Only someone with something to hide fears a perjury trap.

Mueller holds all the cards as the hysterical outbursts of tweets from screaming Cheeto intensify. This thing is about to explode, and implode.

Grab the popcorn....

14 ( +15 / -1 )

I'd be worried if I was him.

"So if I say something and he (Comey) says something, and it's my word against his, and he's best friends with Mueller, so Mueller might say: 'Well, I believe Comey,' and even if I'm telling the truth, that makes me a liar. That's no good."

Imagine that. The justice system reduced to Trump word salad.

And I’ve decided to stay out. Now I don’t have to stay out.

Make your mind up.

“I can go in, and I could do whatever — I could run it if I want. But I decided to stay out,” he said. “I’m totally allowed to be involved if I wanted to be. So far, I haven’t chosen to be involved. I’ll stay out.”

Desperate, incoherent babbling. He'll be a right old spectacle on the stand.

16 ( +16 / -0 )

It isn't really a 'perjury trap' for Trump. More like a 'Choosing the best lie to submit under oath-trap'. Keeping track of all his treachery & contradictions must be mentally exhausting, unsurprising he can barely string a sentence together.

13 ( +13 / -0 )

Easy way not to get caught in a perjury trap: Don't commit perjury.

"So if I say something and he (Comey) says something, and it's my word against his, and he's best friends with Mueller, so Mueller might say: 'Well, I believe Comey,' and even if I'm telling the truth, that makes me a liar. That's no good."

Good example of projection from Trump. He decides who is right or wrong entirely by who has a relationship that reflect back to himself, and he is so small-minded that he cannot conceive that anyone else in the world would not think in exactly the same way. It would never occur to him that officers in pursuit of justice bring cases based on evidence, so he just assumes it will all come down to personal allegiances.

Take note of any supporters who buy into his argument, because that tells you they project in the same way.

trump is clearly in dire need of a check up, he is  "talking" like someone who is down to well less than half a deck, NO WAY he is only a few cards short.

This blurb alone should be enough to have him removed from office based on lack of mental capacity, he is clearly has medical needs, he should be no where near the White House,  the damage he does daily is very real, scary as hell in my opinion!

"In an interview with Reuters, Trump echoed the concerns of his top lawyer in the probe, Rudy Giuliani, who has warned that any sit-down with Mueller could be a “perjury trap.”

Calling questions from Mueller a "perjury trap" is like calling an intelligence test a "stupidity trap."

11 ( +11 / -0 )

Mueller has already said he won’t be bringing charges against Trump as he doesn’t think it can/should be done against a sitting president. He’s just handing his information to Congress and that will be that. So I’m not sure where he thinks the perjury fantasy will take place.

At the end of the day, Trump can make up any reason he wants. But everyone knows there’s no way in hell he’s going to sit with Mueller. Trump would have to explain numerous contradictions and there are just too many to sort through and then choose one final answer.

Hillary answered questions during her numerous investigations. Trump won’t.

Ask Scooter Libby. When these guys get hungry for blood, they won't rest until they take somebody down. All you have to do is mis-remember a minor event from several years previous, and you can be facing perjury charges and several years in prison. It's Kafkaesque, but that's political life in the "land of the free" these days.

-12 ( +0 / -12 )

Ask Scooter Libby.

Yes, it's not good to out a spy. Maybe you shouldn't do that.

When these guys get hungry for blood

Then what happened with President Hillary's arrest for her crimes?

"land of the free"

Nice pun. Health insurance costs have really skyrocketed. Nothing "free" about that. Best to stay in Japan.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

All you have to do is mis-remember a minor event from several years previous, and you can be facing perjury charges and several years in prison

Nonsense. Not only did he make false statements, he did so intentionally. And that was proven in a court of law.

Let's just have a look at the justice department guidelines:

https://www.justice.gov/usam/criminal-resource-manual-1747-elements-perjury-specific-intent

The third element of a perjury offense is proof of specific intent, that is, that the defendant made the false statement with knowledge of its falsity, rather than as a result of confusion,

Why would Donny lie? What would a virtuous man like Donald have to lie about?

All you have to do is mis-remember a minor event from several years previous, and you can be facing perjury charges and several years in prison.

Purjury does not work that way. If you do not remember all you have to say is " I do not recall" in which case the prosecutor will need to produce evidence to sustain his/her question to go further. If they do not have any collaborating evidence to fortify their claim then they can not push further since it will be the defendants words against the prosecutor in which case the judge will simply demand to strike the question out to the jurors.

