Adulting reasonable response

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Imagine, if you would, that instead of Trump having to admit that Iran was COMPLETELY in compliance and had to take the US out of the JCPOA to impose sanctions, Iran had done (or failed to do) something that in fact violated the agreement, and the US imposed sanctions in response.

Do you think that the media you read would be talking about the US 'reducing compliance'?

Do you think that the media you read would be making it seem reasonable for Iran to demand that the sanctions be lifted in their entirety and the US agree to negotiations that were aimed at it giving Iran the 'most favoured nation' status in its trade with the US and EU?

Or do you think that the media you read would be making it very clear that Iran was the only party not respecting the treaty, and that, as the only party not respecting the treaty, it was entirely Iran's responsibility to move into full compliance, and any demands it was making for the US to lift the sanctions first were completely unreasonable, and the demand for further concessions bordering on insanity?

The thing is that the treaty is just as clear that Iran could return to the General Safeguards of the NNPT if the US or the EU3 failed to live up to their obligations under the JCPOA as it is that the US could return to sanctioning Iran if it failed to do so instead, and at no point, even before Trump officially withdrew, were the US and EU3 in total compliance.
