. I can think of 5 reputable US companies who could setup and maintain email for all the USGovt internet-facing email inside USGovt data centers. First step is to remove all direct login access from end users from outside govt networks - basically, only allow logins when using a VPN. I know this because I did it to my clients after seeing thousands of attempted logins every hour to my servers from a few specific countries in the world. Put that access behind a VPN, problem solved.

Oh - and don't trust any VPN or network security claims made by MSFT. I understand the most recent claim is that RDP on Win10 doesn't need a VPN to provide security. B.S. People have a short memory and don't recall all the security failures in RDP and in MSFT created VPN protocols. Use a real VPN, created by someone else - staying away from Cisco-VPN is probably a good idea too. Force the use of a hardware token 2FA for the VPN, not software.

Thanks - I'll be here all week. Please tip your waitstaff.

Some reports say Russia again. But expect the kook right, anti-democracy, pro-Russia, pro-Trump crowd to disbelieve what the US intelligence agencies have found. Again.

The sources said the US had briefed its allies in Europe about the hack and determined Russia to be the culprit

Turns out it's SolarWinds

I have absolutely No idea what that means, but whatever.....

He will work with America's allies for a change to confront China,

Like he did over the last 12 years?? Well, we’re in big trouble now.

Btw, most of the new weapons coming on line now to deal with the Chinese threat began their development eight to ten years ago.

So it means as in the Obama years, nothing will happen, sad, shocking, but good to know.

No one is disputing that, but China is the one that wants US access to anything they can obtain.

Some reports say Russia again.

Probably not true, the msm have been spreading Russia disinformation for the last 4 years and it would seem the only thing that was true was that the Feds were dealing with a British spy to float and create an unverified and salacious dossier, but the real threat is probably either from China and to a lesser extent North Korea.

But expect the kook right, anti-democracy, pro-Russia,

Not one Republican is anti-democracy, they like capitalism to remain the gold standard and for people to live as they choose and Russia, I’m surprised that The msm isn’t tired of that deflated and debunked narrative.

pro-Trump crowd to disbelieve what the US intelligence agencies have found. Again

When GW Bush was in office the Democrats were absolutely doggish and skeptical about the intel community when it came to spying and anything related to national security, they thought they’re overreaching their Federal powers, boy how that has all changed since then.