The problem for Trump is he does not know what Mueller has for evidence so he cannot simply deny nor discount as I do not recall in which it may bite back with Mueller coming out with collaborating evidence which will place him in the corner.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Panic in the Whitehouse... this whole thing is a farce. He's in danger of finally being found out to be a fake president and he's terrified.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Takeda, that's the legal point: Intent. Related to my above point, I meet many single women, sometimes at their residence, sometimes at mine, sometimes at a third location - it's not the meeting that is the problem but the intent. For example, a bunch of Trumpies (including Junior) met wit a woman. Giuliani maintains that they knew neither who she was (despite having the name Natalia Veselnitskaya, which might be a tip-off, natioanlity-wise) nor the topic (Ha! - the email which led to the meeting reads as such:)

The Crown prosecutor of Russia met with his father Aras this morning and in their meeting offered to provide the Trump campaign with some official documents and information that would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia and would be very useful to your father.

This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump – helped along by Aras and Emin.

Hmm. Seems like, even if nothing came from the meeting, there was intent. And then the President lied about the intent in a letter.

Now, it may be that colluding with Russia in pursuit of political gain is not illegal. That will be for the Senate to decide.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

All you have to do is mis-remember a minor event

Like meeting with Russians? No perjury trap for Sessions, or Trump Jr., or Kushner, or...

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Only someone with something to hide fears a perjury trap.

Or someone with a motive is looking to make a perjury trap.

Mueller holds all the cards as the hysterical outbursts of tweets from screaming Cheeto intensify. This thing is about to explode, and implode.

That’s the problem, but as Giuliani constantly has been saying, if Mueller can prove that the so called investigation is fair and impartial then Giuliani says, he won’t let him sit down with Mueller.

Grab the popcorn....

And then the movie was a waste of time.

-11 ( +0 / -11 )

And then the President lied about the intent in a letter.

Sorry - should have written "then GOP front runner."

3 ( +3 / -0 )

saying, if Mueller can prove that the so called investigation is fair and impartial then Giuliani says, he won’t let him sit down with Mueller.

Your devotion to this chance that Trump will testify is adorable. We all had a chuckle back before "perjury trap" when you were saying Trump would sit down and talk to Mueller. Not only did I predict Trump would never testify, I predicted you would be leading the charge against it.

And here we are.

The good news is that HiLLARY now has a reason to never answer another question to investigators:. Perjury trap!

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Of course Trump worries about being full of sh*t because he is.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

The good news is that HiLLARY now has a reason to never answer another question to investigators:. Perjury trap!

Great! So like Giuliani said, there’s no need for Trump then to sit down with Mueller.

Of course Trump worries about being full of sh*t because he is.

He probably thinks the same about Mueller.

I think you have a different Counsel in mind.

He's not handing his information to Congress. He's required, after concluding the investigation, to submit a report (and that's a confidential report) to the person who appointed him, in this case, because of Sessions's Russia problem, the Deputy Attorney General.

He has to justify his existence for being there and there no way he can leave empty handed otherwise how does his department justify the millions that was spent? So regardless, he needs to find something and make a report, the other thing is, his reputation, if this goes south, it would essentially be the end of Mueller’s career in the worst way.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

wipeout, that's a point that hadn't occurred to me. Thank you.

This clearly gives Trump another avenue for obstruction: Simply order the AG to sit on the report.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Madverts: "Only someone with something to hide fears a perjury trap."

That's where you're wrong, Madverts. Those who say an innocent person doesn't have anything to worry about speaking to a prosecutor are nuts because it's the prosecutor, not the honest person, who decides whether you're being honest or not.

Trump should flip Mueller the bird.

"Mueller holds all the cards"

Hahahahahahahahahahaha!

Mueller/Ocasio-Cortez 2020 ( guaranteed landslide win for Trump-Pence )

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

If he were so innocent he'd be DOING HIS JOB and not jabbering this paranoia like he does every single day.

GWToday 08:38 pm JSTtrump is clearly in dire need of a check up, he is "talking" like someone who is down to well less than half a deck, NO WAY he is only a few cards short.

Yeah - the only card he's got left is the JOKER!

5 ( +5 / -0 )

"If he were so innocent he'd be DOING HIS JOB"

He IS doing his job, and he could be doing it even better if he didn't have to deal with all this aggravation.

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

If he were so innocent he'd be DOING HIS JOB and not jabbering this paranoia like he does every single day.

How do you know he’s not innocent? That’s right, you guys don’t. This is what i never get by liberals. You guys just want another GW that never put up a fight with the media and allowed himself to be a punching bag constantly by everyone including that idiot Keith Olbermann, The man does his job, multitasks and punches back and good on him.

-10 ( +0 / -10 )

The man does his job

Yeah. Let him go about doing his job. In his 18 months as president, he and his majority in Congress have managed to pass a single major bill - that which lowered taxes on the rich and is currently polling well underwater in popularity. (He's also signed a whole lot of executive orders. If you see a photo of Trump holding up a binder, that's an executive order. Which is rather ironic as Trump had always gotten on Obama's back about the use of executive orders - but then, Obama completed those when he faced a hostile congress, whereas Trump controls both houses. Why, one might wonder, can't they accomplish anything? Perhaps it's the man in the White House, using his "executive time" to watch whatever-and-friends an then angrily tweeting about it.)

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Of COURSE he's worried -- he's guilty as sin itself, and he's afraid he'll slip up and admit it again... this time on OFFICIAL record. He'd still deny saying it and the Trumpers would still have their heads so far up his butt they'd deny the neck vibrations, so I'm not sure why they're all crying. After all, "Truth isn't truth" according to those on his side.

bass4funk: "The man does his job, multitasks and punches back and good on him."

No, the man DOESN'T do his job, goes golfing ten times more than the man you constantly harped for doing the same before and after ACTUALLY working, he lies several times a day (and you defend them, even when it means going back on what you just defended), is a noted racist, misogynist, and is plain old senile to boot. Remember how much you have supported the man, bass, because like flipping on your "lunatic" remarks towards him before he won the Republican primary, you're not going to be able to live it down when you later start saying, "He was a mistake... I never defended him. I'm not a Republican. I'm not partisan," etc.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Only someone with something to hide fears a perjury trap.

Madverts - Not true. So Mr. Verts, Have you stopped beating your wife yet? Yes or no.

My lawyer says that talking to police is a bad idea, so don't do it without a lawyer present even if you aren't the suspect. Police and prosecutors have an agenda that isn't about finding the truth. It is about closing a case or embarrassing a politician. We all like to see politicians embarrassed, so that is good fun.

I'm not trying to suggest that he always tells the truth. The man is a known liar, though he would call it being a salesman. He does like hyperbole - "Greatest EVER!" But is he personally knowledgeable about these crimes?

Another famous President being questioned ...

"It depends upon what the meaning of the word is... is ..."

Ok, so he tells the truth and the whole truth, if Mueller doesn’t see it as the truth in his opinion then he can say, the President lied, so basically, Mueller will determine based on how he personally perceives what Trump says. That’s crazy. So if I go drinking with my homies and my thinks I was with another woman, it wouldn’t matter if I told the truth or not, it’s how she perceives the situation.

No, the man DOESN'T do his job

No, he does and surprisingly with all this nonsense swirling around him.

Oh, stop! What you said is true, but that doesn’t mean the cop holding the bad is an honest cop. First the left call out cops and demonize them and protest against them, calling them every name in the book and all of a sudden when it involves the President they hate, cops are the virtue of honesty and integrity? Give me a break!

But you do not seem to be innocent because you are in a frenzy about "witch hunts" and "hoaxes" ... my guess is you are guilty of crimes the likes of which the world has never seen.

Remember that Trump fans built the up the unsubstantiated claim that Mueller personally hates Trump. It allows them to discredit anything he does without a single shred of proof.

He wants to interview Trump? Oh, that means he's looking to frame him. How do they know? Because Mueller hates Trump. He is looking at Manafort? Oh, he's looking to build a case to flip on Trump. How do we know? Because Mueller hates Trump.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Interesting how Congress hasn't come to Trump's aid collectively on this matter. Perhaps this is the only card they have to keep Trump in control regarding the budget for building the wall, China tariff etc. . . . If Republicans loose Congress(very unlikely) or Senate to Democrats at midterm election, then they might not care what happens to Trump anymore. Mueller investigation could proceed with full force.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Remember that Trump fans built the up the unsubstantiated claim that Mueller personally hates Trump.

Exactly!

It allows them to discredit anything he does without a single shred of proof.

As the left also have zero proof of Trump being guilty of anything.

He wants to interview Trump? Oh, that means he's looking to frame him.

Pretty much. I wouldn’t be caught dead talking to anyone that has a team of Democrat lawyers and a few on that team that represented my former rival. No way.

How do they know? Because Mueller hates Trump. He is looking at Manafort? Oh, he's looking to build a case to flip on Trump. How do we know? Because Mueller hates Trump.

Yes.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Mueler is Republican. Trump approved him.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Enough with this "perjury trap" nonsense. This is yet another tactic by Trump's legal team and the right-wing media to prey upon the ignorance and fears of Trump supporters as well as attempt to muddy the waters related to Mueller's investigation.

Look up the actual legal definition of what the "perjury trap" defense is because it wouldn't apply in this case. First of all,  it is a strategy used by the defense to show that the prosecutors got a person to give false testimony while being under oath in front of a grand jury for reasons not related to their case, but simply to try to get the person to commit perjury about a matter that could be used later in a separate trial.

Therefore, (1) Trump is not going to be in front of a grand jury. He's going to be interviewed by the Special Counsel in a setting outside of a court of law. (2) Trump would not be under oath. A person who gets interviewed by investigators simply gets asked questions, and they can decline to answer them if they wish. Finally, (3) the questions would be relevant to the investigation since some of them would be related to matters that happened during Trump's campaign and the people who were associated with him at the time. Again, he can choose to decline to answer any of those questions if he wishes to invoke his Fifth Amendment rights.

Of course, you don't have to take my word for it, but you certainly shouldn't be listening to the spin doctors on Fox or other pundits who know very little about the law. You can read more about what a "perjury trap" is at the following links and then decide for yourself:

That bill lowered taxes on everyone...

Ha! Tell that to the 60% of Americans who know that is not true. And try to run on it for Congress in November. (Thinking about it, being the signature accomplishment of the first half of Trump's term, people have been mighty quiet about it.)

2 ( +2 / -0 )

That bill lowered taxes on everyone and to the bitter disappointment of liberals the economy is booming and Trump's black support had doubled.

@Serrano, I did notice a $40 increase in my paycheck. But right now at this very moment my pharmacy has been cutting my (and everyone elses) hours for those who are on an hourly wage.

So yeah, the magic only lasts so long unless the top executives start cutting back their own salaries and bonuses to save the company money. But instead they target the rank and file employees that have to worry about financial stability and living from paycheck to paycheck, whether they can pay their bills, and put food on their table. This has just happened to me AGAIN for the 10th time over the course of my LIFE!

Reality and fact outdoes your partisan bubble dreams. Me and other's have to live with such your foolish idealistic partisan visions and it's not going so well for too many Americans.

Trump is not doing his job, because he only sees making the rich richer, widening the inequality gap to keep allowing the wealthy to continually screw over the middle class and poor until their is nothing left for them to take money from but themselves.

I hope that Trump will be subpoenaed, because he can't hid from whatever he's trying to hid from his past/present actions. Come November, there will be no more partisanship obstruction on a federal level and the air can be cleared up from all the blatant smoke the majority of Trump's GOP has been blowing out of it's @$$.

Enough with this "perjury trap" nonsense. This is yet another tactic by Trump's legal team and the right-wing media to prey upon the ignorance and fears of Trump supporters as well as attempt to muddy the waters related to Mueller's investigation.

Mueller already done muddy the waters.

Look up the actual legal definition of what the "perjury trap" defense is because it wouldn't apply in this case.

Actually, it would.

Therefore, (1) Trump is not going to be in front of a grand jury. He's going to be interviewed by the Special Counsel in a setting outside of a court of law. (2) Trump would not be under oath. Yes, I watch FNC and yes, I do respect legal opinions of Gerrat, Napolitano, Dershowitz some of the most knowledgeable minds in legal history that’s why FNC pays them a fortune of a salary to hear their legal opinions.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

As the left also have zero proof of Trump being guilty of anything.

The "left" is not investigating this matter. The Special Counsel (a Republican) who is being overseen by another Republican at the Department of Justice is. If anyone has "zero proof" of anything here, it is you.

I wouldn’t be caught dead talking to anyone that has a team of Democrat lawyers and a few on that team that represented my former rival.

Another string of falsehoods that I have addressed before but you have decided to keep posting them whenever you get the chance. First of all, you have no evidence that the lawyers on Mueller's team are Democrats. Have you seen their political registration? Can you even name who they are and how you know that they are Democrats? Perhaps you would like to go with the old, "Oh, but they made campaign donations to Democratic candidates in the past, so there is the smoking gun." Well, by that logic, then Trump and his family are also Democrats since they've given money to Democrats in the past. Also, how come Trump's legal team isn't trying this as a part of their potential strategy on defending Trump and his administration against the current investigation?

The IG's report stated that there was no political bias in the current investigation. You can deny it all you want, but unless the IG decides to amend his report or you come up with some actual facts, you are simply repeating things which have already been debunked as being false.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Actually, it would.

Oh really, care to explain how? Use my example of how it wouldn't be if you need a guide as to how to formulate a logical response.

Yes, I watch FNC and yes, I do respect legal opinions of Gerrat, Napolitano, Dershowitz some of the most knowledgeable minds in legal history that’s why FNC pays them a fortune of a salary to hear their legal opinions.

FNC pays them because they will say what Fox listeners want to hear. There are other legal opinions out there which counter their legal opinions.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

The "left" is not investigating this matter. The Special Counsel (a Republican) who is being overseen by another Republican at the Department of Justice is. If anyone has "zero proof" of anything here, it is you.

No, it has everything to do with the left and the fact the Mueller is a lap dog for the Democrats isn’t at all surprising. Still thought he was a piece of....when he got Martha Stewart. What a creep!

First of all, you have no evidence that the lawyers on Mueller's team are Democrats.

Yeah, I do.

James Quarles: Donated almost $33,000 to Democrats, including Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. He has also donated about $2,750 to Republicans — the only lawyer on Mueller's team to have done so.

Jeannie Rhee: Donated more than $16,000 since 2008 to Democrats, including the maximum donation possible to Clinton in both 2015 and 2016. Rhee has also donated to Obama.

Andrew Weissmann: Donated more than $4,000 to Obama in 2008 and $2,000 to the DNC in 2006.

Elizabeth Prelogar: Donated $250 each to Clinton in 2016 and Obama in 2012.

A total and utter politically motivated and calculated witch hunt.

Oh really, care to explain how?

I did, please scroll up.

FNC pays them because they will say what Fox listeners want to hear. There are other legal opinions out there which counter their legal opinions.

No, if that were the case, they would be on Phil Griffin’s network like Joe.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

Dmacloed: Enough with this "perjury trap" nonsense

I'm not sure you get it. I mean your links and evidence are all nice and pretty, but Trump fans have been told to respond with "perjury trap" and that's that. What's the point at looking at evidence to the contrary?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

@Bass--seriously, do you call what you posted "evidence" that these lawyers are Democrats? Donating money to political causes does not make a person a member of that party. Remember, Trump and his family have also donated to Democrats. By your logic, they are Democrats, too. Why do you continue to ignore this point? Why haven't you addressed it?

I did, please scroll up.

No, you did not. Nowhere did you mention how the current misuse of the "perjury trap" would apply. So, let's try this again: Take my three points (one at a time if you like) and refute them with facts. No rhetoric--just facts--ones that come from a legal source.

No, if that were the case, they would be on Phil Griffin’s network like Joe.

No, the people who have different opinions than the paid experts on Fox are people who do things like teach law at universities or are people who study the law and back up their opinions with past cases and other credible sources which are not affiliated with any news network.

A total and utter politically motivated and calculated witch hunt.

This has shown to be false according to the IG Report (another thing you like to ignore). The IG found no bias or wrongdoing on the investigators' part. However, keep repeating what the president says if it makes you feel better. Meanwhile, the investigation will go on.

Or he can just give Mueller the finger.

Yes, because that is how a mature person would act, especially a president. Remember the last president who gave the Special Counsel "the finger" when he was asked to cooperate? That Special Counsel then took it to the Supreme Court, and the Supreme Court took that middle finger and told that president to give himself his own prostate exam. How'd that work out for Nixon again?

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Bass: No, it has everything to do with the left and the fact the Mueller is a lap dog for the Democrats

Then you'd think Rosenstein would replace him...unless Rosenstein is in on it. You yourself said Rosenstein doesn't need to be replaced so your claims of bias can't be all that credible.

Thank you for making that point. Hillary is still free - because she is not a Republican. Republicans talk a good game, but it's the Democrats who really love to lock up their political enemies.

The man is not a racist.

The amount of evidence that has been presented to back up his years of racism is well-documented. It's been posted here again and again and again. Whether its birtherism, or hating black guys counting his money, or racist ads he financed (against native casinos) mocking the parents of a dead soldier etc etc.

I wonder, what it actually takes for uber-Trump supporters to see the light?
